The American woman is at it again. Not satisfied with destroying tea she's turned her attention to scrambled eggs grin

rosecarmel where are the posts being mean about Americans, on this thread, rather than ones criticising the silliness of the videos?

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 09:34:17

FarNorth, someone tells the truth and your ignorant response is to ask if they are drunk?

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 09:35:21

Not prejudiced against Americans, but justifiably aghast at people who have the cheek to post so-called instructional videos on the internet when they know less about cooking than my dog.

Lona Mon 22-Jun-20 09:35:53

Of course Americans never say anything against the UK!

MaizieD Mon 22-Jun-20 09:36:50

I saw the British Tea video and thought it was a joke.

Even if it, and the 'egg' video aren't jokes, it's really not worth getting steamed up about.

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 09:38:29

Americanisms are not Americans - but a question of semantics. You need to appreciate the difference Rosecarmel and resist the temptation to react as if you personally are being criticised

Would you like us to desist from criticising that Paper marks-tanned oaf the Donald too? (No chance)

FarNorth Mon 22-Jun-20 09:38:32

Elegran I have always favoured salt-not-sugar for porridge and believed all sensible Scots did too.
Then I got a job in a care home in the Scottish Highlands and discovered that almost all the elderly people there liked sugar on their porridge. shock

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 09:39:22

“Permanent-tanned” not what my iPad thought I meant!

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 09:39:54

It happens on this site all too often -- as though it were normal-

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 09:40:31

It still won’t do it!
“Perma-tanned”

FarNorth Mon 22-Jun-20 09:43:03

rosecarmel never mind, soon it will be July 4 the day when Americans celebrate that they are nothing to do with the UK.
And some in the UK celebrate that too. smile

Elegran Mon 22-Jun-20 09:46:08

FarNorth I think elderly people in care homes in general must have some kind of sugar deprivation syndrome, so many of them put pounds of sugar in their tea and love the most nauseatingly sweet and sickly cakes! Memories of childhood sweet treats?

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 09:50:31

You have no idea how much you collectively sound like white supremacist Donald Trump-

Witzend Mon 22-Jun-20 09:52:45

This is surely meant to be a joke, albeit a very silly one. Presumably she’s just after YouTube hits, which is why I’m not going to watch the egg one - the tea was enough!

I’m tempted to make a rejoinder about American restaurant/cafe tea, which I was only daft enough to order once.
Put some vaguely hot water in a cup and serve to the customer with a teabag on the side. ?

Lucca Mon 22-Jun-20 09:53:19

Surely this video is a wind up? She said, again.
Rose Carmel has overreacted a tad (understatement of the day) but to be fair there is quite a lot of “awful American expression”. “It’s something that’s come from America, I suppose “ comments on GN.
Should I duck ?

BlueBelle Mon 22-Jun-20 09:55:21

Are you a Trump Supporter Rosecarmel as you seem to be mimicking his hissy fits
I never realised GN was anti American but I have seen lots of anti Trump posts, is that where this has come from? also lots of anti chlorinated chicken etc etc have you wrongly interpreted these fears and dislikes as ‘anti American’ maybe?

Just take things easy getting so angry isn’t good it will only escalate into bad feeling All round by all means tackle any anti Americanism if it’s just that but if it’s about a particular thing like telling us how to make a cup of tea don’t generalise it into a full on war

Witzend Mon 22-Jun-20 10:01:03

@Elegran, I was surprised when my elderly mother started wanting sugar in her tea again, having not had it for many years. But she had dementia, and preferring sweet things is apparently a feature of the disease.
Residents in her dementia care home were given several small glasses of weak fruit squash throughout the day. A relative once complained that it should be plain water, so staff had to explain that it was no use giving them water if they weren’t going to drink it - the aim was just to get them drinking enough of whatever fluid.

MawB Mon 22-Jun-20 10:01:26

rosecarmel

You have no idea how much you collectively sound like white supremacist Donald Trump-

That is truly ridiculous.

At the risk of descending into “tit for tat “ - this reaction is Trump through and through!

End of.

vampirequeen Mon 22-Jun-20 10:04:42

Rosecarmel…..why are you so aggressive about this? The woman, who happens to be American, chooses to put this and many other things about British food on line. She's expecting a reaction. The more views she gets the more money she earns so she puts things out that are bound to get responses. I didn't post it because she's American. I posted it because it's amusing. And as for you suggesting that we sound like Trump ….well that's just insulting.

If the American government or an American citizen does something that I agree/don't agree with or amuses I will continue to post about it. That doesn't make me anti-American.

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 10:06:15

It isn't ridiculous, it's spot on- And considering your history, much doubt it will be the end of!

vampirequeen Mon 22-Jun-20 10:10:58

My history or the history of the UK? Are you American? You seem to have a bee in your bonnet for no good reason that I can see. Would you like to explain why I'm being anti-American and how that makes me a racist like Donald Trump?

FarNorth Mon 22-Jun-20 10:12:03

Americans are not being oppressed by the British, or by anyone else, so confused

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 10:17:41

You do sound like Trump, bagging on and insulting with abandon, as you say, because you will continue to-

rosecarmel Mon 22-Jun-20 10:19:34

And continuing to makes you very anti-American-

vampirequeen Mon 22-Jun-20 10:29:00

I'm lost here. Trump is an American and the American president. Why am I allowed to say negative things about him without being anti-American? If I am allowed to be negative about him then why can't I comment about other Americans? Surely your negative attitude to Donald Trump (an American) makes you anti-American.
