B9 - 1984 plus a large chunk of Brave New World!

People who deliberately drink to excess.

I never quite got the point of the show, as room 101 was the torture chamber in George Orwell’s 1984, he named it after a conference room at the BBC where Orwell would have to sit through tortuously boring meetings.

The idea of Room 101 was that it contained your absolute utmost fears, where you would be threatened with something so terrible that you can’t bear it, can’t even think about it. Until you are forced to gasp 'don't do it to me do it to somebody else' even naming your nearest and dearest.

The show just looks at things people dislike, not that they are terrified of, but I suppose it makes entertainment.

It does rather feel as though we are now living in 1984, in George Orwell’s chilling prophecy about the future, the government controls the individual by suppressing individual happiness and freedom through a combination of manipulation and fear. The Thought Police are always present and able to watch everybody all the time and see into their minds. With cameras and microphones placed everywhere, the Thought Police watch every move of the citizens 24/7. Children are encouraged to report their parents to the authorities for the slightest crime, and it is your duty to inform on your neighbours. Ring any bells? sad

So many things/people. At the moment, it would have to be all these stupid people who have been queuing for hours at Costa, in order to buy an over-priced coffee from a drive-through. Pathetic.

Expect Lucca was speaking of the billionaires!

merlotgran Mon 18-May-20 17:05:53

Predictable tutting.

Lucca Mon 18-May-20 17:02:58

Oh dear. Any excuse

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 16:27:58

I think there might be a huge stack of those books in room 101 Anniebach maybe if it gets chilly we could use them to keep warm . Assuming someone has a box of matches that is . Maybe one of Terribulls "slebs" might have a diamond encrusted lighter ?

Anniebach Mon 18-May-20 16:21:51

Yep Harry and Megan and their book of self sacrifice and self pity.

Marilla Mon 18-May-20 16:16:36

Adult cyclists who ride on the pavement and expect you to move out of their way.
Since when did cyclists stop using bells? ?

merlotgran Mon 18-May-20 16:10:07

Harry and Meghan!

Granny23 Mon 18-May-20 16:04:16

Wire coathangers, which always gang up on me and form attachments to their neighbours

Matching sets of toiletries for the shower. I always get them muddled when my glasses are off and use in the wrong order. Had partially solved the problem by only buying yellow/orange shampoo, white conditioner, blue/green shower gel but back to square one now that A N other is buying/delivering my shopping.

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 15:59:36

oh and all of them that TerriBull talks about too.

Is there even enough room in 101 for them and their ego's?

gillybob Mon 18-May-20 15:58:05

Barclays Bank.

I call them KIA's Farview and DanniRae

TerriBull Mon 18-May-20 15:52:54

Right now all those rich bastards people with billions who furlough their staff at the tax payers expense. Glad to see The Sunday Times' editorial was headed up "The Rich List should remind billionaires to give back" 20 billionaires have turned to the government for help during Covid 19 for that purpose and a couple of the individuals mentioned are themselves tax exiles.

Then all the vulgar, naff brigade who feel they should constantly up date their minion followers on how they are suffering through the lock down at their 2nd home mansion, equipped with acres of land and outdoor swimming pool.

Teetime Mon 18-May-20 15:23:21

People who fly tip!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 18-May-20 15:21:02

People who do graffiti - some of it is artistic but most of it isn't. Iced up windscreens. Those who are incapable of saying please or thank you.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 18-May-20 15:17:46

People that drop litter and fly tippers ????

AGAA4 Mon 18-May-20 15:17:16

I would put in all the people who flout the lockdown rules but it would need to be a very big room!

DanniRae Mon 18-May-20 15:13:41

People who always already know everything you ever try to tell them - people who, for some strange reason, never finish their sentences - people who don't have an opinion when you want to discuss something but when in company have plenty of opinions on the same subject ..........Are you listening Mr R?
I think being in lockdown with my husband is starting to get to me!! hmm

lemongrove Mon 18-May-20 14:45:58

I shall add: delivery drivers / postmen who put a ‘sorry you were out please call for another attempted delivery’ note through your door when you were actually in and listening out for the bell ( which never rang because they didn’t bother to bush the button.)

Lucca Mon 18-May-20 14:44:20

I know - I just didn’t want to go all Victoria Meldrew!

lemongrove Mon 18-May-20 14:43:07

Ah, you were tempted ?

Lucca Mon 18-May-20 14:42:38

Wow lemongrove - we agree !!

lemongrove Mon 18-May-20 14:42:35

Being tempted is the idea by Farview Lucca.?
