M? Meghan has gone from the scene, so a good time for Kate to look stylish.

Looking forward to seeing Diana programmes on next week
(121 Posts)I’ve just noticed there are three programmes coming on next wed thurs, and fri, about Diana, on channel 5, as I was a great fan I will be tuning in, but have to say I will mute the interview with Paul Burrell having his say! Will anyone else be watching it?
Anniebach
She wanted to marry Charles, she wanted to be Princess of
Wales, when he and her elder sister broke up Diana said
‘She wasn’t right for him’,
She knew what lay ahead, she had lived at Sandringham, holidayed at Balmoral, The Queen is godmother to Charles
Spencer.
William wanted to escort the coffin so Harry went because his
brother went.
Anniebach do you not agree it was tragic that she died so young ? Does no blame lie with Charles for the failed marriage ? She made mistakes obviously but she’s not alone in that and she wasn’t all bad surely. Sorry but I am still at a loss to under stand the harsh attitude (From quite a few posters )towards her, especially as she died so tragically.
I've never heard much about whether Diana had even a school girl crush on someone, let alone if she had any dates before PC
Which makes me wonder about her expectations of the marriage.
What she knew of the relationship between C and C? Because I understood it was an open secret in her circle.
But knowing and realising the true implications are quite different.
I do really disliked the way the usual criticism of promiscuity and madness are levelled at her.
It has always been that way if someone wants to attack a woman.
In truth Camilla was far more promiscuous (IF it matters - and it did in back then) and no one turned a hair when she and PC got back together.
I'm just glad W look so happy and at ease with his life and marriage.
After all that turmoil.
Lucca I think her death was a tragedy and was sad she died so young. Do we ignore the hurt she caused , her manipulation of the media ? Did you read her book ?
I thought her comments on her visit to the place where Barry
Manakee’s ashes were scattered were vicious, what of his widow?
To say publicly that Tiggy had an abortion, which was a lie, because she was jealous of the fact her children loved Tiggy,
She was a very troubled person, I doubt she would have been
happy with any man .
There are usually faults on both sides in a broken marriage, I
don’t think Charles could cope with her many problems, and she couldn’t cope with not having his attention 24 hours a
day.
For me the villain in this tragedy was Johnnie Spencer, he wanted one of his daughters to be Princess of Wales, the relationship between Charles and his second daughter ended
and Diana was next in line, I really believe she married Charles to please her father.
Your last post makes sense Anniebach
Especially the last paragraph. I didn't know it was on record that he felt that way.
Although I had heard her gran and the QM were both in favour of the match, and possibly engi eered a meeting between D and PC?
I prefer the ones on Anne.
Whatever negative comments people want to level at Diana, there is no denying that she lit up a room as soon as she walked into it. She was radiant. And she did a great deal of good. She used her status to raise awareness of things the Royal Family had never been involved with : Aids, Leprosy, homelessness. She made William and Harry aware of life outside the palace walls, William said so himself.
She was very young and very inexperienced. She was not a worldly 19 year old.
Both Charles and Diana had, in different ways, been abandoned by their mothers. Both needed mothering but neither could give it to the other. Their marriage would never have worked. Charles married because time was moving on and his father told him he had to. He had to find someone who was prepared to take on life in the RF.
Sparklefizz. What a refreshing post !
Agree with your post sparkle and continuing your last sentence .... that whomever he married should be ‘tidy’ a quaint expression which needs no explanation.

Very true Sparklefizz
Good post, Sparklefizz
However, can I just say that I think it's a popular misconception that Charles was abandoned by his mother and people probably base that on that one photograph where she didn't rush to hug him on her return from an overseas tour. I expect he got hugs when they were in the privacy of their own home. Formality was for the public.
Some unseen old home movies showing very young Charles and Anne with their parents were recently shown and they were having a wonderful time, playing, larking around, enjoying each others' company.
Of course they wouldn't have spent as much time with their parents as many children but the quality time they did have looked both relaxed and fun.
Again ? Phillip did not tell Charles he had to marry Diana,
The press were chasing Diana and Phillip told Charles to make
up his mind because it wasn’t fair on Diana ,
Both Charles and Diana wanted out of the marriage, if Charles
had there would have been uproar in the media and with the
public, if Diana had her fathers plotting and planning were ruined, and she was desperate to please her father.
This woman as a child knew she was a disappointment for her
father because he was desperate for a son. Little wonder she
and her sister who had dated Charles suffered bulimia when very young .
Why did Lady Fermoy speak in favour of her son in law having custody of the children, against her own daughter
who had left her husband because he was a bully.
The only person who spoke of ‘being tidy’ was Diana, did her
father tell her this ? She said ‘I just knew I had to be tidy ‘
Take your pick - her father or a spirit from another world .
Goodness me you know such a lot about the inner workings of the Windsors and Spencers. I’ll leave it there then.
Her stepmother Raine Spencer may have told her so, or her stepgrandmother Barbara Cartland. I don't doubt it made both of them very happy that both sisters had attracted Royal attention and that one of them became Princess of Wales.
All this doesn't alter the fact that Diana's story has been done to death ( no pun intended) and I shan't be watching it yet again. Nothing new will come out and if it does it will be all over the papers.
Thanks Lucca, silver, Nams and*Calli*.
Annie Phillip did not tell Charles he had to marry Diana,
Annie -if you read my post correctly, I said C was told he had to find someone who was prepared to take on life in the RF.
How interesting all these negative comments. Personally, on the day Diana married PC, I believed it would not last so no surprise when the inevitable happened. What I would say, is that whatever you may think of her did she really deserve what she got. A nineteen-year-old girl, with little or no experience of life, used as a broodmare. How many of us would believe it acceptable for our own daughters? My view, what PC did was despicable. As for the woman involved with him, well they deserve one another.
I am glad for them that they have each other after their broken
marriages.
And comparing her with a horse is caring !
Sorry Sparklefizz
sparklingsilver what of the wives of the men Diana had
affairs with ?
I will TrendyNannie6. I watch anything royal, and really Im not a monarchist at all, so I cant explain why. Nosiness Im thinking!
Good point Anniebach! as one who suffered by marriage to a womaniser!
Annie ^what of the wives of the men Diana had
affairs with ?^
Why blame only Diana? Did those men have no say in the matter?
I haven't read all the posts but one or two I have read refer to Catherine, Diana and Megan as being "too thin". Imagine the uproar if you said someone was "too fat". In this politically correct age, referring to someone's size if they are obese risks you being shot down in flames. Not, it seems, if you say someone is too thin...
