I am so very sorry. My computer has died on me. Am having to use MacS's and am in a bit of a pickle. Just wanted to open this new kitchen and try to catch up later.

Grandmafrench - I am sending you love and hugs. That experience of yours sounded terrible. Have a chill out time with some wine. wine

Sorry you had such an upsetting day Grandmafrench.?

Like many of you,I seem to be feeling more anxious since the easing of lockdown.I have still not been into our small market town.I went to an out of town shopping area with my daughter today.Lasted for one shop.Too many people without masks ,picking things up and putting them down again and not observing social distancing.

I am happy going to visit family and have family here but that’s about it.I do feel envious of people going out to eat and going on holiday but sadly am too anxious to do any of these things at the moment.

DH and I were really ill at the end of last year for a couple of months and I have to say I am scared stiff of us getting ill again so I think my subconscious is keeping me home and hopefully safe.

Granny gravy,I seem to think it’s your birthday today?Wishing you a happy, happy birthday?????

Soop,I am sorry poor MacS is suffering with his scalp.I hope that the consultant decides that a face to face appointment is needed or can suggest something your GP can do to help.

Charley,I feel your frustration. We waited a week for our plumber and a roofer to turn up.Both turned up at the same time yesterday and have assured us work will be done within the week.Watch this space........

Purplepixie,??you get good news of your friend.

Sending much love to all our absent kitcheners.

What a dreadful experience you had yesterday Grandmafrench. It is tangible how upset it has made you and I feel really sorry for that.
I can’t promise you things won’t change very much, very soon in the towns and cities. It’s awfully sad what it will do to commerce,as people are definitely staying away if possible.

I also know that you’re the first kindly person to reassure others who have had a perturbing day and so I want to say to you try and put the events of yesterday out of your mind. You can’t do anything about it, this Covid pandemic is out of all our control for now. We just have to hope we can eventually drive it out from amongst us. A vaccination will certainly send it packing, in time.

Concentrate on your little slice of heaven that is your home, your family, your garden with the pool, your pets, the swallows, having drinks and food with friends, and keeping in touch with family further away whenever possible. Also remember your gransnet friends who are always here to lend an ear and gather round you with encouraging, caring words when things are less than good.

Your sunny disposition will return. We all miss it ☀️ ?

Puzzler61 Tue 21-Jul-20 18:38:23

soop I hope MacS ‘s scalp and head can be treated and his skin will heal soon, poor dear man.
Meanwhile is he is keeping it covered? I know you don’t have as much sunshine up where you are, but whatever sun you have is quite strong at this time of year. ?

Evening all! ( Was that Dixon of Dock Green?)
Apart from ordering timber, I have done nothing today. How did that happen? Oh, I did pick up something, go to the post office and take the empties to the bottle bank ( yes ALL of them, in one go! blush). But I didn’t do what I was meant to and I am a bit cross with myself. Tomorrow I will do better, I promise. I am finding everything takes longer, perhaps just to eke out the jobs?
Just listening to a local director of public health who is voicing my own concerns about the autumn/winter and a return of the virus. Oh well, we shall see. Like Susan, I am happy to meet with the family but restaurants, pubs, holidays? Not sure yet.
Have a good evening - first of our French beans tonight!

Can someone tell me why a dozen seagulls should decide to hold a clog dancing competition on the flat dormer window in my bedroom at 5am this morning? That plus the outrageous support expressed in squawks for each other’s performances woke me:- and I DON’T APPRECIATE IT!

soop Wed 22-Jul-20 12:26:03

Good afternoon greeting dear peoples. So, what happened to my closing farewell last night? Who knows. One of life's buggerations, for sure.

Dear Grandmafrench So sorry to hear that your visit to that exotic location was not as pleasant as anticipated. I feel for you. The unseen virus has caused havoc. I'm with you. I'm not easily ruffled but, recently, I've felt overwhelmed by piddling setbacks - like not being able to find my phone without appearing to be a muddle-headed prat.

Grannygravy Very many happy birthday greetings to you. Have yourself a swell day. flowers sunshine cupcake wine grin

soop Wed 22-Jul-20 12:27:02

Galen Because they can. Simples! wink

Hello lovely Kitcheners! Thank you so much for your lovely supporting conments. Just wanted to say the week just keeps getting better. Saw car knock down one cyclist out of family of 3 this morning. Fortunately she was just very shocked. Wanted to say I’m away from here for a few days as our hilariously named ‘service provider’ are cutting off our WiFi whilst they attempt to improve the ‘service’? So, don’t think I’ve run off to join the Foreign Legion! I shall be back. Maybe that sounds more like a threat. Keep safe chaps.....til the technology is restored. Hugs x

soop Wed 22-Jul-20 13:12:57

Big hugs for you Grandmafrench. We shall miss you.

Doodle Wed 22-Jul-20 13:23:30

gramdmafrench keep safe and hope you are back with us ASAP. We will indeed miss you.
How is Hattie today maw?
galen no one describes things quite like you, clog dancing seagulls indeed grin How dare they !

