Esspee that's interesting about phenergan. I might try it. I struggle to sleep most nights. For several years. Then I'm like a wet rag the next day.
I find piriton makes me drowsy .
OTOH if I have a 'good' night I can cope so well the next day.

I didn't sleep until 10am. I've had my makeup and clothes on since 3-4am!

I usually manage to sleep ok but last night sleep didn’t come until far later than normal. I just read a bit and then turned the light off again.

I find if my mind is busy it’s far more difficult to sleep so I try to switch off before turning the light off.

I'm on antidepressants and take one each night, so I'm sufficiently drowsy an hour after taking it. I sometimes wake up a couple of hours later, to use the toilet. Some nights I'm up 2 or 3 times a night, but I haven't slept all through the night for almost 40 years. Last night was decent - I went to bed at 11.15, was up at 4am, went back to bed until 7.

I make a point of not looking at my phone as it starts me thinking and then i can`t get back to sleep.
I spray lavender on my bedding and it really does help.

If you can't sleep at night take a nap (or several cat naps) during the day. I used to worry about it but now I have no commitments, it doesn't matter if I don't sleep during the night.

Minimoon I was another one awake but I don't look at my phone either. It's getting to the stage where I might as well though because nothing else has worked.
I usually fall asleep for an hour or two then awake feeling awful and dizzy for the rest of the night.

I sleep so well each night and would possibly still be there if my cat did not have other ideas after 7am. I even have the odd nap during the day. I have no idea why I sleep so well.

I didn't look at my tablet in the night, but I was awake then too.
I went to bed at my usual time, played a puzzle game for a while and settled down.
Did sleep come? No!
It was after the dawn chorus that I finally settled into some sort of decent sleep.
Consequently I have only been up for about half an hour!

Rubbish isn't it.

I have an occasional wakeful night but it’s not often, I get up have a cup of tea and read till I feel drowsy again.

Clearly you were alone in your insomnia FlyingHandbag.

My solution, which I need to use very occasionally as normally I could sleep for Scotland, is Phenergan a drowsy antihistamine. You can buy it over the counter.

Hope you managed to get back to sleep.

It's almost 2am, the pain is horrendous, I am listening to music through my earphones and I'm going to slip downstairs for some ice cream. If you can't sleep, this is a chat thread for those of us who are awake. flowers
