The best thing for me was when DGS ( teenager) turned up at the door bearing a large bag of flour, he knew I hadn’t been able to get any via delivered shopping.?
The other thing was when DD called round on Monday and we sat in the garden with iced drinks and chatted for an hour.

Not the past week but the week before last - my daughter had a beautiful little girl, which we are thrilled about but saddened that she lives overseas so it might be a long time until we meet her.

On Tuesday in brilliant sunshine we drove 20 miles to see our eldest granddaughter the day before her 12th birthday. We sat and chatted on their drive and then took her and her sister for a walk to the ice cream van. Sat on the grass and enjoyed our treat. It was a socially distanced visit but blissful even so. Just missed the hugs.

One day over a week! Seeing my granddaughter born in Perth, Australia on a video call. Sad though that my daughter had an emergency Caesarean section and we can’t go out as planned. Her husband is being wonderful though.
Seeing my other three grandchildren from two different families in the south of England on video calls, too far away for us to visit.

Our house sale went through and was completed yesterday, right up until the solicitor said it was done we thought the buyer might pull out. A lot of house sales have collapsed because of the uncertainty during lockdown.

Being told when I came to myself again on Thursday, that the surgeon had found, on making the incision, that all the trouble was caused by a benign ovarian cyst, so that instead of performing a hysterectomy, he could just remove both ovaries, as the uterus was not filled with fibroids as we all had thought.

Being 68 and finished with the menopause my ovaries are surplus to requirement anyhow, whereas a hysterectomy would have entailed removing the cervix as well, and have taken longer to recover from.

Seeing my son on the front lawn, sitting in the sunshine. Gave him some baby clothes for the new baby due in September. Also a lettuce fresh from the garden.

It seems almost too boring to say that for me it was sitting in the sunshine in my daughter's back garden watching my 5 year old grandson playing with the giant bubble wand I gave him. Just wonderful! Gilly1952 I did have to use the loo (I have IBS) and had discussed that with my daughter. She left all the doors open so I wouldn't have to touch handles and left some Dettol bathroom wipes in the loo, so I wiped seat and flush handle and then washed hands using another wipe to operate the taps. She had put out a towel for me and I put that in the laundry basket. Probably over the top really. Infections are now a maximum of 1/1000 of the population. However, I was following recommendations. SIL is on the board of a group of hospices and they have managed to keep it out - probably because staff are used to shielding patients anyway, and a measure of good luck!

I won £1000 on the Postcode Lottery! My neighbour called me to ask if I played, and told me we had won! I only started 4 months ago!

I went for a socially distanced walk with my 12 year old granddaughter - in the rain! It was so lovely to see her and we had a long chat abut nothing much at all.

Celebrating my Grandsons Graduation from College, family gathering in the garden.
Today a lovely surprise as the airline I fly with is starting to fly again soon, this means I can get to my house in the UK, even quaranteen for two weeks means I can be there for at least a month, and mouth covering is such a good idea. How I have missed my friends and my house.

Seeing my five year old granddaughter on Zoom excitedly showing us the 12 week scan picture of her baby brother or sister! So beautiful I’ll remember it always!

Kate51 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:07:23

For me, it was my friend coming to visit. She brought her own flask and we had a lovely catch up in the garden, 2 Metres apart. My family are too far away for a visit so this was lovely

On Wednesday my son and his partner 'invited me to dinner' - I'm in London and they live in Norwich. We both cooked the same dishes and ate on Skype! It was really lovely to share a meal again.

My son called to tell me that he and his wife have agreed a date to move from Bristol to Suffolk where they will stay with DiL's parents until they move to Germany in October. As I live about half way between the two locations they will use me as a toilet stop off and refreshments - hopefully in the garden if it's fine. I haven't seen them since Christmas so it's something to look forward to even though it is over 3 weeks away. The move will be in 2 stages as DiL is expecting my first grandchild in September so her mother is helping by driving the larger vehicles and I should get a visit each time they do the journey. Exciting times. A realise I need to start tidying and cleaning as things have rather slipped during lockdown and my son's MiL has never been to my house before - not that she'll be inspecting I'm sure, but the downstairs loo need to be spotless!

Reading right through this thread with only one negative comment and brilliant news from Carmel. Can remember that feeling. Far better than winning first prize on the lottery.

Video of GS3 having water poured over his head and shouting “more, more” and video of GD1 looking so triumphant as she stands on her own for the first time.

My Brother came home from hospital yesterday, admitted 3rd April, was on a ventilator for 4 weeks, in itc , he is still very weak, has lost 3 stone, still needs 24/7 care and physio daily. Its the BEST THING he is home and family can care for him, we are so thankful he is with us and we can get him through the next stage. People be aware this can happen to you and yours, stay safe x

Sgilley Fri 05-Jun-20 12:42:41

My son and grandson came round yesterday. Tea and cake in the garden whilst grandson played on swing. Lovely. Today daughter and two daughters will be coming to do same. I feel complete!

I've had Follicular Lymphoma since September last year. Chemo, started last November, was cut short because of Coronavirus. PET scan and subsequent gastroscopy /biopsy showed another tumour in my stomach. Had thought that by this April I'd be on the road to good health.
My DD & DGC live 200 miles away. I thought I might never see them again and was very depressed. (Unusual for me!)
My new chemo was due to start last Wednesday, which was my 73rd birthday but the hospital took pity on me and postponed it until the following day.
At lunchtime last Tuesday, there was a knock on the door - I was expecting a birthday present to be delivered - and there was my DD& DGD!!! I burst into tears! (So did my DH when he opened the side gate!)
They came round the side into our back garden - They were wearing masks and had brought their lunch with them. We sat well apart and didn't hug. It was absolutely wonderful - the best birthday present ever! Very glad it was a warm sunny day.
They stayed for a couple of hours and then drove 4 hours back home again. (They'd stopped off at all the service areas between Clacket Lane and Gordano - they said they'd never seen such clean loos!)
This was the most wonderful surprise and made me feel positive again.
New chemo started last Thursday and I've had 3 treatments since then. Although this regime is much more aggressive, I have less extra meds to take and feel absolutely fine so far! Fingers crossed, this treatment WILL WORK!!! (Feeling positive now and not at all depressed.). (Still got all my hair which is currently pink! It makes everyone smile!)

DS1 brought our two DGC for a garden visit after tea. The trampoline and swing were ready for them! FaceTime is great but to see them in the flesh was wonderful.
