Can I ask what were your immediate thoughts when you saw your husband/wife or partner for the very first time?

smile

MerylStreep Fri 24-Apr-20 22:12:16

MissAdventure
I'd better not put my story up as the perpetually outraged would have a touch of the vapours ?

Luckygirl Fri 24-Apr-20 22:23:45

I didn't think all that much as I did not have my glasses on at the time!!

MissAdventure Fri 24-Apr-20 22:30:40

Oh, I'm disappointed, MerylStreep.
Is it a saucy story then?

MerylStreep Fri 24-Apr-20 22:35:13

MissAdventure
Extremely!! And complicated.

MissAdventure Fri 24-Apr-20 22:58:07

Phwoar! wink

Nandalot Fri 24-Apr-20 23:13:47

Like you Luckygirl, I wasn’t wearing my glasses, but my friend said he was all right. That was 54 years ago.

LullyDully Sat 25-Apr-20 08:18:38

I just thought I had always known him.

Puzzler61 Sat 25-Apr-20 08:24:50

We met at work. I was sitting in the Canteen, eating salad when he walked by me. That thunderbolt moment happened - that they talk about in books - when I looked at him. My hand
shook, and my lettuce fell off my fork! True!
We’ve been together for 44 years.

Txquiltz Sat 25-Apr-20 08:31:26

He looked like an older cousin's twin. I liked that cousin and was interested in meeting his doppelgänger. We married 6 mos. later and have been together 53 years.

NannyJan53 Sat 25-Apr-20 08:35:02

What a happy, smiley, friendly face. Have been inseparable since that day on 5th May 2012

BlueSky Sat 25-Apr-20 08:44:13

Which one? No 1 striking good looks a young Terence Stamp look alike. No 2 no striking looks but everything No 1 wasn't!

DanniRae Sat 25-Apr-20 08:44:17

I was 19 and he was 23 - so I thought he was really grown up and wouldn't be interested in me. But he was!

harrigran Sat 25-Apr-20 08:47:05

Thank goodness we are not going to get lost.
DH was roped in as navigator on a car rally, my friend usually tried to do it but she was a rubbish map reader.
That was July 1st 1963 and we have been together ever since.

Maggiemaybe Sat 25-Apr-20 08:53:55

Yes, I had that thunderbolt moment too. He obviously didn’t, and I’d to chase him for a few weeks till I let him catch me. wink

We’ve been together nearly 48 years.

Greyduster Sat 25-Apr-20 08:59:55

Not a snappy dresser, then? Cavalry twill trousers, a Harris Tweed jacket and a dark blue sweater. We were on a blind date. When we got to know each other better, I took him shopping! Fifty three years later, I’m still in charge of his wardrobe!

ninathenana Sat 25-Apr-20 09:03:21

He's fit !

Not in the modern sense but actually physically fit. He played rugby every week and was sitting by the pool in his trunks.

ninathenana Sat 25-Apr-20 09:09:34

Greyduster ?? himself turned up to meet me for our first date waring a brown corduroy jacket with leather patch elbows shock he soon ditched that and like you I've been his wardrobe mistress ever since.

SalsaQueen Sat 25-Apr-20 09:31:33

I loved his long, thick, wavy hair. He was 19 then. He's now 62, has short, greying wavy hair and no bald patch

Witzend Sat 25-Apr-20 09:35:11

First thought was that I preferred the look of him to the friend he was with, who fancied himself rotten and had come to chat up me and a friend at lunchtime in a student canteen.

fiorentina51 Sat 25-Apr-20 09:38:27

He was a prefect at school, I was 12 years old. He chased me down the corridor and grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and threw me out into the playground, where I was supposed to be at lunchtime rather than indoors playing cat and mouse with the prefects.
It was mutual dislike at first sight.
We married 10 years later and will celebrate 47 years of marriage this year.

DanniRae Sat 25-Apr-20 11:37:48

Great thread - Thank you MissAdventure grin

Do tell MerylStreep! - I would love to hear your story grin

dontmindstayinghome Sat 25-Apr-20 11:48:44

Disappointment.
(I fancied his best mate who wasn't interested in me)!

He was determined from the outset that I was the one for him - we've been married now for over 40 years so his persistence paid off.

I made the right choice though - I would never have had a lasting relationship with his best mate!

sodapop Sat 25-Apr-20 12:39:35

Completely unlike the type of man who normally would interest me. He is not handsome, had no hair but was a great conversationalist.. We have been married 15 years and he is the kindest most tolerant man you could wish to meet. Looks are not everything.

gillyknits Sat 25-Apr-20 12:43:25

He was the new boy at school and I thought he was very handsome. He didn’t notice me until four years later, in the sixth form , and we finally went on a date. Been together 50 years this year!

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-Apr-20 19:31:29

My OH...a playboy.
3 piece bespoke suit, big smile, background looked ritzy ??

My ex...fully leathered on his HD, nice ordinary features when he took his helmet off, lovely accent, clean shaven and not too tall. All good ??
