HORSE POO

I have noticed since we are doing quite a lot of walking daily that there seems to be a lot of horse poo lying on roads and on pavements. Now I know that they have to poo but honestly in the middle of the street, at the end of a driveway leading to your home, I don't think it is fair. In our street last week there was a huge amount left in the middle of the road but also at the end of two driveways leading into neighbours' driveways. I don't think this is acceptable. Now I know unlike the dog walkers that they cannot get off the horse and pick it up and bin it but I would like to know why they should get away with this behaviour when it is 1. no different from dog's poo lying about and 2. why should we have to put up with it esp when we know which farm the horse come from. Rant over!

You've got more chance of having an accident in the home or on the roads driving or walking, than riding a horse.

I have never found the smell of horse or cow manure unpleasant, it’s only digested grass after all. Go get it and chuck it on your garden or in your compost. It’s awesome stuff

It isn't a 'rule' about not riding out, just a recommendation from the BHS asking us to be considerate over the possible use of ambulances.
People are also being asked not to go fell walking for the same reason.

Horses should be galloping in fields, not trotting along public roads unless their owners have road tax and liability insurance. The same goes for cyclists (but not the fields bit).

I've managed several scenarios, off a horse, in the home, outside ....

Oh dear , some people have to complain about strange things!
If you can work out how to stop a horse from going when it needs to, you'd get a medal. Could be worse - have you seen how much they wee?
At least with horse poo you can usually see it and take evasive action unlike dogs that sticks like superglue to whatever it touches.
I noticed that a few of the police forces are using their horses to monitor people out and about.

I prefer the smell of manure to that of fast food takeaways and petrol fumes. One of the reasons we moved out of town. Also the takeaway cartons and general litter left around on the streets.

I have thought long and hard about responding to this and will probably get my head bitten off.

However, GN is for all and if someone wants to complain about something, which has annoyed or upset, fair enough. We all have different opinions, and may respond to a situation in a totally different way, but we hopefully can respect them, without being unkind or ridiculing a poster. sad

Posting on social media, leaves us wide open to comments and there may be robust replies, stating differing opinions, which we may not like. However, please bear in mind, the OP is sitting reading responses.

I just want to say that I have found out the OP, a very gentle and sensitive lady has decided not to post again. She is very upset at some of the unkind comments.

Just remember, many of us are struggling just now and GN is a lifeline to some. Not all of us are robust and able to take it on the chin, it's all about perception. sad
It costs nothing to think, before we post.

To sum it up, it is not a wind up, as some think and we won't be hearing from the OP again.

confused [ confused]

Marydoll Fri 17-Apr-20 12:39:59

To those who sent the nasty PMs, I'm disgusted!

merlotgran Fri 17-Apr-20 12:59:21

Crumbs! I thought this thread was tongue in cheek and light hearted.

Am I on the wrong planet? confused

MaizieD Fri 17-Apr-20 13:04:14

I didn't think it was either of those particularly, merlotgran but there's nothing in it to justify sending unpleasant PMs to Marydoll. That is just vile.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-Apr-20 13:38:14

Blimey Marydoll nasty PM's what on earth is wrong with some people???

merlotgran Fri 17-Apr-20 13:39:25

I had no idea anyone was receiving nasty PMs.

Marydoll Fri 17-Apr-20 13:51:11

I didn't get the PMs. It was the OP, who was targetted.
?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 17-Apr-20 13:55:06

Marydoll the senders of the nasty PM’s should be named and shamed

MaizieD Fri 17-Apr-20 13:55:23

I hope it wasn't anyone who contributed to this thread, Marydoll?

MaizieD Fri 17-Apr-20 13:56:26

I thought that too, GG13, but I don't know if it's allowable under the T& C

Marydoll Fri 17-Apr-20 14:02:41

I really shouldn't have said anything, but I'm so angry and upset for the OP. She is such a lovely person. She will probably be annoyed at me, but I had to call it out.
I hope GNHQ deal with the nasty, cowards, sitting behind the anonymity of their user names.

Iam64 Fri 17-Apr-20 14:03:21

if it isn't allowed to name and shame here, GNhq should be informed and chuck the offenders out

Callistemon Fri 17-Apr-20 14:05:36

Oh dear, that is horrible.
Why would anyone do that?

I do hope the jokey posts about nappies for horses etc didn't upset you, Brunette, they were meant in good part.

GabriellaG54 Fri 17-Apr-20 14:14:38

Goodness me! It's only a thread about horse manure. How on earth could anyone take umbridge or be upset at posts about that?
As for PMs. I agree that GNHQ should be able to read them...in certain cases.

GabriellaG54 Fri 17-Apr-20 14:21:59

I do agree, in part quizqueen but in order to get to fields or common land, they often have to be ridden along roads from their stables.
It might not be cost effective to make all horse owners to pay a road tax as not all horses use roads. Police would have a hard job telling one horse from another.
Many horse owners do have some sort of insurance.

Jabberwok Fri 17-Apr-20 15:12:40

How can anyone be bothered to send a nasty pm about horse poo? I honestly thought the OP was a hoax ( it's been known on GN) as it seemed such an odd thing to get upset about and the OP made no further comment about it (which has also been known on GN) which seemed a bit odd. Obviously I was wrong and I'm sorry if the OP is upset. GN can be a feisty place particularly on certain threads!!!
