I am so very sorry. My computer has died on me. Am having to use MacS's and am in a bit of a pickle. Just wanted to open this new kitchen and try to catch up later.

soop Tue 30-Jun-20 17:57:52

dragonfly flowers I trust that your temperature remains normal. The selfish attitude of some people makes my blood boil. Eldest son lives in the heart. of Leicester. How on earth will the area in which people are supposed to stay put be monitored?
Net petticoats did snag tights. I remember that in the heart of Northampton, a lady would sit all day in a shop window repairing tights. As skirts were fairly long, I always hoped that any ladders would remain out of sight.

The sun has decided to shine upon us. The islands have put in an appearance. During the grey, murky weather, the islands appear to do a vanishing act.

The computer that went to the man that fixes such things is beyond repair. We are therefore buying a fairly new updated machine for a mere £200. I'm cross. I would sooner pay for a gardener to spend a full day and a bit making our garden more manageable.

Log off time. Thinking of you all. Looking forward to tomorrow's catch-ups. smile moon

I am very envious of your hedgehog nannytopsy.DH Saw one on the drive but he seems to have made his home in next doors garden even though we are doing our best to tempt him to come and live here?

So glad that you had a successful visit to the breast clinic this morning ?

I am loving all the fashion memories.I remember the poppet beads and loved my hot pants!

Ann,I hope you have a lovely birthday meal,it sounds like every precaution is being taken to keep you safe.

We have been looking after Henry today. He doesn’t believe in sleep and DD is exhausted. At nine months old he has never slept for more than an hour or two at a time.I took him for a walk and he would only stop crying if I sang to him?he did eventually fall asleep!DGD has decided to stay with us for a few days old.At four years old she says she needs a break! So lovely having her here.

Have a good evening everyone and thinking of you all.

Susan56 Tue 30-Jun-20 18:15:04

Oh soop, sorrry your computer is beyond repair?I hate having to spend money replacing things, money that as you say could be spent on something you would like to spend it on.

Dragonfly, kitty and soop’s son stay safe.I hope having the extended lockdown may make some people rethink their actions but sadly there will always be those who think the rules don’t apply to them?

dragonfly46 Tue 30-Jun-20 18:20:19

Good news Nannytopsy.

How lovely to have your little one Susan.

Fortunately we have no reason at the moment to go into Leicester but I really feel for the poor people running businesses.

MawB Tue 30-Jun-20 19:49:28

I am so cross! ??????
What sort of lowlife steals a child’s scooter?
Flynn and some of his pre- school friends were together in the park after nursery today and when the mums and children broke up to go home on their scooters, Flynn and his little friend Fleur found their scooters had disappeared!
He doesn’t seem to have fully realised that it is gone - but he will tomorrow morning when he wants to scoot to pre-school again.
D is going to see if there are any outgrown scooters among his cousins or failing that I will buy him one preferably on eBay or their local mums FB /NCT “net” - but honestly ???

Susan56 Tue 30-Jun-20 20:18:33

Oh maw???how vile and how horrible for Flynn and Fleur to learn at such a young age that some lowlifes think they are entitled to take other people’s possessions.
I am cross with you???

MawB Tue 30-Jun-20 20:28:12

When I said I would buy him a second- or third- hand one I am not being mean - just realistic! I expect the few quid Flynn’s scooter will fetch will buy somebody some weed or crack or whatever young lowlifes are on these days. ???

Doodle Tue 30-Jun-20 20:51:02

Oh maw poor little Flynn. What a sad lesson for him and his little friend, so young. Thank goodness you will get him another. What rotten sort would steal a child’s scooter.

Bellanonna Tue 30-Jun-20 20:58:02

Some truly vile people around

Nannytopsy Tue 30-Jun-20 21:02:22

Maw what a horrible thing to happen. Soop I didn’t realise your son was actually in Leicester. Which part?

Susan56 Tue 30-Jun-20 22:16:53

Maw,I just reread my post. When I say I am cross with you,I mean I am joining you in your crossness not that I am cross with you?(just in case that’s how it read)!

