What was the first single you purchased

I'm singing all of these as I'm going through the list. 'Young Girl' is a real classic and a favourite of mine.
The only one I don't know is 'Elusive Butterfly'
The first record I bought was 'I Only Want to Be with You' by Dusty Springfield. 1964. I would have been 9 at the time.
I didn't have a record player but my brother did. It was one of those you could stack about 6 records on at a time under the arm.

Sunday Afternoon by the Kinks. And, yes, I too know all the words to “Band of Gold”. Similarly with “Build me up Buttercup” by The Equals. Those were the days!

My first album was Nicely Out of Tune by Lindisfarne also bought in 1971.
By which time I had left the Sweet behind, but I still love Lindisfarne and the LP is in a box in our attic, nearly 50 years later. ??

Oh yes - “Young Girl” - gosh I loved that song. I didn’t have the record but always turned the sound up on my “tranny” when it came on. Donny Osmond “Puppy Love” - I think I’m going to tune into Spotify and reminisce!!!

Any one else, when reading through these songs, able to immediately remember the lyrics and can sing some, if not all of the songs mentioned? I've forgotten loads of things but the minute the song is mentioned, it's there, in your mind, as fresh as when you first heard it.

All these lovely songs. I'd forgotten about many of them, including Elusive Butterfly which is lovely.

I can remember most of them. Everley Brothers (Cathy's Clown), Ricky Nelson (Hello Mary-Lou), Dusty Springfield (I only want to be with you).
I had Terry by Twinkle. It may still be in the attic - or is that another thread?
I had Come Outside by Mike Sarne and Wendy Richard. I knew Mike's brother so he seemed like family.

We used to buy ex-juke box records which had no centre so had to balance them carefully on the turn table.

PS mine was by Guy Mitchell, I was in love......

Loved the Stones rather than the Beatles when I was a bit older and also remember having an LP of the Batchelors from my dad because he liked them as well . Happy Days

First one i bought with my own money was Blondie's Union city blues. First one i ever received was Teddy bears picnic

Mine was the Hippy Hippy Shake by the Swinging Blue Jeans. I think it was about 1964. I can't remember the cost 2s and 6d maybe? Played it on a little Dansette record player. Brilliant, happy times.

Mine was Suspicious Minds, by Elvis. My dad wasn't very impressed with my choice - he liked classical music, and folk. So do I now, but I still think 60's and 70's music is the best. Lovely memories.

Mine was FBI by the Shadows. I thought Hank was so cool ? I must have been 12 at the time.
I think it was 6/3d from Neild & Hardy in Stockport.
