Using Staying Alert in England , where Scotland and Wales and maybe NI will still use Stay Home.
To me Stay Alert means being on the ALERT to all things.
The slogan could also be misread like all Government gobbledegook .
If Stay Home was redone as Stay at Home, but also state what that means , As we are aware we need to shop and exercise as part of are daily routine .
But how many will misread it all.

Oh god fiachna what do you want? the pm to go round each individuals houses to risk assess/problem solves for them?

public transport isnt banned. Avoid it if you can. You might have to leave earlier if services are reduced. But damn can people not figure this out for themselves? I am beginning to thing people WANT to be micromanaged forever.

Re childcare. People working from home can continue to do so if its productive. People working in businesses compelled to close will stay off (cinemas, clothes shops). People whose employer OPTED to close are the only ones going back and did they not discuss this in advance with their employer and partner if they have one? Its hardly a bolt from the blue. People who left it until the last minute to address what would happen on reopening only have thenselves to blame. DH and I discussed this from the start! He is changing his hours temporarily/initially. We can do this because we planned for reopening from the day we shut. It was NEVER going to be permanant and reopening was always going to be logistically different from pre lockdown.

But Germany have just loosened lockdown and the infection rate is shooting up again. Should we not have extra measures in place here before people start going back to work/using public transport; an app for a start and more testing and contact tracing etc etc?

Notanan2 keep your hair on. I assume you and your husband have your own business? So what do a couple do if they do not work in the same place and possibly in opposite directions? What do they do with their children? To my knowledge schools and nurseries are not back, so where do the children go? I was asking a simple question. You and your husband planned, fair enough but you have to admit plenty people won't have. Perhaps childminders might be back at work? I really don't understand why you ask a simple question and get your head bitten off. Im not stupid Notanan, nor do I want the PM to go around everyone's door and micromanage everyone's life. I was asking on behalf of the people I think will struggle, of course if that is alright with you?

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 00:47:16

I think it should have been 'Staying Alive' with the accompanying music and words changed to suit the situation.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 00:51:02

We dont work in the same place actually the business is only part of our income.

I am also employed and I raised at the start with my boss that the changes I made with my hours to cover Covid related flexibility must be temporary and that when DH reopened I would need my old hours back eventually. We agreed (Dh&I AND my boss and I) that even after reopening I would initially remain fully flexible (again on the understanding it was not permanant) and DH would start off on adjusted hours.
Nobodys boss is psychic. Its on the employee to go to their employer with their circumstances and discuss working around it.

You and your husband planned, fair enough but you have to admit plenty people won't have.
Everyone could have. Nobody was promised unlimited furlough. Everybody was told over and ovef and over that when lockdown ended it would be a "new normal"

If people stuck their heads in the sand and didnt address their reopening childcare issues with their employers before today, that is not the PMs fault.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 00:51:08

Maybe one works from home (if possible) or they work alternate weeks. One might have to adapt and change jobs.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 00:57:23

and some nurseries ARE still open.

If people left it until tonight to bother finding out which ones were, they may struggle. Yes. Nobody elses fault though.

Although I dont think it'll be the huge logistical rush you imagine.

Shielding families: no change
Keyworkers: no change
Employees of closed by order businesses: no change
Those who can work from home: no change
Those whose employers already chose to open with distancing: no change

Some whose employers could have reopened at any point, but chose not to yet: a not exactly unforseen change that could have happened at any point up to today anyway

Fiachna50 Mon 11-May-20 00:58:41

Well bully for you Notanan, aren't you just wonderful.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 00:59:14

No Im not wonderful its basic adulting.

Fiachna50 Mon 11-May-20 01:02:18

Basic bull***.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 01:02:57

Fiachna50
Public transport. By public transport. Boris said it. I heard it.
If you cannot travel by car, car or bike or walk then use PT, however, there will be fewer seats available to use due to the rules but more buses will run.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 01:04:08

Oh I'm sorry, I mean BJ came to my house with multicoloured pens and rearranged our family planner diary for us hmm Then helped DH pick his return to work outfit

Better?

Fiachna50 Mon 11-May-20 01:05:35

Oh Im greetin into my cornflakes, you are all sooo funny.

Fiachna50 Mon 11-May-20 01:07:31

Why are you jumping into this Gabriella? Do you not have enough to occupy you. Oh I forgot Ive seen how you speak to people, you and notanan must really get it on.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 01:08:35

Lulubelle500 York marathon? I'm down for that as is one of my sons and his wife. They ran and did pbs last year. Great day out. I hope we're past all this by then.

Fiachna50 Mon 11-May-20 01:10:26

You two are really something else. No wonder folk leave this place in droves. You ask a simple question and get nastiness as the answer, you are both welcome to each other.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 01:12:22

Oh! I'm sorry Fiachna50
I though I was helping to make it clear about travel to work. You did wonder how workers would get there if no car or bike.
Agsin, I'm sorry to have upset you.

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 01:19:57

Point out the nastiness in my post and I'll apologise. Why get wound up?

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 01:28:23

And it's up to parents to sort out childcare arrangements with work, their partner or nurseries. We're adults and should not expect Government to organise the minutae of our lives.
We've had 6-7 weeks to get life after lockdown sorted but some have treated it as a holiday and put no thought into going back to work and their childcare arrangements.

MayBee70 Mon 11-May-20 01:29:31

So, what are the safety measures in workplaces for tomorrow for places that are re opening. There are numerous health and safety guidelines about other things so surely there will be guidelines about how to keep employees safe from the virus. And, if someone comes down with the virus will all of their work colleagues have to self isolate for 14 days? Are London buses still free to use? If not how will passengers pay without possibly infecting the driver?

MayBee70 Mon 11-May-20 01:32:50

We haven't had 6-7 weeks to get sorted. For one thing knowledge about the virus is changing all the time. There is now the inflammatory infection in young children to worry about and yet they're talking about children going back to school. It's as if we're over the worst with this pandemic but this country is still at the beginning.

Furret Mon 11-May-20 06:31:06

Fiachna I agree

Grammaretto Mon 11-May-20 06:33:55

Surely schools and nurseries have to reopen before workplaces can start up?
At our GC school there have been 9 pupils the whole time . You have to have 2 key worker parents to qualify.

If things get going again emerge from lockdown it is going to be chaos - I predict. Lots of lerts wobbling about at 2 metre distance.

notanan2 Mon 11-May-20 06:49:57

Surely schools and nurseries have to reopen before workplaces can start up?

Lots of non keyworker work kept going all along. People can still work from home. Lots of workplaces are still NOT allowed to open.

Its not a big change. Very unlikely to be a sudden change for both parents

Grammaretto Mon 11-May-20 07:17:21

I realise that notanan but it is a fact that as thousands of workplaces are going to open again the sudden pressure on the schools will be overwhelming. From 9 pupils to full classrooms in a 500 pupil school sounds scary.
I hope it will be alright but in my immediate family we have several key workers whose partners have been able to wfh and cover childcare , with difficulty, but what happens if the partners are expected to go back to work. Stay alert?
