Good Morning Everyone,
Its a dull start here in Brackley signs of overnight rain, but its dry.
Today under normal circumstances being May Day, the local Morris Men and other groups would meet on the Town Hall Piazza from 0530 onwards .
But this will not happen today.
Tomorrow sees myself getting older at 72, but hopefully and cards will come today as no post tomorrow.
Take Care,
Mick

ElanVannin what happy memories you have evoked! I too flew to the Far East in '67, stopping at Bombay and Ceylon en route. Bombay I remember by the heat - when they opened the aircraft doors you had to fight your way through an invisible barrier! Ceylon I remember because of the children standing behind the perimeter fence, the girls wearing the most beautiful coloured saris. In both places the airport buildings were little more than corrugated iron huts! Happy memories - I was on my way to marry my husband in Singapore!

Hi everyone, I haven't posted for a while, been busy with work and looking have DH. I know what you mean about birthdays Gillybob it was my DGGD 2nd birthday on Monday, and we had to make do with facetiming her xxx It was my DH birthday on Saturday and my DD managed to get someone to come and sing to him, it made his day, and helped lift his spirits, most of the street were in their gardens singing along and dancing. DH is a bit down at the minute, not getting out and not sleeping well, our neighbour has decided to gut her house, so the noise is constant. I am stressed at work trying to claims our employers wages bag for clients, HMRC never make anything easy!!! Dread going in to work at the minute, but needs must, at least its only half a day, but trying to do a days work in half a day isn't easy. Hope everyone else keeps well and safe xx

Feelingmyage55 Fri 01-May-20 13:03:09

kalu thank you. Have watched Val McDermid in interviews and also on the Christmas University Challenge. I would love to meet and chat to her. (I feel a thread coming on).

Urmstongran Fri 01-May-20 12:56:24

EV ??

EllanVannin Fri 01-May-20 12:51:04

Urmston, I watched and also enjoyed the Marigold Hotel. India is such a fascinating place, my closest brush with the place was, as it was known then, Bombay ( Mumbai ) airport on my way to the far East, then Aus----a 36hr journey in those days.
Barbara Dickson I've always liked and still love her duet with Elaine Paige. As duets go, there's nothing to beat it.

If I was younger I'd definitely have a holiday in India.grin Such pretty people and I love their films.

And a very happy birthday tomorrow to Mick. I hope lots of cards came today. And remember those that don't come today will arrive on Monday - so happy birthday on Monday too! ?

Good morning everyone from a chilly cloudy Angus coast. Lovely to hear that Dexter has come through his op and is improving. But Grannysyb so sorry to hear about your fall and the broken wrist. I am full of admiration at you bouncing back to go shopping. Do take care! Urmstongran your joy at the prospect of freedom tomorrow is almost palpable. How lovely, after so long. I had a really 'down' day yesterday. I am, I thought anyway, a bit of a loner, so was shocked to feel so lonely. I'm used to teaching my tai chi classes and knowing that what I did was helping so many people but now I can think of no way to help in this awful situation. Except of course to stay locked away, which feels equally negative. The thing that got to me yesterday was imagining lockdown going on til my 80th next year and then being told that now everyone was free except the over eighties!
How silly, but that really got to me.
However a jokey exchange with my two DSs on family WhatsApp made me laugh today so I'm back on track again. Also a more serious 'chat' with DD. After being widowed four years ago, with a 10 and 12 year old, she has now met a lovely man. Lockdown has kept them apart, but she says that lockdown all together (he is also widowed with three sons) would have been too much too soon. So glad she feels like that, and of course social media is there and such a blessing for them. So onwards, upwards and positive. ? Qué Serra, Serra? is going to be my mantra. Does anyone else remember that from the 50s? Have a good day everyone, and love and ? to those with worries, pain and illness. ?

Urmstongran Fri 01-May-20 11:37:33

you have been such a brave (and mostly smiling) foreign correspondent girlie in your little cell

that was lovely of you Grandmafrench (or is it France? I can’t check now, blast!) and made me laugh. I very much enjoy hearing about your French lifestyle. Interesting what you say about the ‘bridge’ holidays, tagging an extra day onto a long weekend. The unions are very strong and well supported aren’t they over there? As you say - Macron will have his work cut out to take them on!

BTW anyone watch ‘The Real Marigold Hotel’ last night? New series. Pure escapism for an hour. I loved it and slept well last night afterwards! Britt Ekland is so feisty (with her pout trout) and Zandra Rhodes is a hoot at 78y - no diva about her at all! My favourite personality is Barbara Dickson at 72y - born in Fife and utterly charming.

moggie Fri 01-May-20 11:27:16

I hope you have a better day Gillybob flowers ((hugs))

Kalu Fri 01-May-20 11:21:46

Sorry to hear you have been under the weather Feelingmyage good to hear though that you are feeling a bit better, especially with one of Val’s books to escape into which will help. I enjoy her books too.

gillgran Fri 01-May-20 11:14:51

Good Morning to you all, from a slightly brighter, north Cambs., Hope to have a drier day today. May 1st., It's my GD 11th Birthday, today, just had a long chat on the phone & admired her new bicycle.! As always, interested in the weather for all the different places, especially NW Norfolk, where would have been at this time of year. Have a good day, Be kind to yourselves.

