Going topless

We established in a previous thread that hanging out washing is acceptable and not common.
So what about topless men?
My unattractive neighbour a retired teacher thinks it’s fine to wander around topless, in fine weather he goes out shopping, gardens at the front of the house and generally parades around the neighbourhood without a shirt.
I think it’s really uncouth, unless by a swimming pool the sea or a private garden it shouldn’t be allowed.
Your thoughts please.

Just been out walking dog on seafront. Had same conversation with sister on seeing shirtless men. There should be a by-law against it. I don't care how ripped or buff they are. The law excludes the sublime David Gandy of course. Only exception.

Why is it that comments, like those above, and the opinions that they reveal are more acceptable than the opinions revealed by men of women when the men pass comments on the state of dress or undress, often imagined, of women and young ladies. Both are obnoxious when expressed out loud and display bad taste on all sides. Bare chests or bare boobs maybe attractive to the beholder or not, but in public we should all not vocalise those opinions.

I like the response from MawB. If he were as hot as David gandy would that make a difference?

Jane10 Wed 27-May-20 13:04:19

Not David Gandy

I don't like the trend of having sweaty shirtless men in supermarkets, it's gross. Most guys have huge tattoos now so I think it's a kind of showing off. But I suppose we have to put up with it.

I remember encountering a very overweight, walnut brown Aussie male in late middle age wearing nothing but a g-string wandering along a street in Kuta, Bali many decades ago. I was nearly ?at the sight.

Men with bare top halves is ok if they have a nicely toned, tanned body with no or minimal chest (or back) hair, but most of them are milky white, definitely not toned and could do with a bra! ?

My Mum used to live next door to his mum (Andrew Copper Coke Ad) and my kids used to play with him. I last saw him when he was about 12. He looks pretty good without his shirt!

I think no one should be topless in general public areas. I'm not at all prudish, and think nudity is fine, however, I don't want to see someone's nipples if I'm 1) not related to them or 2) not intimately involved with them.

Not to mention, men shouldn't be able to go topless if women aren't able to.

annab275 Wed 27-May-20 13:24:11

Andrew Cooper that should say (my fat fingers)

I live in a Spanish sea side village and to my shame ,it is Brits that insist on going to the supermarket in tiny short for men and bikinis for women. I dont think you'd pop down Asda in your undies so why is it ok here? There are signs on the doors that they wont serve you if you're not covered up.

This thread is great! I have had some real good chuckles and belly laughs! I have been reading them out to my oh who would never dream of going topless and he has been laughing too. Keep them coming please!

A hunky, tanned male chest is a pleasure to behold. A pot-bellied has-been an eyesore. Whether it is uncouth or not is in the eye of the beholder.
Last summer, new houses were being built next door to me and I thoroughly enjoyed the view! All those gorgeous young men with tanned toned chests!

This is a lighthearted thread as was the washing line one.
Relax,I’m not body shaming or being overly judgemental.
I am stating seeing topless men in the street, shops etc is in my opinion unpleasant.
I was asking how other forum members feel and am very happy to hear some think it’s fine.
“ It shouldn’t be allowed” was tongue in cheek.

GagaJo Wed 27-May-20 14:07:59

Well, maddyone, if I were to parade topless around my local shopping area, I'm pretty sure the local bobby would be out to encourage me to cover up or go indoors. So blue-white Joe Bloggs should do the same. I don't want to see his nipples anymore than he wants to see mine.

Nanna58 Wed 27-May-20 14:12:06

I’m just jealous of anyone who can go topless, if I did my knees wouldn’t get brown!!?

JuliaM Wed 27-May-20 14:24:55

My pet hate of all time is men who think they look Great in a Mankini!
Until recently, I used to spend quite some Sailing and enjoying the Norfolk Broads, and at one point even became a moderator on a forum promoting the area, so got to know a.lot of the locals and the business owners around the area. Some hire boatyards make a lot of money out of hiring River cruiser boats out to all.male groups for Stag parties and milestone birthdays, where as many as 12 merri-making males congregate for a few.days with a care free/careless attitude to what they do or who they offend. The times that I have seen these people running around or.lying out on the deck.of a boat with nothing else but a Mankini on. Most of them may as well not have bothered, there Maleness was in full view for all to see, and some of them were not young men either, most were quite drunk, and none of them bothered who was around to have this sight inflicted on them, including families with young children. Their language and attitude was disgusting, but it appeared to be a case of 'Catch me if you can' knowing full well that the Police would find it difficult to track them down and catch them red-handed when there are only a couple of patrol boats for the entire Broadland network.
Disgusting is an understatement, and most of the boatyards who only hire out their lower quality spec boats to these same sex groups are really more concerned with how much money they make rather than the havoc they cause out on the waterways and to other holiday makers and enthusiasts in the area at the time.

I can think of a few men that I wouldn't mind seeing topless but they're mostly under 30. Flabby bellies don't look good in or out of a t-shirt whether it's women or men.

BlueSapphire Wed 27-May-20 14:57:25

Hate seeing topless men out and about in the streets, and especially the shops, especially when they tuck their removed t- shirts into the waistband of their jeans.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 27-May-20 15:03:10

Doesn't bother me one way or the other.

Bluecat Wed 27-May-20 15:05:26

My ex-SiL, who lived with us, used to go topless when it was very hot. He was very pale with a big fat tummy, so it wasn't a pretty sight.

I've got to say, though, that I don't really care what other people do, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. Live and let live, I think. If people want to look hideous, let them go ahead.

ninathenana Wed 27-May-20 15:10:32

It's always been a standing joke in our family.
"Sun's out, dad will have his top off in a minute"
Himself has always worked in tge garden topless if the weather permits. My dad was the same Himself will walk along the prom topless but he will always put a shirt on when leaving the beach. He'd never walk around town topless..
Our local supermarket is next to the beach and they have signs up in summer saying men must wear shirts but nothing about girls going in wearing really short shorts and bikini tops, which they do.

ninathenana Wed 27-May-20 15:17:37

Do those of you saying I don't want to see topless men in public areas ever go to the beach ?
Are men expected to wear a T-shirt all the time even there.

maddyone Wed 27-May-20 15:33:24

Ha ha Gaga I’m pretty sure no one would want to see mine either, not these days at any rate.

Seriously, I don’t like seeing men in shops or on the street topless. Gardens, beaches, etc it’s fine. I also only look with interest when I’m on the beach, if the topless man is worth looking at. I no longer go topless on the beach myself, those days are long gone. A one piece swimsuit is my beach wear these days.
