What is your most hated chore?

My most hated is washing up.
The dishwasher has just packed up, and I can’t get to John Lewis quickly enough!
Yet I have read about people who have a dishwasher and don’t use it! Madness!
The thought of all that yucky washing up after cooking the evening meal really makes my heart sink.
First World problems and all that, but none of us is perfect.

My must detested job is cleaning the showers, second is ironing king size duvet covers!

MissAdventure Tue 25-Aug-20 19:58:09

Putting away clean clothes.
They seem to spend 5 minutes hanging around, then they appear back in the wash basket again.

Cleaning the oven, ironing sheets, hoovering, dusting, most housework if I am truthful. Don't mind cleaning bathrooms and kitchen!

Oopsadaisy4 Tue 25-Aug-20 20:01:08

Dusting skirting boards. In Every . Single . Flipping . Room.

Ironing sheets and duvet covers ?.? What kind of madness is that!

Mapleleaf Tue 25-Aug-20 20:01:20

Cleaning windows!

Chewbacca Tue 25-Aug-20 20:07:14

Ironing anything at all. So I stopped doing that completely.
Cleaning the oven. So when I had a new kitchen installed, I chose a self cleaning oven.
I'm just left with vacuuming the stairs; a job I loathe because I hate balancing the wretched thing on a step whilst trying to vacuum the step above it. A handheld, cordless vacuum is my next "big buy".

GrannyGravy13. If you really must iron duvet covers try putting it on the bed and ironing it in situ. You may need an extension cord. ?

Cleaning 4 toilets ? with 3 men in the house .

Putting the shopping away! Don’t mind doing it, but hate stashing it away, I try to do it when I know DH is around to put it in the cupboards.

Ealdemodor why go to John Lewis?

Have you had a look at AO? We've recently bought a new oven, washer/dryer and a dishwasher from them (not all at once, but over the past 5 months) and they are very good, price match, fast delivery, and will take old appliances away for a reasonable fee.

All chores! I must be the most undomesticated woman in the country, although I used to enjoy cooking.
I once mentioned to my mother that living in an hotel would suit me down to the ground and she thought that was a horrible idea,

paddyanne Tue 25-Aug-20 20:31:31

Cleaning the cooker,I keep asking OH to take the pan supports outside and jet wash them ..he says it wont work.
I like washing dishes by hand ,I have a dishwasher but dont use it ever so its been consigned to the garage and a lovely new winefridge installed in its place .There usually just 2 of us here now so a few pots and dishes isn't a lot to clear away.Today I cooked most of the afternoon, two soups, moussaka ,a couple of fruit loaves 2 dozen scones and 3 dozen pancakes.I clear up as I go and just have the worktops to wipe down when its done ...oh and I dont use gadgets either ,just a decent set of knives and a hand whisk ...gives me a sense of acheivement..lol

Shopping, I’ve done click and collect for 2 years, now delivery, putting it away is tedious. I don’t iron, my husband does it, 90% is his and certainly not bedding, body heat gets out creases!
Don’t mind hoovering, bathrooms cleaned scrupulously, I cook majority of nights from scratch.

NanKate Tue 25-Aug-20 20:40:49

All forms of housework. I must come from the aristocracy ??

kittylester Tue 25-Aug-20 20:45:48

Me too kate!!

PinkCakes Tue 25-Aug-20 21:52:27

I hate cleaning the oven, and ironing.

lemongrove Tue 25-Aug-20 22:02:38

Cleaning the oven.....so I don’t, and haven’t done for the last six years. An oven cleaning company send someone out to do it .....worth every penny. They do the grillpan and all the shelves too, leave it looking like a showroom new oven.

kittylester Tue 25-Aug-20 22:04:12

Mine is coming next week, lemon, he does the extractor too! Love him! Xx

tanith Tue 25-Aug-20 22:04:18

Snap PinkCakes oven cleaning and ironing although now I no longer have to iron mine and DH work shirts 10 at least a week I hardly do any ironing.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Aug-20 22:05:47

I will confess to having a cleaner, as soon as it was allowed my lovely lady was back, so the showers are generally clean, but since Covid I have been ironing!!!

Curlywhirly Tue 25-Aug-20 22:12:30

Changing the beds - I'd rather iron for hours than change a bed! Also, scrubbing the grout between the kitchen floor tiles, I do it with a toothbrush and Cif and it takes 2 blummin hours!

Grammaretto Tue 25-Aug-20 22:12:47

hollysteers grin
Your post reminded me of when I took my mum to look at sheltered flats. She was shown around one and was surprised to see a kitchen. Why have you a kitchen? she asked. "For cooking ofcourse".
The look on my mum's face was a picture. After a lifetime of cooking and housework, I think she thought sheltered housing was going to be a hotel.

grannyrebel7 Tue 25-Aug-20 22:15:31

Definitely cleaning the bathroom. I hate it, so time consuming. Never clean the oven myself anymore. It's so worth the 50 quid to have it done professionally. I don't think I was put on this earth for cleaning anything! Would rather read a good book smile

Maggiemaybe Tue 25-Aug-20 22:44:25

I don’t iron (creases drop out) or clean the oven (neither does anyone else, and it never looks particularly in need of it confused). DH does all the cooking, gardening and vaccing (I’m very lucky).

I’m not at all houseproud, and I don’t mind the laundry, or jobs like cleaning the bathroom, mopping the floors, anything where you can see a quick result really. What gets me is the general tidying and sorting, which I should do regularly but always put off till it’s a chore. Putting away the shopping comes into this category. I’m a bit of a lazy so and so really.

Curlywhirly, you need HG grout cleaner - it works like magic!
