What is your most hated chore?

My most hated is washing up.
The dishwasher has just packed up, and I can’t get to John Lewis quickly enough!
Yet I have read about people who have a dishwasher and don’t use it! Madness!
The thought of all that yucky washing up after cooking the evening meal really makes my heart sink.
First World problems and all that, but none of us is perfect.

Just remembered there is one thing I like - mopping the floor. Baking isn't housework to me, more a pleasure.

All of it really but most of all I absolutely hate washing my hair and changing duvet covers, single ones I can cope with but the king sized ones drive me to a frenzy! I've tried all the supposed 'easy' ways to do it and still end up hot and bothered as they don't seem to be any easier at all!

I hate all of it. All my hobbies seem to make a mess so what is the point of cleaning up. wink wink

I’m not sure of GN guidelines on product sponsorship but I’d appreciate some recommendations for cleaning hard floors. I’ve tiles in the kitchen and conservatory but real wood in the Hall.

For the past few years, I’ve used a steam mop - the first a ‘sh**k’ broke the first time my DH tried to use it. (Think he did it deliberately?). Then I lashed out on an H2O which was expensive but lasted years. These things aren’t repairable when they stop working.
My next purchase was a V*x - a third of the H price, but it’s given up the ghost now! I’m back to a trusty old Minit mop, but it retains too much liquid to use on the wood floor. Has anyone used anything they could recommend?

Back to the OP - I’ve not cleaned my inside windows since April!! Can still see out of them, so I guess it’s not desperate, yet? X

I used to hate cleaning the inside of the shower cubicle but we don't have one now - only curtains, or open as it's a wet room.
I used to end up getting soaked.

Hate all housework ! But love cleaning the car, checking oil tyres etc, mowing grass, growing tomatoes. So no prizes for guessing who I spent more time with as a kid, mum or dad? Lol.

Cleaning the oven, but Oven Pride is really good. Put the racks in the giant bag, leave overnight, rinse off next day and they are super clean. Rest of the bottle gets painted onto the oven and takes off most of the gunge without a great deal of effort. I like cleaning windows, I just use water and a micro fibre cloth followed by a blade. Usually rains the next day but hey ho.

Hate doing the bathroom and sorting out cupboards and drawers. The bathroom takes me ages as i have to have it looking perfect. So i have made a rod for my own back. As for sorting out, i can never decide what to get rid of, so usually end up putting it all back until the next time!!! smile

Haven't read though all five pages so if anyone else has said this, I apologise now. Dishwashers are much more environmentally friendly than washing up in the sink. They use less water and energy overall.

I hate cleaning Venetian blinds.

lizzypopbottle Wed 26-Aug-20 13:11:19

I clean the shower naked so it doesn't matter if I get wet!

Other mould and mildew removers are available but I recommend Cif. It's brilliant and fast. Those sprays deteriorate over time and stop working so don't keep them too long.

Craftycat my oh defrost our freezer he uses hand held steam cleaner it is done in no time .

GreenGran78 Wed 26-Aug-20 13:31:38

Curlywhirly you don’t need grout cleaner. You need vinyl flooring! Just a quick mop over and it’s pristine again.
After years of cleaning up after a husband, five children, plus foster kids and half the neighbours’ children who were practically in residence, my ‘lazy gene’ has kicked in.
Housework is done on the basis of how grubby things look. As I’m mostly on my own the house stays pretty clean. The kitchen and bathrooms are pristine, but I don’t mind a bit of dust. The windows are cleaned when the sun shines through and shows me how bad they are. Most items don’t need ironing.
If this makes me sound like a slut, well, I don’t care. My friends (in normal times) come to see me, not how shiny my house looks. My house-proud daughter has learned not to express her opinion, and I think that she’s secretly a bit jealous of my relaxed attitude to housework.
After many years of being forced to keep on top of the cleaning it’s good to just ‘dust, if I must’.

@icanhandthemback ?, love it!

gillyknits Wed 26-Aug-20 13:47:08

I’m surprised that defrosting the freezer doesn’t feature on more of the posts. I hate it, especially getting the last fiddly bits of ice out. Maybe everyone has automatic defrost in their freezers!

mrsgreenfingers56 Wed 26-Aug-20 13:48:43

Ironing, I just loathe it and only do when totally and utterly necessary.

Maggiemaybe Wed 26-Aug-20 13:56:42

Veenus

Maggiemaybe what is an HG grout cleaner?

Hi +Venus*. HG is just a brand name, you can get it at loads of places (if desperate, from Amazon) and it’s not expensive for what it is. You spray it on the stained grouting, leave at least 30 minutes (I usually give it a few hours), then wipe off, using just a bit of elbow grease. It works like magic. smile

Maggiemaybe Wed 26-Aug-20 13:57:28

Sorry, that should have said Veenus.

Bluecat Wed 26-Aug-20 14:18:46

I hate all housework. Washing up is disgusting. Dishwashers are a marvellous invention. A magic cupboard where you put dirty dishes inside and they come out clean... When we bought our first one, years ago, I was annoyed to think of all the hours that I had wasted washing up.

hollysteers

All chores! I must be the most undomesticated woman in the country, although I used to enjoy cooking.
I once mentioned to my mother that living in an hotel would suit me down to the ground and she thought that was a horrible idea,

Cheers, I wholeheartedly agree! What a waste of time. Best gift for life - live in robotic housekeeper.

Did have an Aunt, who after the death of husband, moved into a hotel suite where she lived for the rest of her life. Always lovely to visit. Bliss.

sparklingsilver28 Wed 26-Aug-20 14:54:58

My DMIL's comment: " All sluts carry a duster"! Born in 1889 and a lovely friend.

Saggi Wed 26-Aug-20 15:36:21

Right with you GrannyGravy...hate cleaning shower. Don’t iron anymore...does anybody when there are so many books to read...and not much time left...sod ironing!!

BBbevan Wed 26-Aug-20 15:41:26

Dislike cleaning the showers. Now I usually do it in the altogether. Saves my socks getting wet. Also cleaning the windows which get covered in salt, as we live near the sea,.

LadyBella Wed 26-Aug-20 15:46:09

GrannyGravy - get yourself an extension lead and iron the duvet when it's on the bed. It's what I do and is SO much easier.

Flakesdayout Wed 26-Aug-20 16:47:30

If I dont wear my glasses my home looks lovely - all round.
