Good morning all from a very wet and dull mid-Notts. We had the much-awaited thunderstorm last night with torrential rain. I, for one, am pleased the weather is fresher. DD1 is a nurse and I know it's been a struggle for her in the tropical conditions we have had of late. Bedding to change to today and other than that will see what the day brings. Hope everyone has the best day possible and please stay safe x

Well I use scunnered all the time! It's a brilliant word, describes exactly how I feel today!!!! grin
My mother, from Central Scotland used it all the time.
Her other favourite was wabbit, I feel like that too. I've turned into my mother. ??

My banking disaster was caused by the bank, changing security settings, just as I was paying online!!! ?
However, a lovely young lady sorted it all out, thank goodness. smile

Grandmabatty Mon 17-Aug-20 09:51:07

Taichinan I am Scottish and use many Scots words to describe how I feel. I don't know how far they travel though.

Urmstongran Mon 17-Aug-20 09:35:22

A light tan is lovely. It looks summery. A dark mahogany tan is so ageing - many of the senior citizens out here have lines on top of their wrinkles! I think they hark back to days when the mindset was a deep tan was the sign of a great holiday.
?

Sounds as though you had fun last night dogsmother! You’re paying the price this morning but bet you had a blast!

EllanVannin Mon 17-Aug-20 09:27:39

Good Morning All. x
Damp and dreary which is forecast for the rest of the week presumably. Is this the end of the summer ? sad Even the darker nights are noticeable now.

Some hoovering and general cleaning to be done. Whether D will manage to call in today I don't know, I'm waiting to hear how the children enjoyed their day out in Blackpool on Saturday.

I enjoyed my chicken dinner yesterday, with all the trimmings of course but overdid the sprouts a bit as I woke up at 10 to 2 this morning with the rumbles grin . It could also have been the Double Raspberry Magnum which I devoured, it was delicious and recommendable. Anyway, I had a mint and all was well.

A friend is going to go on Facebook to try and solve the screaming that went on the other night. A couple I spoke to hadn't heard anything. What ? It would have wakened the dead ! So I hope she discovers something or I'll keep wondering. Can't help worrying -- being nosey--.

Have a good day those of you who are out and about visiting and thoughts to those who aren't up to it x

Stay safe and well everyone xx

Back again after reading the thread!!!

How unsettling for you kittylester please do not let one silly man stop you enjoying your home and garden.

Enjoy your time with your family brook2704

Urmstongran I know what you mean about the madge tan it is not a good look ?

Gelisajams Mon 17-Aug-20 09:15:11

Good morning from a damp Morecambe Bay. Last week was too hot, this week looks too wet! There’s no pleasing me, but it does make working as a gardener difficult!
Take care and stay safe everyone ?

Taichinan Mon 17-Aug-20 09:11:02

How I love that word "scunnered", "Grandmabatty". I haven't heard that used for a while. Is it used all over, I wonder, or is it another of those good old Scots words?

Grandmafrench Mon 17-Aug-20 09:05:47

Good Morning everyone from our little corner of sun-soaked paradise. ??

Some much-needed cutting back of jasmine and oleander this morning. It grows like lightning and I’m conscious of being slapped in the eye by long tendrils of jasmine each time I go near the garage door, so I shall steel myself against the sun with a large hat and give it my best shot ..... until coffee time. Wish it didn’t make such a sticky mess when I cut it : I expect the Karcher will then be necessary to clean it off the tiles when I’m done.

What a very unsettling experience Kitty. Summer days do bring out the worst in opportunists - the type that look for open windows and doors and a quiet moment. If you don’t have a dog to warn you, maybe you need a little (security) camera - just in case?

Hope you have a truly happy break Brook, you must be very excited. Just visiting an airport is enough for me, but I so love going to arrivals to meet people.

Please don’t ‘do a Madge’, Urms - although switch on the telly and one can often see a ‘celebrity’ of similar colour. My Aunt used to use gravy browning in war time when stockings were often unobtainable. She also used to sharpen her eyebrow pencil to draw a line up the back of each leg!! Hilarious, but I suppose far funnier ideas are mooted these days for all sorts of things - and nothing to do with shortages.

9am here and high time I got on with my shrub clipping. I shall think cool and enjoy a well-earned swim when I’m done.

Have a good day everyone, especially if out and abouting. We need to carefully as possible try to get the important bits of our lives back whilst we try to batter Covid. Good wishes for better times, better health and better days to come.

Take care and, as always, please keep safe whatever you’re doing.

Hugs from ??

Good morning all. I smiled at the "bright grey" description of your morning Mick - it's the same here in the Angus coast. It's chilly though so when it decides to return I shall welcome the sun with open arms. Had a lovely afternoon with DD and two DGDs yesterday. It's a 90 minute drive each way, but so worth it. I took some of the giant strawberry tarts from our local fruit farm. Each pastry case contains cream with one large strawberry in the middle and half strawbs arranged round it to form a pyramid with the whole lot then generously covered with that lovely gooey sticky strawberry syrup. Oooh, I'm reliving every mouthful! We had a lovely nattery time and I heard all about their holiday with the New Man. It sounded fun and a great success. Nothing much happening here today - I find I now need a quiet day to follow each busy day. I'm ashamed to say I really rather enjoy them! EllanVannin thank you for putting your whole sad story together. What a tragedy for you all. I hope in time to come WAY can be a support for your DGD,. As a support group it is second to none. Love and hugs to you, and all others going through hard times and I hope the light at the end of your tunnel will shine through soon. ???

