How will we cope?

Jane10 Wed 24-Jun-20 10:16:10

Ooh I've 'given myself a good shake' and 'got over myself' but I'm still laughing! Thanks kittylester!

^Some of the posters here need to give themselves a good shake.^

And some need to get over themselves.

Well said merlotgran

Posters still don't seem to understand.

It's sad for the staff at Shoezone who will lose their jobs so if loyal customers wish to start their own thread because they don't understand and object to this one, then please do.

It's not really anything to do with that at all.

*And some need to get over themselves*

Yes. That too.

Are you a new poster BibiSarah?
If so, welcome.

Please look out for discussions about school uniforms in August, they could be of interest.

I have often walked in, walked round and back out again from our local store _ staff more interested on chatting amongst themselves or to friends and even though the store had a re fit about 12 months ago but there is still the overiding stink of rubber.
That will leave us with 2 shoe shops in my town - a tiny Clarks and an independent as well as Debenhams, Primark and Peacocks - reckon I'll just go barefoot!

Callistemon Wed 24-Jun-20 10:24:14

We haven't got any shoe shops at all now in our town.

Callistemon Wed 24-Jun-20 10:24:44

Not that we ever had a Shoezone in the first place.

kittylester Wed 24-Jun-20 10:30:01

This thread is not really about Shoe Zone!!

*No-one is sneering or being snooty at all*

Having the back story explained does absolutely nothing to make the rather ugly posts in this thread come across any better.

Some of the posters here need to give themselves a good shake.

Which rather ugly posts do you take exception to?
(Other than the one about posters needing to give themselves a good shake grin)

It seems Shoe Zone comes in the same category as Spam and Corned Beef did a few weeks ago?? I’ve got to say all these are fine with me and will miss S Z. if they go.
Even worse I quite like Fray Bentos steak pieS which my husband calls gravy pies due to the lack of meat.
We’re all different and don’t need to be snobbish.???

Lexisgranny Wed 24-Jun-20 10:46:10

Where have all the shoe shops gone, why suddenly are they rare as hen’s teeth?
I have “difficult” feet following two operations. In fact, shape wise, large sardine tins with a strap would be ideal. However, comfort is my priority and my choice is very limited, the usual “comfort shoes” are often no use to me. I have boots from Primark and some from an independent shop whose prices were so high I had no business in there in the first place. Desperation calls for desperate purchases. Nb the ones from Primark are the most comfortable I have ever had.

Callistemon Wed 24-Jun-20 11:03:51

Lexisgranny have you tried DB Shoes online? I think hey have a sale on at the moment.

They don't, however, sell daps sad

Jane10 Wed 24-Jun-20 11:19:19

Callistemon grin

Oldwoman70 Wed 24-Jun-20 11:22:40

Off topic but the use of the word daps to describe plimsolls is mainly used in the West Country and is thought to have derived from the fact they were made by Dunlop Athletic Plimsolls

travelsafar Wed 24-Jun-20 11:28:04

I have a SZ in the town where i live and just before the schools start back it is full of mums and dads kitting out their children. The shoes are fashionable and cheap enough to replace every couple of months as the kids feet grow. Being snobbish about this store really is not nice. sad As others have said not everyone has lots of money and if you have 2 or 3 children it makes sense to me.

Argh. Please be aware that the references to Shoezone is an in joke shared by many Grans. Try searching previous threads on the topic to understand our reactions.

I`m going down on one knee.

What does that mean?

Yes, the posts do sound sneery but then there is often some in joke going on or a certain group that always back each other up whatever the subject, maybe they are all one person.

Grannybags Wed 24-Jun-20 12:33:36

This thread is making me laugh almost more than the original ones!

Certainly 'walls banging brick head against'! ??

Squiffy Wed 24-Jun-20 12:44:22

For those who think that there is snobbery on this thread, here is a link to what is being referred to, which should explain why some of the comments on here seem uncaring and sniffy:

I shall probably get ticked off by HQ for posting it, but it seems worth the risk so that other posters don't feel excluded and can understand why the comments have been made!

Happy days! gringrin

Nanof3 Wed 24-Jun-20 12:50:22

My husband and son both have very wide feet and Shoezone is the only shop that stock wide fitting mens shoes that we have found so we will miss them. Clarkes and others have become more and more narrow over the last few years and even their ladies shoes are uncomfortable.

varian Wed 24-Jun-20 12:55:46

Last year I went shopping for shoes and came home with two pairs- one pair from Shoezone (first time I'd been in) and one pair from Clarks, which cost five times as much.

When I got home and tried each pair on to practice walking around the house, I found the Clarks pair were rubbing my heel and so I returned them the next day. The pair from Shoezone were so blissfully comfortable that I bought another identical pair.

Kittye Wed 24-Jun-20 13:08:27

Didn’t mean to cause any offence.? just think the shop has a chemical smell. I’ve no problem buying cheap shoes. I wouldn’t know about the smell if I hadn’t been looking in the shop to begin with

No-one's backing anyone up! As has been explained, several times on here, a while back there were regular threads as the school holidays began, about a so-called 'gran' buying DGC's plimsolls and ugg boots in Shoe Zone. The clue is in the underlined bit. Lots of us grans used to join in and have a bit of fun with the poster(s), but it didn't seem to put them off. Every school holiday they'd be back. And it was always Shoe Zone.

No one on here is sneering!!! It's a joke!!! <off to find a good strong brick wall>

rosenoir Wed 24-Jun-20 13:22:28

Squiffy onesies and shoezone were referenced before then, I started to look where it originated and found it in 2016 but even that was about a previous thread.

It was interesting reading, the same people saying the same thing for at least the last 4 years.

It seems some people are on here all day everyday, the half a dozen people that dominate this forum all agree with everything each says, they seem to have very similar homes and gardens, shown in posted pics and even buy their clothes from the same places.
