It is because Brexit is looming up and there is expected to be huge delays at the Dover crossing. The Tories don’t want to add to the massive delay so are willing to sacrifice health security on the alter of Brexit.

Be ready for more massive levels of shortages. We haven’t got over the last lot yet.

Some countries and their press ‘puff themselves up’ much more than happens here...

Surely we can only have that agreement with France if we have some sort of
joint test, trace, isolate system that covers both countries. And we don’t even have that in place here.

Two nurses of my acquaintance are done with BBC, it is wallowing in misery.
One works on an ICU ward, now only dealing with C-19 patients. She does not directly know any member of staff that has had it.
I asked the questions about PPE clothing and kit. That hospital has no shortages of anything. The management and the departmental managers were all better prepared.
The other is a District Nurse, they are fairly busy but not over-worked.
Any problems are local and depend on local teams.

george I still can’t get flour, various tinned fruit I use for breakfast, some stuff is still being rationed like tinned tomatoes and strangely anchovies. Eggs are now more available but were difficult at one stage. Gluten free stuff is still touch and go.

Whitewave all the food items you mentioned are available in Waitrose and have been every week since lockdown, I buy all off them every week including today .

Those who think this government have handled this pandemic well need to look up KK Shailaja, the health minister of a state in India called Kerala. She saw what was happening in China, consulted with scientific advisors and there have been very few deaths. She had experience of another deadly virus called Nipah that was successfully dealt with in 2018. I'm afraid I can't do a link.

Just looked on Sainsos website and tins of tomatoes are plentiful. You can only buy
three of an item but I got round this by putting 3 single tins of 1 brand chopped tomatoes and 3 tins of another brand plus 3 × 4 packs and all went into my basket. Surely no-one needs more than 24 tins a week. Peaches, pears, prunes, rhubarb and pineapple in fruit juice or the normal thicker juice are also plentiful.

Some choices were limited in the early week or two only. But fine now at majors and the Co-op special blessings because they are closest.
Am here in the new wonder metropolis BCP. (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole). But that was last year's rant.

South Downs back of Shoreham/ Hove. We get weekly online with Sainsbury’s and are self isolating because DH is high risk.

No flour since lock down , but yesterday a neighbour brought in some gluten free from Asda.
We eat apricots or peaches with porridge etc. DH won’t eat prunes.

I use loads of tinned tomatoes and only get one tin a week delivered. I ask for a 4 pack and generally only get a single can.

But my main point is that we ain’t seen nothing yet.

No shortages of foodstuff from Sainsburys here in Oxfordshire, getting hand soap is tricky though.
I received a pack of 4 tinned tomatoes along with tinned fruit ( just in case) I even had chocolate ! Naughty but we really needed it, well , I did.
There wasn’t an 80 item limit this week either.

Have you tried Asda WW? They seem to be more innovative than the others. DS arrived home with what DiL thought must be doughnuts - but it was SR flour in a doughnut bag. There wasn't a shortage of flour, just bags, as the order was for bulk flour for the bakery.

Its only brown sugar which I can't now get on my Tesco order. I think they're all doing remarkably well.

We are ordering on line - on their at risk list. I haven’t been into a store since before lockdown. I’m too frightened to take the bug back to DH. I’ve spent some hard years keeping him going, I’m not about to give up now!!!

Ditto here WW. No exercise walks. No visiting the shops. Tesco has been pretty good - except I have to stay up very late to get a slot. Sainsbury's say DH isn't on the government list - but he is!

We've had problems with Sainsburys too. My daughter says she's going to stick with Tescos after this as they've been so good.

The first shortage of toilet rolls was caused by a panic in Australia as they have to import theirs but ours are made in the UK.

To date we’ve been told there are shortages of eggs, flour and yeast but have had no problem getting any of the items. We’ve been making bread for some years now.

Social media and the press are stirring up unnecessary problems just because they can and that’s feeding the frenzy amongst the anxious and the trouble makers.

I’m not sure why everyone decided they needed to make bread suddenly. The bakeries in this area still have bread, rolls etc mid/late afternoon.

Australia does not have to import its toilet paper, I understand they are 80% self sufficient in the stuff.

It’s remarks like yours about massive shortages to come that set off such shortages. If that’s what you think, fine, but otherwise best to keep such concerns to yourself maybe, instead of scaremongering.
Yes, certain things are not easy to get, but no one will die from a lack of a spoonful or two of fruit on their porridge or whatever.

It's probably their policy to have limits on certain items. You can easily get around it by ordering two tins of one brand and two of another.

I'm another one on the official vulnerable list who is getting deliveries from tesco. Im a long time Sainsbury customer but they insist my nectar card is faulty and that I'm not registered as vulnerable. Ive been impressed by the quality from tesco, so will stay with them

Sussexborn, many of us are baking our own bread so we don't need to go into shops. Enclosed spaces seem to increase the risk of the virus.

Well, I think it's all a bit if a mix-up as I am certainly not on any vulnerable list nor have I registered on the Gov website.
I do and have had Tesco and Sainsbury deliveries since lockdown despite not having any prior to that bar one Sainsos 10 years ago.
That shows you all is not as it should be regarding the info they receive.

Depends where you are Gabriella. I am on the shielding list and still find it impossible to get Tesco deliveries. I am lucky though and have no problem with Waitrose, Sainsbury and Ocado.

Still, I'm glad you're obviously being 'looked after' by some supermarkets. Waitrose here are not showing slots for a month. ??
