I don’t think there’s another thread but if there is I apologise
There are so many (often quite nasty) threads about Harry and Meghan on here and now we have pictures of William and Kate shooting birds while they choose to have their son watching and there’s not a peep of disapproval
Well I think it’s abysmal for a child to watch any kind of killing of animals especially when it’s for pleasure and please don’t bother telling me they need culling ...,it’s a so called sport and I personally think it’s horrendous
now you can all have a go at me

I had heard of this before MawB2 trapping wild song birds in France, so much for EU laws then.

catladyuk

I totally agree BlueBelle, I was horrified when I saw the photos and amazed that there has not been any media outcry

What photos?

There's a photo of Prince William with a gun in his hand and that's all.

PS we can enjoy being cat owners in the knowledge that they are not killing birds or annoying neighbours by using their gardens as toilets.

I'm a vegetarian mostly because I used to live on a small holding and ate the meat we raised. It never ceases to amaze me that meat eaters think factory farmed meat is more humane to eat than someone out shooting. I suggest people
watch some videos on how their meat gets to their plates
and then re think the issue.

Not just in France lemogrove this also happens in Italy, Crete and Malta.

vegansrock Fri 04-Sept-20 11:40:10

Gamekeepers killing hen harriers and eagles to protect grouse illegally - no prosecutions- so much for UK law then.

Anniebach Fri 04-Sept-20 11:42:26

Cats want to stalk , Smileless , lets kill all magpies because they eat small mammals ? No, it’s what they do

vegansrock Fri 04-Sept-20 11:45:43

And its not just protected species that are killed to protect grouse -Chris Pakham quoted in The Independent - “On top of this, snares and traps litter the moors targeting foxes, stoats, weasels, crows and other birds. These devices are indiscriminate and commonly kill non-target species such as badgers and hedgehogs. Animals such as weasels and stoats are caught in spring traps. Crows are caught in cage traps and then must endure stressful confinement until somebody comes to shoot or beat them to death. Foxes are caught in snares and can spend hours struggling before being found and killed, or succumbing to their injuries.”
One of the most shocking issues for me is that there is very little information for the public to scrutinise how many foxes, stoats, weasels, crows are killed on grouse moors each year. It’s a free-for-all with no requirement to have proven other [control] methods have been tried first, nor any real requirement by gamekeepers or land managers to report anything to the authorities or the interested public – most of these species have no real protection in law at all.” So its not just those pesky furriners killing small creatures. This is the UK.

I agree Annie but so often cats are criticised for doing what comes naturally and their owners for keeping them in the first place.

Our cat watches the birds, prowls and makes what we call his 'killer cry' just doesn't get the opportunity to catch anything.

Theoddbird Fri 04-Sept-20 11:59:39

Awful.... angry

JenniferEccles Fri 04-Sept-20 12:09:20

But it’s not animal cruelty is it Mimigirl ?

Every decent person abhors cruelty to animals but we are talking here about a grouse shoot where the birds are killed instantly.

As others have said that is much preferable to dubious practices in abattoirs.

Callistemon

^And I still don’t understand what keeping a House cat haS to do with grouse shooting^
It's cruel to keep a cat indoors for all its life.

In fact, I was chatting to someone the other week who believed that no animal should be domesticated purely for our selfish pleasure.

Agree but I didn’t realise “a house cat” meant it is kept indoors all the time.

Smileless2012 Fri 04-Sept-20 12:18:20

As I've posted Lucca a house cat doesn't necessarily mean it's kept indoors all the time. It means that they have restricted out door space to enjoy.

vegansrock Fri 04-Sept-20 12:24:35

But it’s not just the grouse that are killed it’s so much wildlife that’s killed with no repercussion to protect the grouse - so people can enjoy shooting them.

I was referring to Annibach saying “ Keeping budgies in cages is cruel, same with rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats , rabbits etc, as is keeping house cats,”

Callistemon Fri 04-Sept-20 12:30:20

I thought that's what it meant. Someone I worked with had a house cat plus two others - the 'others' were allowed out but the house cat was never let out of the house because it was too precious, a pedigree. It escaped eventually and got knocked down on the road, poor thing.

Hunting as a hobby is disgusting. Respect all living creatures, as they are not put on this earth for entertainment, and to show this barbaric practise to George is beyond the pale.

Newatthis Fri 04-Sept-20 12:50:28

All I can say is - can you imagine what the backlash would have been if it would have been Megan and Harry? No doubt all over the front pages and lots of criticism. Hunting animals, shooting birds - terrible. But then it is William and Kate and they don't seem to be able to do anything wrong.

JenniferEccles Fri 04-Sept-20 13:06:52

I like William and Catherine (as far as any of us can say that without really knowing them) but if I disapproved of what they are doing I would say so.

It’s perfectly possible to like someone yet disapprove of their actions from time to time.

Our grown up children anyone?!

Frizzywizzy Fri 04-Sept-20 13:08:50

Well, I’m another one who agrees with you Bluebelle. The point is that if shooting and hunting is ‘normalized’ when you are very young, it becomes normal behaviour for that young child. They will want to participate in the same ‘sport’ as soon as they are able to. The same people who shoot are often the same people who illegally hunt foxes. Again, the people who shoot grouse and pheasant are often the people who are actively shooting badgers right now for the sport of it. Yes, the badger Cull is back with us RIGHT NOW and badgers are probably being shot in the field near to where you live. Supposedly it’s to stop the spread of bovine TB but don’t tell me that a lot of the shooters don’t enjoy the sport of the kill. Bovine TB is a disease of cattle and, a bit like Covid 19, some cows just don’t show any signs of having the disease at all, but continue to spread it among the herd. Some unfortunate badgers get the disease from cattle and then are blamed for the spread of the disease. Unbelievable.
Yes, I loathe all hunting and shooting.

Anniebach Fri 04-Sept-20 13:16:15

Harry has enjoyed shooting and hunting from a child, he gave up when he married

merlotgran Fri 04-Sept-20 13:19:16

More incorrect and ill informed nonsense.

SJV07 Fri 04-Sept-20 13:23:08

Sorry, spelt that wrong, 'Mee.....'ghan'

SJV07 Fri 04-Sept-20 13:25:37

Badgers & foxes need culling as they are vermin. Have you seen a chicken house raided???

Desdemona Fri 04-Sept-20 13:33:33

Totally 100% agree with you Bluebelle.
