Good Morning Everyone,
A dry start with a grey sky this morning in Brackley .
Today, apart from some housework and laundry I will be watching the Tour De France unfold as the race heads eastwards away from Nice ,and towards the Pyrenees later this week .
Need to change my printer cartridges as well .
Take Care ,
Mick

Good Morning Bank Holiday Monday
(45 Posts)Good morning from a grey damp E Kent. You would think that the weather knew when it was August bank holiday, it’s so dreary.
Hope you are enjoying TdF, Mick. Yesterday, my chaps had no fewer than four rugby matches, TdF and 20/20 cricket to watch on 2 televisions. I was banned from both the sitting and dining rooms... it gave me opportunity to do some sewing, though I would rather have read the papers and watch c..p on tv.
Today, we’ve booked a fancy afternoon tea for GS (his choice) to celebrate his GCSEs. Last Rishi meal. Now, he’s almost grown up, we see very little of him. But we have SO enjoyed his childhood and forged such a strong bond that it doesn’t matter.
Enjoy your day, stay safe.
Hello Mick and GrandMattie- I’ve been up since sparrowfart packing as we’re off to the coast for a few days to celebrate DH birthday ?
It’ll be a lovely break as the hotel is on the beach ? with sea views from our room and I’m looking forward to no cleaning or cooking for days.....!
Enjoy your Rishi dishy GrandMattie! And a good Bank Holiday Monday to all in UK - I hope weather is kind and you’ve all got the day off (I mean you Gillybob! No sneaking in unless it’s to process that elusive order!)
?We’re all going on a summer oliday.....?
Good morning from a bright but cold Essex by the sea. The sun is shining, I'm not sure it will last all day.
We visited one of our favourite places further up the coast yesterday and walking back to the car DH tripped and fell. He went down heavily on one side, winded himself and has hurt his ribs. He also has scrapes and bruises down one arm and a small graze on his head. My immediate thought was for his artificial hips but they seem ok.
He has had a very restless night so I've left him in bed.
I'm not sure if we will be doing anything much today, maybe a quick visit to his eldest daughter and family.
Have a pleasant bank holiday Monday and stay safe xx
Good morning all Glasgow, I couldn't believe how dark it was when DH got up for the golf. It's supposed to be 63°F today, it was a very pleasant day yesterday, too. ?
Well, yesterday's jam making didn't materialize, there were hardly any brambles. It was a combination of a number of things: someone had beaten me to it, ( how dare they!) many still weren't ripe, I'm so small that I couldn't reach, my arms are too short, and my neighbour had put down weed killer to clear them away!?.
I was determined not to come back empty handed. It's a solitary occupation. I love the peace and quiet and the chance to be outdoors.
I did not survive without a few mishaps. I somehow managed to get my hair entangled in the bush, collected a few thorns along the way and stumbled and cut my arm. I really can't be allowed out alone!?
When I got home, I cleaned my arm, it was just a small cut, but oh how it bled, due to my medication. I asked DH to put an elastoplast on it. Happily, no Frozen nor pirate plasters this time. However, I have just tried to change it and the adhesive part has been put on the cut, not the dressing part. Ouch! What is it with that man and plasters!!!?
I know a secret spot where there will be plenty of brambles, but I need DH with me, it's a bit quiet and out of the way, so I shall have to butter him up to accompany me. ?
I ended up making apple and blackcurrant crumble for us and my two neighbours. They were delighted, as it was ready just in time for their Sunday dinner and they are definitely not bakers.?
Today is injection day and I'm quite apprehensive, after last week's fiasco! I just can't get the injection site right and my hands are so stiff. I still have an enormous bruise after last week's attempt!
I'm also preparing to do battle with a certain American credit card company this morning, after spending hours last week trying to claim back for my daughter's cancelled wedding after they, inadvertantly closed the claim for a Second time. Now DH has received an email, saying that as we didn't bother responding, they have closed it permanently. Watch this space. Do they know I have red hair? This has been going on since March.??. You can't blame the pandemic for everything!
Thinking of Bellasnanna and her dear friend and all our other absent regulars. ?
Have a good day everyone.
Good morning all from Inverness where it’s grey and cool but at least it’s dry.
It’s not a BH here, just a normal day with school for the DGC and DH is going to his part time job soon. I’m looking forward to meeting my friend for a coffee and a catch up later this morning - we’ve not seen each other for a couple of weeks so lots of news to share?
Hope your DH is ok sar53 it’s so easy to trip up and hurt yourself, hope he’s back to normal soon
Enjoy your holiday Pantglas and a very Happy Birthday to your DH???
