How do you use your kitchen?

Wow that’s a big kitchen.mine is about 9 ft square not big enough for a table, it looks out over the cul de sac and gets the morning sun, it’s newly fitted out so I don’t mind being in there, it is just a functional kitchen.

Define 'not huge'! ?? Half my flat would fit in your kitchen. (Said kindly, by the way.) I have a small, narrow kitchen but have managed to fit in a little table, covered with a green spotted oilcloth, and as I don't like cooking the room is mostly used for messy play with grandchildren. As a child my mum would shoo me out of the kitchen and say, 'Go and paint with your father.' Ha ha. He was an artist. So I still think kitchens are for arty stuff. Takes all sorts...... ?

Our kitchen is approx. 24' x 12' . We have a large-ish table, but only 2 chairs, which we always use for breakfast.
I also use the table for spreading out any paperwork that needs sorting.
It gets the morning sun and looks out over the back garden, but I would love a french door that could access the garden directly, but other than that, we don't stay in there for long.

I spend most of my day in the kitchen. I have a large centre island with very comfy bar stalls . I watch tv or set up iPad and catch up on admin and since lockdown this is where I FaceTime friends and family.

I have skylights at one end and love sitting looking at night sky or listening to the rain, it is also the only downstairs room looking over the front garden and I love people watching through my trees.

My kitchen is old but perfectly functional I have a table and 4 chairs which sits in front of french doors opening onto the patio and garden also a window which overlooks the driveway, I spend a lot of time in there just watching the birds, eating, cooking, reading or with my iPad catching up with news and family.

Our kitchen is about 24’ x 12’ and we have a large dining table and chairs, a dresser and a sideboard in one half and the kitchen units in the other half. So we cook and eat our meals in it. We also have a small television in there for watching the news and a music centre, as we often listen to music when we are eating our supper.

Our cats baskets are kept there and that’s where they sleep at night.

We have our washing machine etc in a small utility room, which is adjacent. Our downstairs loo is also adjacent.

We still use our living room quite a lot throughout the day, when we’re both at home.

I have a large kitchen but only use it for cooking.

Tiny U shaped kitchen in Wales so only cooking done in there, but lots of it! Here in Spain, a lot bigger but less cooking done as we eat out more!

Strangely before we remodelled our kitchen many years ago we had a table and chairs in it and would eat out there. Now we have more cupboards and a pull out table so the kitchen is only used for cooking except when the GC want to paint!

At my last two houses we were lucky enough to have enough room in the kitchens to have a table and chairs (albeit rather a squeeze in the latter) but having downsized my kitchen is sadly nowhere near large enough to sit in. It's about 7' by 12' - I'll always hanker after my previous larger sunny kitchen.
It's just used for cooking so the table is in the lounge/diner. I made the best of it by getting new units to my taste.

The kitchen is roughly 9 x 9 so mostly only foody things going on. It’s painted a green colour that I love.

I have a kitchen diner so use it to eat in as well as cook.

Eat in there cook in there enjoy the evening sun In there yes we use it quite a lot.

Do others find that people congregate in their kitchens?

My kitchen is about 12 feet square. It looks easy so gets the morning sun. The window looks out over the garden and beyond to the town foot and farmland.
We have a small kitchen table and four chairs. I use it for cooking, and when we are by ourselves we eat in there too.

We have a small kitchen, but the door opens into our conservatory so we eat out there in the Summer, and the kitchen windows open right out, so when the GCs were little I could keep an eye on them whilst getting the food ready.
Both rooms overlook the back garden so at least we have a view.
The dining room is next door to the kitchen, I wish when we moved in, 23 years ago, that we had knocked through, but I was ill at the time and couldn’t cope with even more walls being knocked down.

Kitchen/diner is about 10' x 18' with the usual units/sink/cooker at one end and a dining table and 4 chairs at the other. French windows open out from the dining end, onto the garden and patio. This part of the house gets the sun all morning until about 11 o'clock and so it's lovely to be able to have the French doors open wide whilst eating breakfast. When the weather is fine, this is the room that I use most simply because it's the sunniest and most pleasant room to be in.

Love my kitchen - it’s about 16 ft x 10 ft and has a rectangular rustic pine table for 4 to 6 people, although there’s only the 2 of us. Spend lots of time in the kitchen as always have a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle on the go since 23 March. Have to share the table with that when eating down one of the table! Kitchen overlooks small garden (french doors). Been here 5 years and kitchen fave room. At previous house had a 9 ft x 9 ft kitchen not big enough to eat in. Wish we’d have had this larger kitchen when daughter was a child as a larger kitchen a far more sociable room and she could have sat at the table, playing or doing homework, whilst I was cooking. Ah well, hopefully grandchildren can do that occasionally, when we get back to “normal”!

Ours is a small galley kitchen. No chance of people congregating in there! When two of us are in there, it's crowded. Great to keep clean though.

In the past, cooking was done on an open fire, so it was natural to put chairs beside the fireplace and the kitchen tended to be the room where everyone congregated.
My kitchen is small, about 9' square, but I have a table and chairs. However, I usually eat with a tray on my lap in the sitting-room, and I have my sewing machine on the table and do my sewing in the kitchen (because the light is so good).

my kitchen is 9feet by 11 feet plus a nine foot long galley with the cooker and sink. The WM is beside the shower room. I use the main kitchen mainly for walking through to get to the back of the house, as I eat beside the computer or TV

Do others find that people congregate in their kitchens?

Absolutely kitty whether it’s friends or family round for BBQ, Christmas or any other reason I have a full kitchen and find myself shooing people out into the garden or elsewhere in the house ??

I have a very small kitchen which is used for cooking and laundry (Kirsty would be disgusted). Advantages: everything close to hand; disadvantages: everything has to be carried through to the dining room to eat.
My mother had a large kitchen but it was very badly planned and most inconvenient, but there was space for a table and chairs.
