sixities sixties

At the minute my cheer up music is a cd of hits recorded in the sixities by the French singer Francoise Hardy.
It takes me right back. I feel young again. I don't understand all the lyrics but I can sing some of them.

You can listen to it on youtube Soda there are many versions.
The old folk band pentangle ( pentacle?) if you like the dialect and the Andrew Byrd version if you don’t.There are other versions as well.
I also like Irish folk music, Danu are a good band, songs in Gaelic and in English.

I remember the Lyke Wake Walk but not the dirge lemongrove

I like anything from Les Mis, love that musical.

Just remembered the actual name of the Yorkshire folk song,
It’s The Lyke Wake Dirge.

At the wedding we were went to back in February of this year, my Godson needed a lift to the florist to collect the the buttonhole sprays for the gentlemen. Nosing around, he switched on the radio, the CD was engaged and as it came towards the end, the finale struck up, it was a gallop.

He recognised it instantly, he called it the cancan song. He was listening to Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld.

I even enjoy melancholy music ( Lord L calls it dreary) ?
Such as This Ane /Ain Night ( very old Yorkshire dialect funeral dirge) ......sorry to bring the mood down? but I think it’s rather beautiful and spooky.

I listen to music most of the time, and in any mood.Music with a fast beat to get household chores done, and music to relax to, mainly classical or opera when doing crosswords or when we just sit with a glass of something. What a sad world it would be without music, and aren’t we lucky to have what we want to hear at the touch of a button.

Thanks Fennel, those are great, so uplifting. I am listening to some old sixties music at the moment, cheering me up no end. ?

Discogran don't worry -I had a reply prepared and lost it.
I SO agree with you - music is my last resort when I'm feeling down. This one from Abba expresses it well

I have a few favourites - some to cheer me up and some to calm me down. Best cheerup for me is this

And one for pure calm

And then there are all our personal tunes and songs from stages in our lives, sad or happy.

First I was afraid, I was petrified........

I don't know about you, but if I feel a bit down in the dumps I put some music on and have a sing (and sometimes a dance).
My karaoke song is either I will Survive or Dancing Queen (tiddly) or Yellow Submarine (sloshed).
What's yours?