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

gillybob Mon 17-Aug-20 08:49:59

Good morning from the NE coast where we have another day of rotten weather to go with the rotten summer we’ve had so far. Torrential rain all night long and set to continue all day too.

I’m off to “that place” in about 15 minutes to begin another wonderful week of joy........ wishing it was Thursday instead of my worst day of the week and thinking that I’ve got another 9 and a half years of this lying ahead ? .

Thinking of our missing friends and praying for some sunshine

Love Gillybob x

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. It’s a cloudy start and a late one for me.

You could be cheeky and use the top box for storage while it’s in your garage Greyduster.

I’ve a walk to the mail box and a phone call to make about car insurance.

You all look like you’ve plenty to do today so enjoy your trips, journeys and meets ups ?

Pittcity Mon 17-Aug-20 08:35:41

Good morning from sunny Colchester. A bit of sun to dry things out after a very wet weekend.
Housework and ironing today.

Greyduster Mon 17-Aug-20 08:25:44

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Grey but dry so far in South. Yorkshire. We had a day of rain yesterday - ssome of it very heavy. Well, we asked for it! It gave us a chance to get into the garage and clear a space for SiL’s car top box which we said we would store for him. The only way we could do it was to chuck out our old tumble dryer which we haven’t used for nine years and it’s one of the “iffy” ones that might burst into flames anyway. I have a load of ironing to do today but we may try and get out for a walk. Have a good day folks.

harrigran Mon 17-Aug-20 08:18:40

Good morning from the NE where we have torrential rain.
Nice chat with DD on Skype yesterday, she did warn me she might have to scoot off to get her washing in because there was a storm gathering. She was sitting in flimsy clothes with windows wide open and the heating was on in our house.
GD1 sent some photos from Lewis where they were on the beach, so pleased they got their holiday.
No plans for today.

dogsmother Mon 17-Aug-20 08:04:11

Good Morning.
Sun shining here in the Channel, rather wish it wasn’t as I’d rather be hiding in dark corner recovering from yesterday’s excesses. The joys of being free of the bug and able to get out a gig...cider and dancing aplenty..

farview Mon 17-Aug-20 08:03:19

Morning all from a grey, wettish Lancashire...my 4yr old GS said yesterday that he Hope's the coronavirus doesn't come back and find grandma!!..so do I ?
Keep on keeping safe ,
Carpe diem ?

cornergran Mon 17-Aug-20 08:03:04

Morning Mick, morning All. A blue sky over our corner of Somerset, temperature has dropped but so pleased to see some brightness if only for a little while. Lots of catch up jobs for us today and a bit of re-jigging cupboards. Not Mr C’s favourite activity. Concerned for family members across the country in Norfolk flooded by surface water from a storm yesterday, will know more later. Safe trip brook, it will all be worth it. Take care everyone.

Urmstongran Mon 17-Aug-20 08:00:34

Sun’s up here! ?
Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s another windy woo ?

I enjoyed my Chinese last night. We got a taxi back up (very brave of me, but not something I’m prepared to do very often - less is more during these uncertain times for me anyway). Himself was disappointed that Man Utd lost. Hey ho.

Staying out of the sun again today (you can have too much of a good thing) I don’t want to be nut brown like Madge was in ‘Benidorm’! Apparently the make up girls used to coat her in gravy browning to achieve that look.
?

I’m really into my new novel ‘The Silent Patient’. A Richard & Judy recommendation. Plus it topped the Sunday Times charts for a while. A thriller. I don’t read them often (can’t be doing with all the red herrings!) but it’s a nice change of genre.

Ooh enjoy your break brook at your daughter’s. I hope you managed to zip your grip bag up okay. Less is definitely more!

Hope Monday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Gingster Mon 17-Aug-20 07:57:17

Good morning all and at last we’ve had a good drop of rain here on the Suffolk coast. We were so lucky as we had all the family here for the weekend and not a drop of rain. DD and her 4 scallywags leave this morning and then I’ll set about getting the house back in order. I’ve never known such untidy children. Teenagers just leave ‘stuff’ everywhere and lazy too! Oh dear I’m getting old! ?

grandMattie I too was thrown by the other good morning thread. What a liberty!

Have a lovely time with your DD Brook. I hope the flight turns out ok for you ?

Kittylester that incident sounded a bit scary. Hope you haven’t seen him since. ?

A peaceful day to all ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 17-Aug-20 07:56:16

Good morning Mick and all

Bright blue sky here in S E Essex ?

Gym this morning, then I should do the ironing (might not?)

Keep safe and well folks?‍♀️

Lins1066 Mon 17-Aug-20 07:52:37

Good Morning Mick and all from a cloudy but dry S Welsh coast. Yesterday turned out to be a dry day despite the forecast and quite warm in the afternoon. It was lovely to see the four year old chasing about the garden, she made me tired just looking at her.
Have a good time with your family brook. Hoping for a quiet day, some laundry to do but little else.
Have a good Monday.

Nortsat Mon 17-Aug-20 07:50:33

Good morning Mick and the GM team from sunny east London. We had some significant rain yesterday, which I am sure the garden is grateful for.

A family across the road had their daughters wedding in their garden yesterday. They had their house decked out with lights and a vintage car to take the bride and groom away. There were small children, in their wedding finery having their photographs taken in the vintage car ... it looked lovely.

Grocery delivery this morning and some admin to deal with.

Have a good day all?
