Hi all,
I have decided to start a treat yourself society here on GransNet as I feel as we are trying to be kinder to one another, we also need to be kinder to ourselves, especially in times like these. Who’s with me?

I’ll start, I treated myself to three tops and a beautiful pair of pyjamas last night (my mother gave me some money to treat myself).

I also thought it might be a good idea to encourage our loved ones to do the same.

So, let’s have a lovely thread, a lovely time treating ourselves and a lovely treat.
Take care,
FlyingHandbag x

I got some bright orangey nail polish. At this point I have only done one hand. It’s very vibrant. Not my usual but hey-ho. Life’s all about experimentation!

Bought a couple of coloured denim type jackets from Shein last year and they were good value for money and fine.

I treated myself to a Babyliss Big Hair hot air hairdryer. One of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Once I got to grips how to use it I finished up with a pretty professional looking blow dry? A nice change from the messy bun look.

Also found a couple of,pairs of chino style shorts on Amazon. I pair, shell pink other pair white. Great fit and not expensive.

Lovely thread FlyingHandbag. Considering I have only been out a handful of times since mid March a little treat now and again helps through this journey.

As I said on another thread yesterday I had already decided before the pandemic started that I am not going to buy any more clothes, shoes, handbags etc as I have so many and lots still new and unused. But we did treat ourselves to a new washing machine two weeks ago. We had had our washing machine for 10 years and until last year with never a problem. An engineer who came to look at it said it was just a case of cleaning the filter and cleaning out the draining pipe. He did that and charged €10. But it still kept stopping midcycle so we bought a new one.
Then yesterday DH was able to get a 3 kilo joint of Sirloin of beef at 30% discount. So it will cut into 3 x 1kg joints, 1 for tomorrow and 2 for the freezer. So we are happy.

I've treated my pond to pond plants which means I'll get to spend longer pottering out in the garden and hopefully get a bit fitter too. I'm really pleased that the pond will look nice again after a lot of hard work but the plants have been on order for 4 weeks and don't come until the end of May! Online garden centres must be inundated. I've also got some 'Seed and Bean' chocolate in the cupboard! grin

I had money given by my father for this very purpose to buy something unnecessary. ? Bought a lovely lamp of an elephant with a Howdah & Mahout. Guilt reduced, happiness increased with 20% discount. ☺️

As one of my daughters remarked: "We have to keep the economy going". She seems to be doing it single-handedly judging by the online deliveries that arrive here for her shock

FlyingHandbag Sat 16-May-20 20:52:17

I’m probably the economy’s best friend at the momentgrin

I got some flowers from Bloom & Wild last week.
Then yesterday I bought a new lens for my camera, out of a legacy I received a few years ago. It should be here on Monday & I'm very excited about trying it out.

I've just ordered new slippers and a pair of comfy, I hope, new trainers. The only excitement these days is getting a parcel!

I treated myself ( or should I say the birds) today on a concrete bird bath. If we're virtually locked down we might as well watch the birds enjoying themselves ?

Evie64 Sat 16-May-20 22:49:25

I'm a sucker for a bargain. As a result I've bought 2 pairs of slippers and 2 pairs of shoes, due to Shoe Zone offering BOGOF. I know they are not "posh" but they will do for a couple of seasons. Watching the pennies.

Sawsage I've treated my garden birds too. I ordered a selection of bird seeds online from a company called Peckamix yesterday and they arrived today! How's that for brilliant service. They were very reasonably priced too.
Treating the birds makes me happy and watching them has given me lots of pleasure during lockdown.

I have just ordered a pair of gorgeous pink golf shoes , I hope it won’t be long before the course is open and I can wear them with shorts , weather permitting.

I have used Shein a couple of times. Bought a larger size as I saw that they were from China. Big mistake, they were enormous and I had to alter them. Also they were of very poor quality. Hope you have better luck with your items Luckygirl.

My OH bought me a new air threading overlocker as I was fed up with threading the old one, it was to justify the new iPad he has bought for himself and to compensate for missing 2 holidays.

Hetty58 Sun 17-May-20 08:31:15

frenchie3, crikey, I wouldn't bother altering something of poor quality. I'd just send it back!

NotAGran55 Sun 17-May-20 08:40:26

I haven’t treated myself to anything yet . However , I’m dithering about blowing a lot of money on some Liberty fabric to make a pin tucked blouse ?. The big ‘treat’ element of going to Liberty and having the joy of touching and smelling! the fabric it will be missing .
I find online shopping pretty soulless . Decisions , decisions...

GagaJo Sun 17-May-20 08:58:28

Oh I love Liberty fabric! Such beautiful quality. I made daughter a dress out of a remnant when she was 4 or 5. Deep blue and maroon plums on a lighter blue/lilac background.

I just bought some white trainers. What the heck everyone’s treating themselves

FlyingHandbag Sun 17-May-20 11:55:36

I just got some white trainers as a present from my uncle. He frequently does this, I mention something I like then he sends me a message on Facebook telling me he has bought me it. My mother is going to get me a few things from Superdrug (my family have insisted on treating me during lockdown as it has made me very very very down.)

I've gone through with it and bought a new bike. I wasn't going to because I thought my hill problems were simply due to lack of fitness and my own bulk but yesterday DH used my bike and I've never seen him in so much pain. He never has a problem on his bike. He said that my bike is awful. Too heavy and difficult to manoeuvre. It served it's purpose when I first bought it a few years ago when we lived on a lovely flat flood plain but now I need something more suitable to hills. Sadly I've had to dip into our Romahome savings but DH insists it's for the best. I know he's right but hmm

Jaxie Sun 17-May-20 18:11:33

I’ve treated my son to some new slippers: see pic of his old ones!

seacliff Sun 17-May-20 18:18:10

I have not bought much (yet). Just a couple of colourful new cotton vest tops from Bon Marche, as they are still trading at present.

Yesterday a real treat, a visit to a small garden centre. I went first thing, just got some sharp sand and grit, to take cuttings. Also 2 trailing begonias, and a nepeta (cat mint). Trouble is, as soon as I got home the cats sniffed it out and started eating it!! I've had to put it in a cat cage to protect it. I am trying to take a few cuttings, so it has more chance of survival.

One thing I really want is new curtains for my bedroom, as that will give me daily pleasure. Mind are old and shabby. I'll have a look online at Dunelm.

Anniel Sun 17-May-20 18:18:23

Thsk you all for such a interesting and happy thread. I learned a lot about new places to enjoy and spend on stuff in this Lockdown.