Take care everyone and enjoy the day whatever you’re doing ?
Good Morning everyone from sunny Severnside. I can see a seagull perched on the end of a roof looking around the neighbourhood.
I hope you did as you were told gilly and took that tag off?
I’ll do some gardening today and plant up some ‘mums’ in a pot. Salad will be my meal. I saw yesterday I’ve got some ripe tomatoes in the greenhouse. They aren’t doing very well this year despite having five plants.
Enjoy your beach break Pant and everyone else have a lovely day ??
Morning all from a bright but chilly North Leicestershire.
We did get our roast beef yesterday and managed to avoid a dash north to DH's brother but the worry is still there.
Phone calls are the order of the day today.
sars, I hope your dh is ok.
Take care everyone.
Good morning Mick and all
Can you send the sun 10 minutes up the road please Sar53 as there is no sign of it here!!! I do hope your DH is ok when he wakes up, falling over is not much fun past 5 yrs old!!
DD and GC ended up staying last night as we opened some fizz and had a good old natter whilst DH watched sport. So definitely a lazy day today.
Keep safe and well folks ?♀️
Morning Mick, morning All from a cloudy, cool corner of Somerset. Sunshine forecast later. Not sure what we’ll do today other than avoid anticipated traffic. Take care everyone,
Morning Mick and All.
A grey start with a tiny bit of sun in the distance here in South Bucks.
Glad you managed your roast beef meal Kitty. I so understand that nagging feeling in the back of your head when you are worried by a family member. Hope you get a peaceful day.
Looking forward to watching last night’s Cormorant Strike series. I recently rewatched the previous 3 series.
Have a good BHM folks.
Good morning from sunny Colchester. Looks like a good fence painting day.
Every day has seemed like a Bank Holiday here for months.
Good morning from a sunny Suffolk coast. So windy and wild yesterday. We had kite surfers arrive and we saw them flying into the air. Must be so exhillerating! We watched them on and off for a couple of hours. Fit young men!
Clearing and closing up the cottage today as we’re heading back to Essex tomorrow. We’ll leave the garden in apple-pie order too. So a busy day ahead. Looking forward to seeing family and friends and rejoining my pastime groups (if possible). We will be back in about a month.
I watched Cormorant Strike last night. Haven’t seen it before but was recommended. It’s on again tonight. I’ll try to stick with it. ?.
Hope you’re DH is feeling ok after his fall Sar . It really shakes you up.
I did laugh at the image of you Marydoll with brambles stuck in your hair. ?. Sorry! I don’t suppose you were laughing. Our blackberries are still quite small so not worth picking yet. MyDH won’t eat them because of the pips but I can’t be bothered to go down the jelly route. Perhaps I will! They are such a lovely flavour.
Hope your BH is enjoyable. ?
Sun’s up here! ?
Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s another gorgeous one with no wind and the Mediterranean is cobalt blue. We think we will venture back down to the beach in a couple of weeks as the children here are back at school on 10 September.
So many Spanish families are leaving this apartment block - summer vacations are over. Their cars were loaded for bear over the weekend with suitcases, cool boxes and pillows.
3 little British girls, all about 8 or 9y were playing in the pools yesterday. All the other children in the gardens were Spanish. I overheard them chatting as they made friends:
“Shall we all play together?”
“Yes we can be holiday friends!”
“Where do you live at home?”
“Um ... I’m from a country in England called Milton Keynes”
Too cute ❤️
Enjoy your mini break Pantglas! Hope your husband isn’t too battered and bruised Sar and that you find your secret stash of brambles Marydoll!
Hope BH Monday is kind to us all. Your comment made me laugh Pittcity! Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x
Good morning from Shropshire where another dry and sunny day is forecast.
My first job today is to hopefully deal with an insurance company if they are open today. We had a policy with them and this morning I received an email thanking me for renewing my policy with them. The policy isn’t due yet and I had telephoned to say I wouldn’t be renewing?I will also phone the credit card company to cancel the payment?I will then probably need to lie down in a darkened room.
I love that you have such a good relationship with your grandson grandMattie. That is what I hope for with our grandchildren??❤️
Sar, I hope your husband is feeling better today and kitty I hope you have better news of your DH’s brother.
Cherry,I hope you have had a restful night and are feeling better this morning?
Have a good day all and thinking of all our absent goodmorningers and all with sickness and worries.
Good morning Mick and the gang.
Grey and cool in Suffolk this morning. DH sound asleep still - a bad night perhaps? I am going to creep downstairs and start weeding the area for the new gravel path. I have enlisted three teenagers to shift the gravel for me ?.
