Today I prepared for, dressed myself up (lagged myself really), wore my disposable gloves and set out for a big shop. I make a comprehensive list the day before and don't sleep well as I dread the scary shopping situation so much but needs must.
It all went well in the shop and I found everything on my very long list including an Easter egg for DH, his special nuts, chocolate and tonic water for him.
I staggered home with 5 huge bags of stuff. What did DH say? 'Oh well, we'll we'll just have to make do with what you've got.'
Things are a bit quiet in our house this afternoon.
Eat his egg. Crush his nuts.
Does your son has mental/physical health issues? If not, tell him to either take it or leave it. He'll not let himself starve.
I'd certainly be the one eating the chocolate !
"Special nuts" they'd be off the shopping list for the future too!
Vampirequeen. No my son is not ill or disabled. He is working at home and his wife has been furloughed. He did offer to pop out but she likes to drop in and see her elderly parents and gets me little bits if I need them. He is learning that he cannot be so fussy as are her parents.
Stereotyping men again!! Even when they do shop it's never good enough for women.
Just to let you know, my Dad has ALWAYS shopped, cleaned up, done the ironing, cleaned pots, done the garden, the washing, cleaned the car DIY etc. even though my Mum tries to beat him too it.
Now my brother is their carer and he too is following in my Dad's footsteps, doing everything. He bakes some really good cakes but he has to put a hold on that as they are all putting on weight during this crisis.
Is it men over a certain age that tend to expect their partner to do "household" chores?
My husband just can't get his head around our shopping arrangements.
Our daughter forbids me to go out , OH can't anyway, so she does all our shopping.
OH will suddenly annouce---I need my coffee filter papers, I need more marmite (neither of which I use so have nothing to do with) and seems bemused that it doesn't suddenly appear.
He is fully aware of the current restrictions, it just seems that as he rarely goes out anyway then he sees his life as more or less normal
Just before the restrictions began (and when toilet paper was becoming scarce) I struggled home with a large pack plus heavy shopping trolley (no car these days). Next day no TP anywhere. DH said he wasn't keen on the TP I'd bought, could I get Andrex or one of the other makes we sometimes buy. Felt like finding some Izal for him (or sheets of newspaper)
MrGuder.. one in a million I would suggest
gosh y`all, well mostly all, gave me a huge laugh through my tears (lonely) this morning
I love it when I come here and you make me smile! thank you
We have had 'a little chat'. He's assured me that he's very appreciative of the catering arrangements and is now hoovering. Thats going a bit better since I told him to empty the blessed thing. Every day's a school day in lockdown it would seem.
Quite apart from the ingratitude of 'him indoors', please don't get too stressed about shopping. Honestly, the basic precautions of proper frequent hand-washing and 2 metres distancing will make a massive difference to your chance of catching the virus. It's the same with seasonal flu, which has pretty much the same results. As for the DH, I would be telling him his 'special nuts' and Easter eggs are quarantined until further notice!
Was your DH trying to make a joke/sarcastic remark? It's a bit hard to explain in writing as you don't get the tone.
Maybe, as you had so many bags or more bags than normal, he thought he'd make what he thought was a witty remark.
Send him with the list. How damn ungrateful.
Oh and gloves pick up covid 19 the same as your hands. They are of no use
For Easter Sunday I rooted from the freezer a turkey crown that I bought in the post Christmas sales. It’s large, we’ve been eating it for three days and there’s still loads left. DH is delighted, he never complains about the food that’s put in front of him and he loves turkey ?
Jane you could suggest he does an online shop instead of you having to venture out.
I'm sure he will enjoy getting up in the middle of the night to get a slot, and you can share his frustration when it turns out that the single pack of six bottles of beer which he has ordered has been intepreted by the supermaket's website as a single bottle of beer.
Or when the small bag of carrots that he thinks he's ordered is in fact a whole kilogram of carrots, and he can then amuse himself making carrot soup and carrot cake
Happy days
thought it applied to every outraged person (self included)
They look like"the seven old ladies who were locked in the lavatory from Monday to Saturday!"
Note that no men were "outraged" during the making of this chorale!
I was listening to my favourite talk radio host on LBC. People were invited to message in about how lockdown was going. A man had said that he would be seeking a divorce when this is all over. He is expected to do all the cooking, cleaning and meals as he is furloughed and his wife is working from home. They are sleeping in separate rooms.
I think the wife will be well rid of such a spoilt, selfish man, many women have to work and run a home as well.
Note: my DH's comment was quite spontaneous and made without any humorous intent.
I’m curious to know what’s special about his nuts.....?
Goodness Jane10, my DH simply wouldn't have dared to make that sort of comment!! IF he had, he would have been told in no uncertain way that in future he would be doing the shopping and to come back with all the things I insist on!! We are going first thing in the morning, 7.30-8.30. One of us stays in the car whilst the other queues and shops. When we get home, we have breakfast, then we both unpack and put away! What we can't get, we go without. Seems too be working ok!
I think that last comment of JANE10's says it all really.. it's expected that you will think of everything. Wouldn't it be a change to just sit back and let someone else worry where the next shop is coming from.
Jane 10 know how you feel got back from Tesco after queuing for an hour to get in but we are all in the same boat and my husband told me quite seriously that he has cleaned MY bathroom and washed MY floor ( don’t know what loo he uses and what floors he walks on ?)
Also his a bit disappointed because Tesco doesn’t have the custard tarts he likes !!!
I would have struggled home with my own Large Easter Egg,
Special Pistacio Nuts, and Pink Lemonade which I am partial too. Plenty of nice treats for the dogs.
I would have told DH "Oh well you will just have to make do with this nice bar of Kit Kat that was all they had left"
I have laughed at this thread! Thank you everyone. I was going to suggest grating his nuts.
I wonder if the reason it’s quiet this afternoon is because your DH is trying to prise his “special nuts” down from his nostrils??? ?
Note: my DH's comment was quite spontaneous and made without any humorous intent
I was wondering whether his comment(s) might be even more spontaneous when you have him castrated; but on second thoughts please don't, otherwise I'll miss all the wisecracks about cracking nuts!
