IF ...... you could have a day out next weekend where would you go?
I watched a TV prog about Portmeirion last night, and it’s top of my list for a visit when we’re released from Lockdown. It was made during beautiful weather and it looked idyllic. Very quirky. Many of you will remember “The Prisoner” filmed there many decades ago - it’s one that sticks in your mind.

We live on the South Coast and often get the ferry over to the Isle of wight for the day or weekend as we have a couple of restaurants over there we love and its a faf to get back in time for the last ferry home, we were planning to do this before lockdown so right now I guess I will have to make do with a trip into the garden followed by a few hours visiting conservatory for some sewing therapy and on the way home stopping off in the breakfast room for a coffee!

An empty beach...? I don’t need to be near people but I do need to be by the sea. I live 10 mins drive away but haven’t gone there during lockdown.

I would go to the Yorkshire Dales and see the beautiful villages and hills, stopping at Grassington and Kettlewell for a break.

This country has so many beautiful places to visit. When the weather is warm and sunny there really is nowhere better. So for me anywhere with a beach would be a dream, just to feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes. Bliss.

Anywhere. Seaside preferably.

I've always wanted to go to Portmeirion but never managed it. Too late now. And too far from Devon for a day out.
So, I would simply drive to my old home town, Torquay, and stroll along the sea-front, throw stones in the sea from the beach, buy fish and chips, and generally behave like a tourist even though I lived there for 50 years. I miss the sea.

Ahh happy memories for you HillyN and hopefully you can go back in the not-too-distant future and make more lovely memories. We had many holidays at Weymouth Bay when our daughters were young and they fondly remember the sand sculptures on the beach. ?⛺️

My day out would be a full tour of Cheshire. When friend and I took our coach trips we'd either stop or change coaches at Sandbach to continue our trips but on travelling through Cheshire there were some beautiful areas where we'd promised ourselves we'd visit/stay but never got around to it. I do so love the countryside.

I'd then visit one or two charity shops in Alderley Edge and Wilmslow( if they have them grin) Maybe D and I will visit sometime, it's not a million miles away.

There aren't many other places that I haven't seen in this country. Portmeirion I loved and I told D to take the children there later on if it's permissible. I bought a teapot from the crockery shop there or nearby.

Would saddle up the camels and go trekking across the open sand. Can think of nowhere else I would rather be. x

I would love a day out at the seaside, one of the Linclonshire resorts,or perhaps Whitby, fish and chips and a walk on the seafront, nice sea air, lovely.

Northerngirl28 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:33:56

Saltburn beach, walk along the pier, fish and chips for lunch...... one day soon....sigh......

brawlass Wed 29-Apr-20 11:33:21

To our favourite quiet beach on the Galloway coast,
then stop for fish &chips on the way home!

It has to be Rye. At any time of the year. Un poco turistico as Lucia would say, but only because there's so much to admire. Obviously Rye harbour included in a visit to enjoy the wide wide sea and sky.

Hebdenali Wed 29-Apr-20 11:29:01

I live in Hebden Bridge and it is indeed a lovely place.

Bluegrass Wed 29-Apr-20 11:24:23

Beechnut, I'm with you on this one!

Craftycat Wed 29-Apr-20 11:24:03

I liked Portmerion but agree it was a bit busy.
I would like a day out on my favourite beach on Rhodes. No chance of getting there this year. Next year hopefully!
Luckily as weather has been great I do have a super tan already!!

HillyN Wed 29-Apr-20 11:22:46

Not next weekend but in June on the 50th anniversary of when my husband first asked me out, I'd like to go to Weymouth. We had booked a weekend away in a hotel there to mark the occasion, as that is where we went with a friends for the day and 'linked up' for the first time. Unlikely to happen now sadly.
This picture was taken that day in 1970 in front of Portland Bill lighthouse, I'm the girl on the right.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:13:38

Last week we should have been in Llandudno, which we love, we have rebooked for October hoping we will be able to go then. We have friends there and a visit to Bodnant Gardens would be must, and a trip up the Great Orme, so much to do and see, even the town itself. Fingers crossed we will be able to go in October.

Tangerine Wed 29-Apr-20 11:12:46

Somewhere on the coast. I love the sea and, if the weather was suitable, I'd have a swim.

Rosalyn69 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:12:27

Cheltenham. We go twice a year. Love the town and the shops and everything about it. Top of my list.

SillyNanny321 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:10:52

I would go grab my family & go to Wroxham, hire a day boat & just wander the Broads for a day. It is one of my favourite places & have had many happy holidays on the Broads over the years.

GabriellaG54 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:06:38

York. Love that City. Meet daughter and trawl the intriguing independent shops in the alleyways plus all the green spaces.
I would need at least the whole weekend and then some. ??

Polly4t42 Wed 29-Apr-20 11:06:17

I’d take my 3 yr old grandson and his 7 month old sister to the seaside to build sandcastles and paddle in the sea.

minxie Wed 29-Apr-20 11:06:02

We went a couple of years ago for my partners 50th. It was September so nice and quiet
We stayed in the domed house and it was lovely. Food was excellent and we also went on a train journey and popped into Caernarfon which is my parents home town. I looked at going for New Year’s Eve but it was extortionate sadly

4allweknow Wed 29-Apr-20 11:01:08

Loved it many many years ago. Like all interesting places nowadays would probably be mobbed. If I did manage another visit it would definitely have to be off season.