MawB Tue 30-Jun-20 22:51:53

Susan I had guessed! grin

cornergran Tue 30-Jun-20 23:16:46

Furious for Flynn maw If he’s anything like our Littlest he’ll be an unhappy lad in the morning. You’re being realistic about the replacement, sensible way to approach it.

Sleep well everyone, stay safe, TOYA.

Lins1066 Wed 01-Jul-20 00:14:53

Maw very sorry about Flynn and Fleur's scooters. There are some horrible people about.
Good news about your scan Nannytopsy.
GrandmaFrench Glad that little Lupo is eating more and feeling better. A lesson learnt? Probably not, give him a gentle pat from me. I did chuckle when reading your Floridian friend's monikers for President T.
Hope Dexter is alright dragonfly.
I think I remember you too teetime, welcome again anyway.
A painful foot is keeping me awake so I will listen to something on iplayer for a bit and hopefully drop off. TOYA and stay safe.

Charleygirl5 Wed 01-Jul-20 13:35:43

MawB I hope you can find a reasonably priced scooter locally. Flynn and Fleur will be so upset when it sinks in that their favourite scooters have vanished.

I have been expecting thunderstorms but to date it has been dry. I have to venture out for a loaf of bread. Waitrose is my nearest so I will grace that store with my presence.
TOYA

soop Wed 01-Jul-20 14:06:35

Maw What is the world coming to? I despair sometimes - like hearing that Flynn and Fleur losing something precious to them and of little value to the thieves. I am angry on the children's behalf.

Lins have you injured your foot - or is it maybe arthritis or gout? Both very painful conditions.

Nannytopsy He lives close to Victoria Park. He's one of the many park runners.

Dear Susan - you are doing a sterling job taking little Henry out for walks and such. The continual fatigue of caring for an infant who doesn't need sleep is harrowing for the parent. Torben (when a wee one) would sleep providing we kept the pram moving. Stop, for a moment, and he was wide awake and yelling blue murder. Of course, thankfully, it is just a phase. smile

annodomini Wed 01-Jul-20 14:13:27

Don't you just love the conjunction of the alliterative names: Flynn and Fleur? They seem to go together so naturally. I do hope they both get replacement scooters. Such a dirty trick to walk off with children's scooters. It happens a lot with bikes. One of my GS's bikes was taken and never recovered. His dad got an identical one on line. DS keeps a bike in allegedly secure lock-up at Paddington Station for his commute across London and even that was stolen.

Lins1066 Wed 01-Jul-20 14:54:11

I had an operation on this foot last year soop due to osteoarthritis. I dropped a walking stick on it with the heavy handle landing plum on the op site. This was last Wednesday and it is still painful. I have a telephone consultation tomorrow with the doctor who did the operation. I am concerned because now my other foot is getting worse, though not sure what if anything can be done at the moment.
How are you? I will be thinking of you when you go to the hospital and hope everything goes well. You have suffered enough.

It is a far better day here than was forecast, still cloudy and breezy but milder. The washing is drying nicely.

GrannySomerset Wed 01-Jul-20 15:08:45

Theft is hardly new. DS’s pushchair (remember them?) was stolen from outside the local post office on Christmas Eve. We were quite hard up and decided not to replace it so from then on (aged 22 months) he had to walk everywhere. Over fifty years on he still holds it against me!

Grandmafrench Wed 01-Jul-20 15:35:05

Hello lovely ladies.

Missed yesterday because I was busy preparing for an evening with real friends in the garden! That sounds rude and ungrateful, but you'll know what I mean.

Shouldn't try to comment on all the interesting topics above mine, but I'll try and to keep it brief.