Yesterday was DGS’s 7th birthday - we went to visit them on their camping holiday and ate pizza and birthday cake. Great fun but sooo cold! Every group on the site had a fire going when we left.
I hope you all have a good day.
Grey and cool here, we are going to the allotment to give the bees some sugar syrup, also to plant a large echinops which I dug up yesterday, the bees love it. I will probably dig up our beans as they seem to have gone over already, don't think the very high temperatures suited them. Marydoll, we bend wire coat hangers so that the hook is at the top to make a "pullerdowner" for blackberries. Works a treat. Then sewing this afternoon, when I will ask for help to rethread the b..... overlocker. If I ever come into money I will buy one that rethreads itself!
Good morning all from the Sunny Scottish Borders.
Oh dear Sar sorry to hear of your poor DH's fall.
As for Marydoll's exploits. Well really!
Surely it's still too early for brambles? My best ever picking year was the September holiday weekend in Fife.
We were still finding raspberries on our walk yesterday with the DGC. Plenty enough for 2 good bowl fulls.
It isn't a public holiday here in Scotland. We had ours at the start of the month. Every day is a holiday for us too.... Pittcity
Have a lovely day however you spend it.
grannysyb what a great tip for the bramble picking!
Grammaretto, I did get some very ripe black ones, but even the bushes, just like me seem to have shrunk since last year.
I have just spent an hour on the phone to the credit card company (locked out of the account, into the bargain) and ended up in tears of frustration, as no refund forthcoming. ?
Good luck Susan with your call.
Unusually for me, I have logged an official complaint. Enough is enough!!!
Sar, I do hope your husband is ok after his fall. What a worry for you.
Morning all from a grey S Hants, sun supposed to appear later. Had a lovely bbq with friends yesterday, sun was out, but by about 5:30 a definite chill. I spent the day uncomfortably, dreaded constipation, caused by medication, resolved before Strike came on. I really must take the prunes regularly, I get a bit complacent.
Man here now to severely chop two bushes in the garden and remove the rubbish, needs to be done before new fencing is erected in a couple of weeks. GD is 13 tomorrow, that went quickly! So present wrapping this morning, later I’m picking up my new glasses.
Have a peaceful day all, take care and stay safe.
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good Morning from a dull but still warm Black Country.
We managed to have a BBQ last night and sat out until 8pm. Took Mum home, so it was 9pm before I could relax.
Not sure what the plans are for today, being as Partner is now retired, every day is a BH for us
I am having a similar problem with my Credit card company Marydoll. I made the claim at the end of May and no acknowledgement so far. I will have to ring them this week I think. My claim is for a holiday with Shearings, who collapsed in May. Hoping you have no problems with the injection.
Do you have any plans to come back to the UK soon Urmston? Or will you stay a few weeks longer?
Wishing you all a good day, and I hope your DH is ok Sar
Good morning All. It's a beautiful morning here in Polmont. I've been to the local aldi to pick up whole milk for dgs and flowers for dd. It's a short shift for me today as dd is on holiday but going for a massage. Time to herself is long overdue. We had family breakfast yesterday and it was a bit disappointing. The waitress was not using her mask at all and the meal was ok but nothing more than that. Today will be babysitting this morning then I might brave a garden centre this afternoon as I want pots and bulbs. Have a good day all.
Sun has just come out here (SW London).
Thermometer outside the kitchen window is reading just 14 deg. though.
We had the heating on both Sat and Sun pm - might not have if we hadn’t had a guest staying, but it was lovely.
Good morning from the NE coast where the weather is a little brighter this morning but very cold . Feels like October or maybe even November. At 8.30am we were seeing 6 degrees on the outside thermometer. Yes single figures in August !
I am calling into “that place” for a couple of hours today and picking miss Evie Buttons up on my way back . I will have her until late this evening . I will have my grandson at work with me for the rest of the week . He doesn’t go back to school until the middle of September which will be virtually 6 months with no contact from the school whatsoever.
I’m so sorry to hear that your DH has had a nasty fall Sar53 and I hope he is feeling a lot better today .
Enjoy your stay at the beach Pantglas I’m sure the weather will be lovely . We have the most amazing stretch of coastline just a stones throw away from my house but sadly we didn't really get a summer this year .
I still haven’t taken the tags off my jacket Beechnut as I still feel terribly guilty for buying it in the first place . It’s still folded up in the carrier bag taunting me
I Am still thinking about our missing friends dragonfly , BlueSapphire and Bellasnana and those who are feeling poorly or under the weather too.
I hope Monday is kind to everyone . Love Gillybob xx
