May I just point out that this address was to England as Scotland and Wales seem to have decided to do things differently. That is fair enough unless you live about 500 yards from a border.

paddyanne Mon 11-May-20 20:23:27

It is England thats out of step ,the rest of us want to keep lockdown and the stay at home slogan for at least the next couple of weeks. If the chief clown is happy to send folk out to infect others and cause death thats HIS choice. One step over our border is a step too many .People who try to travel into Scotland or Wales will be prosecuted .
I know who I trust and it aint the blond buffoon!!

EllanVannin Mon 11-May-20 20:33:49

All it needs are the trains to be jam-packed once again with one " carrier ".

It's a risk that nobody would/should take if they've got any sense.

Why can't we wait until there are no more recorded deaths ?

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 21:21:34

I'm watching to see what happens to travel between the UK and France this summer.
Will it all be plain sailing?
Have any of you booked your hols there yet?

GabriellaG54 Mon 11-May-20 21:25:34

As carriers do not know they're carriers until a test proves it or they display symptoms, it may be never ending. By then, who knows how many might be infected and they too will not know until a test proves otherwise or they too have symptoms by then...you get the picture.

As I read in a newspaper today "B.J.'s lockdown plans prove that there's no crisis he can't make worse" gringringrin

And after watching him deliver his address, I fully concur!

alishka spot on

think I’ve worked it out...

* 4 year olds can go to school, but university students who have paid for the tuition they haven’t had and the accommodation they aren’t living in, can’t go to university.

* I can go to school with many 4 year olds that I’m not related to, but can’t see one 4 year old that I am related to.

* I can sit in a park, but not tomorrow or Tuesday, but by Wednesday that’ll be fine.

* I can meet one person from another household for a chat or to sunbathe, but not two people, so if I know two people from another household I have to pick my favourite. Hopefully, I’m also their favourite person from my household or this could be awkward. But possibly I’m not. In fact, thinking about it, I definitely wouldn’t be. But I can’t go closer than 2m to the one I choose anyway - so you wouldn’t think having the other one sat next to them would matter - unless two people would restrict my eyeline too much and prevent me from being alert.

* I can work all day with my colleagues, but I can’t sit in their garden for a chat after work.

* I can now do unlimited exercise, when quite frankly just doing an hour a day felt like I was some kind of fitness guru. I can think of lots of things that I would like to be unlimited, but exercise definitely isn’t one of them.

* I can drive to other destinations, although which destinations is unclear. I was supposed to be in Brighton this weekend. Can I drive there? It’s hundreds of miles away, but no one has said that’s wrong.

* The buses are still running past my house but I shouldn’t get on one. We should just let empty buses drive around so bus drivers aren’t doing nothing.

* It will soon be time to quarantine people coming into the country by air... but not yet. It’s too soon. And not ever if you’re coming from France because... well, I don’t do know why, actually. Because the French version of coronavirus wouldn’t come to the UK, maybe.

* Our youngest children go back to school first because... they are notoriously good at not touching things they shouldn’t, maintain personal space at all times, and never randomly lick you.

* We are somewhere in between 3.5 and 4.5 on a five point scale, where 5 is all of the virus and 1 is none of the virus, but 2, 3 and 4 can be anything you’d like it to be, really. Some of the virus? A bit of the virus? Just enough virus to see off those over 70s who were told to self isolate, but now we’ve realised that they’ve done that a bit too well despite us offloading coronavirus patients into care homes, and now we are claiming that was never said in the first place, even though it’s in writing in the stay at home guidance?

* The slogan isn’t stay at home any more.So we don’t have to stay at home. Except we do. Unless we can’t. In which case we should go out. But there will be fines if we break the rules. So don’t do that.

Don’t forget...

Stay alert... which Robert Jenrick has explained actually means stay home as much as possible. Obviously.

Control the virus. Well, I can’t even control my dogs, and I can actually see them. Plus, I know a bit about dogs and very little about controlling viruses.

Save lives. Always preferable to not saving lives, I’d say, so I’ll try my best with that one, although hopefully I don’t need telling to do that. I know I’m bragging now, but not NOT saving lives is something I do every day.

So there you are. If you’re the weirdo wanting unlimited exercise then enjoy. But not until Wednesday. Obviously.

Callistemon Mon 11-May-20 22:34:32

Furret grin

Well, I'd invite you to come and see me because I have plenty of lockdown banana cake to share but I'd have to send DH to visit his favourite person so that you weren't visiting two people at once and in fact you're not allowed to come because I live in Wales. Not even on Wednesday.
Sorry.

Alice in wonderland couldn’t have done worse after her magic mushrooms

Furret Mon 11-May-20 22:55:59

Meet you on the border and I’ll swap you two toilet rolls and a packet of yeast for some banana cake.

Callistemon Mon 11-May-20 23:01:10

I'll throw it across, Furret and hope it doesn't land in the river!

Alishka Mon 11-May-20 23:11:29

Bravo! Furretgringringrin

FarNorth Tue 12-May-20 00:31:55

I was a bit confused, but not now.
Thanks for the clear explanation Furret.

Nana3 Tue 12-May-20 00:45:46

Furret

Best laugh in ages. Thanks ?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 12-May-20 06:42:50

furret

Your explanation was so much clearer than Johnson and his cabinet cronies.

Well done??

shandi6570 Tue 12-May-20 07:02:40

Thank you Furret for your explanation of the 'new rules', you have made me cry, although I'm not sure if it's with laughter or despair. ?

Riverwalk Tue 12-May-20 07:09:21

Gabriella I have a flight booked to Toulouse in August - booked long ago so will just see how things develop. I should be in Tuscany right now so keeping fingers crossed for France!

Riverwalk Tue 12-May-20 07:14:50

As for Bozo's address to the nation, I think he was just grandstanding and trying to be statesmanlike/Churchillian.

It was totally unnecessary, given that he was to address Parliament the next day and hold a daily press briefing. Even the Speaker made a comment last week about his plan to speak on TV on Sunday, before telling Parliament.

12Michael Tue 12-May-20 07:15:37

What they have said if you listened especially those over 70 , the restrictions are still place as to movement, but also allot depends on decline in death rate , what was low yesterday does not mean its going to go down further it could rapidly increase and cause a 2nd wave and further lockdowns
Mick

BlueBelle Tue 12-May-20 07:25:16

Messages should be completely clear you shouldn’t have to have a discussion to try and translate it

Beechnut Tue 12-May-20 07:35:53

Furret that made me smile ?

Willow73 Tue 12-May-20 07:44:18

Furret you are a star, you answered all my questions! Well maybe not one, why are French people allowed to come in without any quarantine? answers on gransnet please, not a postcard, that might carry the virus across the Welsh/Scottish borders!
Thanks to you all for the laughs on here.

MawB Tue 12-May-20 07:50:55

Read it before Furret - on FB and not even original there - unless they were quoting you?
