Very sad news for the 14,000 people who worked there of course.

But did you shop there? I think I went in twice at the Trafford Centre in the last 12 months.

Many years ago, I found Debenhams to be very old-fashioned. Even though I've lived walking distance from one for over a decade, I think I've been in 3 times, and found nothing to change my initial opinion.

I agree with some of the other posters who said that it was always very difficult to find a member of staff to help at Debenhams, if it was needed. A friend of mine said the same. This always put me off a bit. When my daughter was little, 20 odd years ago, we liked the childrens’’ clothing ranges there, but I haven’t bought anything for myself at Debenhams, just the odd small household item. Very sad the way the department stores are going - and even more sad that jobs are being lost.

When we had three of the major department stores going strong in our city centre we thought that the writing was on the wall for our only remaining independent family store. Now all the ‘names’ have gone to the wall except John Lewis - and it was touch and go for them recently - but the family run store, which has been there for over a hundred years, is still going strong and a pleasure to shop in. It has moved with the times with quality merchandise and is always well patronised. Makes you think.

I've not been in an actual Debenhams store for well over a year. I have shopped on line quite often as I find their website easier to use than the store.
I used to get lost in the Glasgow store and could never find my way out. I always ended up in the menswear department. It just felt chaotic and was always way too hot.

Hope they keep the website though.

I have used it on line for a long time and will miss it, being disabled I don't really do much in store shopping. I liked Debenhams and their prices were competitive. I hope they keep their online presence.

I feel exactly the same about Debenhams Lucca They lost their way many years ago, I didn't even bother going in for the last few years before I left UK.
As you say though its a shame for all the staff.
