I don’t think there’s another thread but if there is I apologise
There are so many (often quite nasty) threads about Harry and Meghan on here and now we have pictures of William and Kate shooting birds while they choose to have their son watching and there’s not a peep of disapproval
Well I think it’s abysmal for a child to watch any kind of killing of animals especially when it’s for pleasure and please don’t bother telling me they need culling ...,it’s a so called sport and I personally think it’s horrendous
now you can all have a go at me

* You can’t wipe out their story by giving a worse one that’s just defending them *. Well put Bluebelle.

There has been a huge rise in illegal killing of birds of prey connected to grouse moors. Yes it’s illegal, but there have been NO prosecutions. Grouse moors are kept to increase the pleasure of those folks who want to blast small birds out of the sky on a jolly. It’s bad for the environment and wildlife, They aren’t all eaten either. The whole practice should be licensed and regulated.
Don’t get me started on how livestock are treated,

Larks, songbirds, badger killing , bull fighting, animals kept in tiny cages, overcrowded hens, bull runs, dancing bears I could go on and on and on but this thread is about William and Kate. You can’t wipe out their story by giving a worse one that’s just defending them
My whole point is animals and birds SHOULD NEVER be killed for PLEASURE whether it’s a tiger elephant or a bird and immaterial of whether they are thrown away or eaten
and it doesn’t matter whose behind the gun it’s WRONG and I expect better of William and Kate especially after their lectures on conservation

MissAdventure Fri 04-Sept-20 00:25:17

And, seeing as I'm arguing a moot (or meat) point, I'm off to bed.
Sweet dreams all. smile

MissAdventure Fri 04-Sept-20 00:20:45

It has to cut both ways though.
Until or unless nobody ever consumes meat that has been to a slaughterhouse then their views are a moot point, just the same as other meat eaters.

Callistemon Fri 04-Sept-20 00:18:22

That's not what I said, MissA

Chewbacca Fri 04-Sept-20 00:14:57

Exactly Callistemon.

MissAdventure Fri 04-Sept-20 00:14:17

So, people who think shooting is fine shouldn't have an opinion on it unless they go out and shoot their dinner each night?
I'm assuming country people eat food from slaughterhouses at times. (Maybe they don't?)

Callistemon Fri 04-Sept-20 00:03:16

X post quizqueen

Callistemon Fri 04-Sept-20 00:02:34

I remember seeing a pic of the queen wringing a bird's neck years ago
You're obviously not from a farming family, grannyrebel.

If posters are vegetarian or vegan then fine, your comments have value, but surely those who eat meat and fish should worry about the poor life some animals have before going off to be slaughtered, probably by halal methods.

quizqueen Fri 04-Sept-20 00:01:50

I certainly don't approve of hunting for sport but, to be honest, anyone who eats animal flesh has no right to condemn this behaviour. The way animals are killed in slaughter houses is no better.

Callistemon Thu 03-Sept-20 23:56:27

Now this is truly barbaric - trapping songbirds

Yes, I believe this happens annually in Malta and Cyprus too MawB2.
So much for EU law.

maddyone Thu 03-Sept-20 23:26:42

I don’t like the idea of blood sports at all. To me it isn’t sport to kill something, but I accept that people do engage in these activities. I think an animal going to it’s death in an abattoir will experience terror and probably pain, whereas supposedly shooting ensures a quick death, I’m not sure that it does though.
I do eat meat, but not a lot, and I prefer vegetarian food really. I’m a bit too lazy to make the change, and I do admit a liking for a barbecued sausage in the summer months.

Curlywhirly Thu 03-Sept-20 23:16:32

Yes, killing an animal in order to put a meal on the table, is a necessary evil in our world; but to gain pleasure from doing so and calling it sport is, to me, repulsive.

Lucca Thu 03-Sept-20 22:23:54

Bluebelle thank you fir understanding immediately why I mentioned Meghan,

Jane10 Thu 03-Sept-20 22:08:17

Shooting birds for pleasure is a ghastly sort of 'sport'. I imagine that William will have been so exposed to it all his life he just takes it for granted. If he actually had a think about it I'd hope he'd see it the way most of us seem to.

Anniebach Thu 03-Sept-20 21:46:45

Agree Chewie I know a farmer who holds shoots on his
ground, he rents his farm from the council, so certainly not
‘Upper class.

merlotgran Thu 03-Sept-20 21:43:23

Perhaps those who are so very against game shooting should consider how the venison, pheasant or partridge that they're eating at the restaurant came to be on their plate.

Not to mention it's some of the healthiest meat you can eat.

Chewbacca Thu 03-Sept-20 21:37:39

It's true the upper classes don't see anything wrong with it

My father was a long way from being upper class! grin Shooting rabbits, hares and pheasants provided a meal for the family table.

MissAdventure Thu 03-Sept-20 21:37:16

Well, I'm glad I cleared it up for you, Annie smile

Anniebach Thu 03-Sept-20 21:35:07

But Miss Adventure I agree you have an opinion, I asked because you described killing in slaughter houses and killing
in the countryside as two wrongs, so I thought you were vegan

grannylyn65 Thu 03-Sept-20 21:30:50

My ex was a shooter, I refused to have anything to do with it. Tried to train hs son. Nope.

MissAdventure Thu 03-Sept-20 21:30:39

No, I'm not vegan, Annie, but I can have an opinion on what I think should be called "sport".

Anniebach Thu 03-Sept-20 21:29:59

It’s not only the upper classes ! who shoot,
