Going topless

We established in a previous thread that hanging out washing is acceptable and not common.
So what about topless men?
My unattractive neighbour a retired teacher thinks it’s fine to wander around topless, in fine weather he goes out shopping, gardens at the front of the house and generally parades around the neighbourhood without a shirt.
I think it’s really uncouth, unless by a swimming pool the sea or a private garden it shouldn’t be allowed.
Your thoughts please.

MawB - David Gandy is a bit of alright!!!!!!

Our next door neighbour walks around with his top off at the first sight of sun and he looks like a bit of burned gammon with white hairy bits on! Bloody disgusting and his wife is no better. They are horrible and he already has an asbo for other things that he has got up to in the neighbourhood. One of the things is taking photos of a single mum which he has been caught doing several times. The next time the police come out then he may get arrested. I think it looks disgusting. x

Never mind topless men. I'm quite shocked (I'm easily shocked) that anyone could consider hanging washing out to be common! I love to see washing fluttering in the breeze and oh the lovely smell when it's being ironed.

EXACTLY BlueSky. This is exactly why it’s so very wrong.

What are we doing?

Lets admit it - - a lot of people, male and female, do not "do" casual well. I wonder whether any of them possess a full-length mirror and look in it before they venture out or perhaps they just see what they want to see.

We were on the Isle of Capri with DS/DIL. August and sweltering! Within 5 mins of arriving my lovely son, about 30 at the time, peeled off his T shirt. Within another 5 mins local police told him to put it back on.

I was pleased! Enough said!!!

I don't think men or women should go to the shops, pub, etc dressed as if they were on the beach - regardless of whether they look fantastic or a mess.
However, you should be able to dress as you want in your own garden.

P. S. When David Gandy hit the modelling scene I thought "gorgeous" top on or top off.

Mentioned him to my daughter, approx 30 years younger than me and her reaction was also "gorgeous".

His physical appeal crosses all age groups. Gorgeous to look at but on a rare interview my interest waned just a little. Not very interesting apart from the obvious!

In the garden it's fine for men to go topless, But would prefer not to see it outside, or in shops etc. .

Rufus2 Wed 27-May-20 11:51:48

I actually found myself looking at those who kept their top on
MRGUDER Perfectly understandable! Looking at topless leaves nothing to the imagination and quite often leaves you feeling flat! hmm

As soon as the sun comes out a man living in this small town dons the shortest shorts imaginable, and wears them all summer. He clearly shaves or waxes his legs and slaps fake tan on. He is quite elderly, and somehow I find the whole picture repulsive. I also don't like the acres of lardy flesh, often tatttoed, that is exposed at the slightest excuse all over the country. However, the charming, modest and decidedly gorgeous David Gandy is another matter altogether. If you look good and are toned with smooth skin then why not? I wish that some members of the population had a full length mirror or a tactful friend.

I'm not suggesting people should become hermits if they don't match up to the ideal of beauty, but wobbly bits are better covered - it's making the best of what you have and not displaying those areas that are deeply unflattering. I am now ducking behind the parapet. .

Yes to in their garden or a beach,or theyre always going to stay palid arent they? No to in shops& out& about in streets, bars etc. And yes, theres a few on here preferring it if its a fit toned bloke- very sexist ladies! Double standards maybe? You might be among the first to complain if it was about the ladies? Or the OH's were ogling the young, fit female stripped off neighbours?hmmgrinwink

Have to say the strangest comment here was about not liking to see washing hanging out. I find that so seriously strange When I was young garden after garden had a line full of washing on a Monday. Ya can't beat the smell of washing dried outside. Ok back to comment about going topless. It wouldn't bother me except maybe in the supermarket.

HannahLoisLuke Wed 27-May-20 12:00:29

I'm with Iam64.
It's just inappropriate unless at the beach, swimming pool or garden.
Should be denied entrance to public areas other than the above.
It's just slobbish.

Nannan2 Wed 27-May-20 12:06:28

I admit i wouldnt have bared my belly when i had my kids, but pregnant women have nothing to be ashamed of bijouhmm And yes,im a huge fan of Chris Hemsworth,as is my DinL- he can go topless in our gardens anytimewink

lemongrove Wed 27-May-20 12:10:29

Regardless of looks or age, everybody looks better clothed.
What’s wrong with them wearing a tee and shorts in the garden, they would look fine, and be cooler than having the hot sun on bare skin.Remember, you don’t strip off on the beach to stay cool, but either to swim or to acquire a tan.
Those who live in hot countries wear loose cotton garments to stay cool.
If your neighbour wants a tan then he will strip off (cancer
alert!) and I agree it should be in the back garden only, not inflicting his sweaty bare torso on innocent passers by!

Janetashbolt Wed 27-May-20 12:11:30

When my daughter lived at home we decided that only men WE approved could go topless, all hunks of course

Fernbergien Wed 27-May-20 12:21:47

Topless, big tummy, and budgie smugglers. Yuk. Some men must think they look cool!

Florida12 Wed 27-May-20 12:25:06

I am not particularly keen to see topless men other than on holiday or at the swimming baths.
It does offend me when topless men come into the supermarket, in the same way that some sit at the table with a cap on.
I do know that the Florida theme parks do not allow it.

Skweek1 Wed 27-May-20 12:25:14

Can't see anything wrong with either sex going topless on the beach or in their own garden, so long as the body is reasonably attractive and they aren't offending anyone else.vfvvv

Shortlegs Wed 27-May-20 12:28:58

And women, with thighs like tugboats, wearing leggings.

Silverlady333 Wed 27-May-20 12:29:53

It really wouldn't bother me so long as he is not flashing his meat and two veg! I love a well toned bronzed male body though. I drooled over Charlie Humman in 'Son's of Anarchy'!

OMG ! Poor man are we all so perfect that we should sit in judgement on each other, How awful to think that others are so judgemental, maybe I shouldn’t go out at all as I’m overweight, or maybe the elderly should stay out of sight after all who wants to look at their wrinkles and be reminded of getting old, where does it end? Live and let live, surely we have more important things to think about.

gustheguidedog Wed 27-May-20 12:45:36

Now then Mrs. theres only a couple of reasons you would come to a WORLDWIDE group like this with a whinge about men going TOPLESS, either your bored stupid and could not think of anything else to moan about or you are just JEALOUS. Sorry pet but in this time of world crisis is this the best you could do?

It’s chest and leg day today
but,
Will it be down at the gym
or
at KFC ?

Jane10 Wed 27-May-20 12:46:06

Getting a tan is relatively new fashion. It's not the be all and end all and for some is positively dangerous. Keep lightly covered up as those from genuinely hot countries do.
I had 2 grandmothers, one was born in South Africa and lived in India after she married. She avoided direct sunlight all her life and had lovely skin. My other grandmother was born in Scotland but positively chased the sun. She fried herself at every opportunity (impressed by Coco Chanel who started the trend) and in old age had skin like a lizard. It looked awful. Guess which Gran I copy?!

lemsip Wed 27-May-20 12:48:10

Missfoodlove. I so agree with you,it is uncouth! I live opposite an old folks complex of flats and a man, not a gentleman parades along in just a small pair of shorts, he lays outside sunning himself. Trouble is he is in line with my balconey where I sit out side. he lives on his own so no wife to tell him off!