Maw your poor little Grandson. Nothing's sacred. As a proper Gran I know you'll be straight on to finding a replacement. In the meantime I shall reveal a hint of my dark side as far as injustice is concerned and just say that those who took it will hopefully get their just desserts.....use it and become involved in an accident involving teeth, perhaps? grin

Ludo is so much better, thank you Lins - what a stressful week for him and for us. I'm concerned about your foot. Poor you, Osteoarthritis is horrid and you never know when it will strike next. I suppose it was Sod's Law that you were going to drop something on that foot at some time. I sustained a broken ankle almost 50 years ago, skiing (and I need to add I was going uphill at the time). Don't ask, but you may laugh at this point. Six weeks later and seeing my shocking withered leg after the removal of the plaster, I sat on a table in the X ray dept of our local hospital whilst a young radiographer (or maybe a cleaning lady, I couldn't be sure?) pulled the machine over the site of the injury and put in a large X ray plate to hold the "photograph" to be taken by the machine. She didn't do it properly and the very heavy plate fell down onto my newly-healed foot! Maybe my face said it all. What did she do? Honestly? She actually ran away! (She did re-appear some time later with a more Senior person). No need for me to relate the conversation that followed!!!!! Good luck with your chat about your other foot.

Hope that little Henry soon gives up his insomniac craze, Susan. Or he's going to have to put on some weight and be prepared to push you and Mr Susan around in the pram so that you can get some shuteye!

Our very nice evening pretending that the good times were rolling again and we could sit in our garden with some old friends and catch up, ended as hot as it had started and with some small spots of rain suddenly appearing on the table. Most of the evening we had seen sheet lightning over the sea. The air was totally still and silent and the flashes were a bit like being close to a lighthouse. We put all the garden cushions away before going to bed. Middle of the night, there was no gap at all between the lightning flashes, but still silent. Then an explosion of noise and thunderclaps like bombs over the house and torrential rain for an hour or so. This morning, sunny and calm again and everything dry and did we dream that? We didn't because the dogs were in a total sulk and refused to go out first thing, in case the nasty loud noises came back and caught them unawares. (So they said.) Alright now, though.

To the currently quiet souls amongst us, Dreamkeeper, Izabella, Cherry etc., (the etc., know who they are), hope to see you on here soon. Be good to yourselves meanwhile.

DH in a friend's garden fixing his "unsafe" balustrade. I am about to eat a choc ice on a stick! Then more ironing. Of course.

Keep safe everyone. Massive and show-offy hugs to you, soop. I'll catch up with your fun and games later, I suspect. Hugs x

Grandmafrench Wed 01-Jul-20 15:38:51

Oh GrannyS, Christmas Eve? I'd have contacted every single person I knew until someone produced a spare one for you. x

soop Wed 01-Jul-20 17:19:37

Lins Ouch! I bet that hurt/hurts. Thankfully you'll be able to discuss this latest mishap with the doctor. Please keep us updated.

Grandmafrench Would it be a Magnum that you are treating yourself with? If so, I'm envy. We usually save ours for the weekend. The dark choc is our favourite.
Keep up the good work, Ludo. Gentle pat on the head.

I'm really tired. It's been one of those days. No major setbacks. Little in the way of stepping forwards. We all have one from time to time. Thank goodness we understand each other. Knowing I'm not alone in feeling like a wrung out dishcloth, helps enormously. wink

My love to you all. I shall return with a spring in my step at sometime tomorrow.

smile moon

Doodle Wed 01-Jul-20 19:43:38

Oh grandmafrench you mean we are not real friends. Am I a figment of my own imagination. Sob sob. ...only kidding. Hope you had a good time?
Glad Ludo is better. I love his name.
lins your poor foot. Hope it is ok.
soop you can be many things in life but a wrung out dishcloth isn’t one of them. You are a sprightly, vibrant, colourful bubbly person and even on a bad day a kind considerate friend to all. And on Argy days, a norty minx.
Take care, sleep well and revive those spirits, ?

Grandmafrench Wed 01-Jul-20 23:24:21

We'll always be real friends, Doodle - I just couldn't resist pointing out that I can have real friends in my garden but everyone else seems to be just "virtual" at the moment. Dry your tears ....you are definitely no figment. Nighty night x

Synonymous Thu 02-Jul-20 10:45:54

Creeps in to kitchen and places fresh crusty bread on the counter with golden butter, cheeses, home made pickles and chutney. Well, since nobody else is around and the sun is shining I will go out into the garden and pull out some weeds before coming back for a ploughman's lunch. Maybe someone will bring something appropriate to drink and we can all enjoy it together. I wonder if there are any raspberries or strawberries out there? Wanders off ... humming happily - so nice the rain has stopped . smile