Feelingmyage55 Fri 01-May-20 11:07:15

Good morning from a driech north of Scotland. The blossom is beginning to come out on the fruit trees which is very cheering. I have a very good book (Val McDermid) which I have been saving and today is the day to treat myself. I have been under the weather for the last few days but feel better today hence the book, a special tea (evening meal/dinner) and chocolate which was a gift from my neighbour. I also received homemade thank you notes for the Easter eggs give to my friend’s children. They give me such a lift - to me homemade means a gift of time and care and even more than a bought card. I too, keep them in a box - have had to swap up box sizes over the years but love looking through it every couple of years and it brings happy memories. I give home made jams, baking etc all the time and often get asked for more. Pleasure in both giving and receiving. Off to plant sweet peas.
???? especially to grannysyb, dragonfly, gillybob and every one else who needs them - all of us I expect. Oh and going to to my maths class ?

Annaram1 Fri 01-May-20 10:57:21

Happy birthday Mick, I hope you get lots of cards like Col. Tom.
Happy day everybody.

Megs36 Fri 01-May-20 10:52:43

Gabrielle, got to say how I agree with lots of your comments, only just read yesterdays? post! I used to make cards, but.lost enthusiasm and sight not so good, and I think some recipients liked them butI suppose I did them more for my own satisfaction!! You sound so energetic in lots of ways though and certainly make the most of what you have, which often doesn’t seem the case for everyone . ??

gillybob Fri 01-May-20 10:51:41

I’ve got a “secret” box of treasures too Kalu and Calli . It lives on the top of my dresser . The DGC know it’s there but they also know they can’t look in it just yet.

Callistemon Fri 01-May-20 10:45:29

I was going to do scrapbooking and put them into lovely books but somehow never did.

Kalu Fri 01-May-20 10:41:07

I have a treasure box too Callistemon consisting of cards and bits I couldn’t bear to throw away. One card is from my Father to my Mother on her 21st birthday? another from grandparents celebrating my birth. Lovely to have these.

Teetime Fri 01-May-20 10:31:45

Good morning all - more hopeful today after the news yesterday and a lovely chat on the phone with someone as dotty as me. The farmers market is reopening here today so we are off to see what delights await as our daily walk.
Just ordered a TakeAway from our favourite Indian restaurant on Just Eat for tonight- if you haven't tried it works really well.
Have a good day. flowers

Callistemon Fri 01-May-20 10:31:26

I have a keepsake box of 'treasures'

Megs36 Fri 01-May-20 10:30:14

Time flies?Tomorrow will be both my husband’s and granddaughter’s birthdays 84 and 28, often have joint celebrations but this year will be a What’s App toast, the last year has involved lots of hospital visits and stays for him with pneumonia, COPD, pneumothorax ,bladder probs, you name it!hopefully he will stay well’ and we can be a bit normal ,whatever that is.
We will celebrate together with a glass of something ?? and a call to dear granddaughter.

Kalu Fri 01-May-20 10:29:57

Good morning all from a sunny/cloudy start in Glasgow. I now find very hot sunny days uncomfortable. Long gone are the days when 45deg didn’t bother me. I have now become my Granny?

I have ordered two pairs of shorts as I thought I would have time to go back to the but n ben in March to collect some bits before lockdown. It didn’t happen and this is week 9 for us. Although I miss my family desperately, I try to content myself with the thought they are happy and healthy and that’s a positive. Most of the time it works.

Speedy recovery for Dexter
Happy Birthday to your GS Brunette. We will just have to wait a bit longer for all those cuddles we are saving.
You must be so excited at being allowed out tomorrow Urmstongran woohoo. It might feel quite odd actually walking down the street again. Never in our wildest dreams did an of us ever imagine this would be such a pleasure for us.
Bon appétit for tonight and enjoy your freedom tomorrow. Woohoo?
You had an awful day yesterday gillyI hope today is a better one for you and something can be found to lift your spirits.

A perfect washing day so towels drying in the sun and more gardening will fill another day.

Wishing everyone a good day and a better one for those of you feeling low.

GrannyOwl5 Fri 01-May-20 10:28:00

Good morning everyone from an overcast Kent, sun keeps trying to peep through, but then dives back behind the clouds.
My local nursery is due to make a delivery of plants and compost today and our local vegetable shop is delivering our weekly fruit and veg - I can hardly contain my excitement!
Glad to hear the news about Dexter Dragonfly; hope he continues to make progress. Sorry to hear about little Henry Susan56, it must be a worry for you all.
Glad you are about to be released Urmstongran; I'm a newbie on here, but have looked forward to reading about your lockdown experiences. Enjoy your outing tomorrow.
Hope BlueSapphire is ok.
Take care everyone

harrigran Fri 01-May-20 10:22:46

Good morning from a sunny NE, a lovely start to May.
Slept in this morning so we will be behind all day, not that there is anything to do.
Grocery delivery at eleven tonight, first we have been able to get since lockdown.
The family will do a video call tonight.
Take care everyone.
