IF ...... you could have a day out next weekend where would you go?
I watched a TV prog about Portmeirion last night, and it’s top of my list for a visit when we’re released from Lockdown. It was made during beautiful weather and it looked idyllic. Very quirky. Many of you will remember “The Prisoner” filmed there many decades ago - it’s one that sticks in your mind.

The thing is GrannySomerset that the pictures in your mind never match the reality when you revisit a much loved place which holds treasured memories.
I visited a place in North Wales to remind myself of the wonderful times I spent there many years earlier. It was unrecognisable and that made me quite sad.

I would go back to Highgrove House, the home of Prince Charles. It is my birthday this Saturday, my daughter's birthday is tomorrow, and she had booked another visit for a joint treat. Sadly, of course, it has been cancelled, so it will be our first port of call if possible when we are let loose again!

Instead of a day out, a day in with family!

We are still restricted to isolating with family, but I still work so am out of the house daily. We can still walk about, so go out for my walk daily.

I feel most badly for my MIL who is 90 and living in an assisted living unit. We have visited out on the patio (with plenty of space between us), but she is feeling sick of looking at the same walls and people.

So I would take her out for a nice long drive then out for lunch and perhaps sit in our back garden for a glass of wine.

I would like to go to my local country pub and sit in their garden with a Pimms.

Sodapop, you will remember when there was a quirky little garden/plant shop at Snape Maltings, I'm sure, and a kitchen shop that made me want to spend a fortune on gadgets that I wasn't quite sure what they did but I just knew I had to have them! Also the cafe did brilliant cream teas ...

And Aldeburgh, what a great place for a wedding reception. Lovely memories indeed.

Definitely Monet's Garden. Always meant to visit there, and DH and I keep saying we will - soon.

Aepgirl you’ve made me feel wistful. I always look forward to downing many glasses (jugs?) of Pimms during French Open, Queens and Wimbledon tennis tournaments. Well it’s tradition isn’t it? Sadly won’t be happening this summer. But I’ll just buy a crate of Pimms and strawberries from my fruit shop. It will make me happier in this awful, odd year.

BTW I’m not rich - I don’t go to all those tennis tournaments, I watch from an armchair!

I'd like to go to an Antiques Emporium for a good rummage around and then have a nice pub lunch followed by a short walk in the woods. Bliss!

Yes I remember all that gulligranny In fact we bought quite a few things from the kitchen shop to bring over here to France. I have some nice antique linens I bought there as well.
Also remember the wonderful Christmas shows at Thursford.

granny23 -I live in a flat on the promenade at Portobello. Not a bad place to be in lockdown! I love it here, even when it's a bit dreich like today. There's lots of activity here all the year round in normal times, but of course it's much quieter at the moment and the centre of Edinburgh seems so far away!. The police patrol on foot/horses/motorbikes to keep everyone in order and on the whole they succeed. I'll be going out later for a paddle in my wellies!

How lucky, Cathieb. Portobello is on my list for visiting, when I get out of detention! ?