Gelen we get the military two step from magpies here but at least they don't start too early. Purplepixie I understand from a friend that your painting was in watercolour. Respect! I am much too gung ho for that medium.

I have a 'seat' booked for an online zoom session on gait and balance for dementia . Should be useful for my increasingly frequent off piste forays - usually into the undergrowth - and rarely somewhere comfortable.

Lovely to see Hattie relazing (a cross between relaxing and lazing around)

I am now off to totter around the veg plot - and yes all the canes have soft toppers on them!

Have a good day everyone - and my thoughts are with Mr S's pate too. flowers

soop Wed 22-Jul-20 16:15:33

Izabella Totter safely. Us lot say so. smile

Hugs for Hattie (not forgetting Maw).

In fact, hugs for every one of you. I'm logging off a wee bit earlier today. Before I do, here is a photo of Mila splashing around...and loving every moment.

Until tomorrow smile moon

We are just back from dental check and hygienist magic and for some reason I was really worked up about it - didn’t sleep last night and settled to nothing this morning. It really is time I got back to some kind of normality or I will be incapable of proper living! Thinking for DH is an added strain, but I was ridiculously stressed. Good thing there are no more excitements this week apart from the supermarket trip.

Nannytopsy Wed 22-Jul-20 18:21:45

A difficult day GrannyS - you work hard as a carer I think. ?
I have been more productive today, starting with strawberry jam at 8am. Roland Rat (and family) still appearing in the garden, so the bait is out!
Neither Pimms nor G&T have arrived so I may have to get my own ! ?
Have a good evening!

GrannySomerset Wed 22-Jul-20 18:24:05

Thank you, NannyT - enjoy your well earned refreshment. I am cooking supper with the help of a chilled Sauvignon Blanc, which is helping no end!

Nannytopsy Wed 22-Jul-20 21:27:44

We are having the DGC to stay on Saturday night! First time since lock down - very exciting!!

Charleygirl5 Wed 22-Jul-20 22:00:39

Tara has been beside me several times telling me it is time for bed. It may be but the bed is not made up yet as I threw everything into the washing machine and have not got around to raking out another duvet etc. She has many other beds, she doies not need mine.

Mila is really enjoying herself. She is such a big girl now. Time flies.

It's good afternoon to all our dear kitcheners and highly regarded pets.

GrannySomerset I agree that you are a good, kind, caring lady. We are all feeling fragile right now. Throughout my life, I've encountered countless traumas of one kind or another - yet - the thought of a trip to the dentist is by far the worst experience that I can imagine. And that's before I reach the dentist's chair.

Nannytopsy LUCKY you. Having your grandchildren's visit to look forward to is a special bonus. Will you be making strawberry jam tarts for their tea? My late Nana's were very more-ish.

Charleygirl If Tara opts to sleep on your bed, so be it. She knows best. wink

The consultant dermatologist will be phoning in ten minutes time. MacS's scalp is in dire need of expert attention. Some of the nodules have grown outcrops. All caused by long time sun damage. His skin is fair. He now wears a hat at all times. Didn't so much in years gone by.

Freyer Thu 23-Jul-20 14:06:43

Hello I hope you don't mind an intrusion from a newbee. I haven't been on GN very long and am still finding my way round. I have been pointed to you for possibly a bit of help. I love to knit with alpaca wool and for a number of years have bought mail order from a lovely farm in Norfolk. The owners sadly died in the spring as the result of a road accident. The loss and covid19 has meant the farm has decided not to continue mail order supplies. I have tried a couple of on line sites but was disappointed with quality. The wool I bought from Jess was top quality and knitted beautifully. Do any ladies who knit know of a good site for alpaca wool or of any shop in my area. I live along the coast near lizard point. There will be two new additions to the clan soon who will be needing blankets. I am lost for a good alternative supplier.

annsixty Thu 23-Jul-20 14:17:47

Sorry to digress, but could Jess be our own Mommawolf who posted regularly on GN on the Good Morning thread and was sadly missed?

GrannyGravy13 Thu 23-Jul-20 14:26:44

Good afternoon soop and all, I am feeling very mellow/lazy today, might have something to do with the extra glass of vino last night bought for me by our local restaurant owner when he remembered it was my birthday.
Grannysomerset I chickened our this morning and cancelled my Monday morning dental appointment, I have a real fear of anything dentist related ???

Beautiful photo of Mila Soop.

NannaTopsy we have our five year old GS here at the moment he begged for a sleepover without his baby brother (I think that after 6 months the novelty of being a big brother has worn off)

TOYA ??

I think so Annsixty far too much of a coincidence to not be.

Charleygirl5 Thu 23-Jul-20 14:31:44

Welcome Freyer. Sorry I cannot help you because I am not a knitter but hopefully somebody else may be able to help you. If no joy here maybe start your own thread re this subject because surely somebody can help you.

ann I think you could possibly be correct. I cannot remember how Mommawolf died but it would be around the correct time.
