Backpack, clutch or handbag?

I’ve never got it right in the handbag department and now I have arthritis apparently in neck and shoulder area I think I’ll have to go backpack. Do you have a wardrobe full of handbags?

Not sure why it posted twice. I had given up because it didn't seem to have posted at all. I am having problems with posting at the moment.

Only have a few bags, one handheld, last buy from Debenhams, couple of crossover bags, one of which is a Kipling. Use that when out shopping as you are hands free and don’t have to put it down , and it’s very light and washable.

I have been using the same winter handbag for over 20 years. it is a shoulder bag and comes from Carpet Bag.It went back to them a couple of years ago for a new zip and i am currently relining it.

I have been less successful with summer bags, but this year Ibought a fabric shoulder bag in a charity shop for a fiver, which has all the feel of longevity.

Ooh! How interesting.
It could have been part of a goodie bag. The stars get given all manner of luxury items at those award things.

Josianne oh do tell!
I came on to say that Lucca’s bag looked like a Launer, but you’d already said it smile

So, we stayed in Cannes the week after the famous film festival. Let's just say it had been left behind. It must have been draped on a film star's wrist just for show because it was unused and empty. No point handing it in, the celebrity was long gone and they or their stylist probably never knew they had left it behind somewhere!

I bought a handbag the other day as I was going away for the weekend and didn't want to carry a backpack around with me all the time.
After the weekend I went to put it into my big storage cupboard and found that I had several handbags in there already and had forgotten about them all!
I use a small backpack all the time as it's easier for me to carry on my shoulder. I never use a clutch bag as I use a walking stick in one hand so need the other hand free to hold onto things, and the handbags I do have go across my body so I don't need to keep adjusting them as I do if they're only on one shoulder; also it's less easy for the 'baddies' to grab hold of.

Sorry, it's a clutch bag.

I've actually got a Jimmy Choo handbag. I think it is crocodile skin which I totally disapprove of. But hey ho. It was acquired in a very dubious manner quite a while ago.

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 06:21:51

I’ve got the first one and would love the second one.
They’ve also got themed gardening, cookery, sci-fi and Austen bookworm bags

FannyCornforth Fri 10-Sept-21 06:09:47

I’ve got far too many bags. Ridley, Kipling, Cath Kidston.
Probably about 40 blush
Which is utterly ludicrous as I literally never go anywhere now.
My favourites are by a company called Yoshi. I have two of their ‘bookworm’ bags. But they aren’t very practical as you can’t get much in them, and they scratch easily, as do Radley.
For practicality, you can’t beat Kipling.
I’ve also got a bit of a soft spot for bum bags. Another blush

To add, if I ever needed an evening bag I’d borrow from a friend or dil ?

I’m either using cross body or backpack. I have a black leather handbag for funerals.

The crossbodies and backpacks are either soft leather or canvas. All good brands eg Fossil etc bought off eBay for next to nothing. Canvas are Kipling.
I keep them all in the carved blanket box that is used as a coffee table.

Might try a crossbody though.

Good heavens this thread is a year old !
I’ve become totally addicted to a back pack for every day or very small clutch for evenings out ( obviously I have so many of those …life is one mad social whirl…dancing theatre cocktail parties opera dinner parties ..)

MayBeMaw Thu 09-Sept-21 17:01:38

Crossbody for me and I like to be able to get my train ticket/bus pass/purse out without taking it off. I had a lovely Fiorelli backpack for my holiday in Germany two years ago as I knew I would be carrying it all day but found it impractical in London as I had to keep taking it off to get at my ticket/bus pass. Clutch or handbag or even shoulder bag (a small one) for “out out” if I can remember what that is.

I could document my life by my handbags, starting off with a small grey leather pouch which I could easily use now. During lockdown I have used small clutch bags with a long strap, and a tan leather bucket bag when shopping, but as I don't really go anywhere for long handbags aren't as essential as they used to be.

My goddaughter has a Ralph Lauren bag which i greatly admire. It is black with a tan leather strap so you can use as a cross over bag. It is so simple in design and i love it. Only this week she managed to track one down on a well known auction site and bought it for me. I said i will pay for it but she said no, but in the end she agreed to let me pay half. Cant wait to get it on Saturday when i am seeing her. I am not a lady who coverts handbags but this one i did. My current bag is by Troop of London it is a crossover one and very sturdy for everyday use. I bought it in charcoal grey and it kinda goes with everything i wear, especially in the winter as i have a sage green coat and i wear grey gloves which my daughter bought me one year and they they pick up the colour of the bag. When i wear really summery clothes i use a cream crossover bag that i picked up from somewhere it is not a branded one but for the amount of times i use it ...weather ..... it serves its purpose. I also have a couple of back packs which i started using when i had to use a stick as it leaves my hands free. They are perfect for taking books back to the library or if i have just a few things to buy at the shops.

Whoops, just looked at my post when I was MFL!
Since last year, I have gained 1 bag for a wedding, black leather TKMaxx £17.00???.

Another last week, a “never full” tote by Liberty, I love it, the lining is embossed in Liberty purple and the press studs convert it in to a more classic shape.

It wasn’t £17.00 ????

BBbevan Thu 09-Sept-21 16:34:58

Pocket?

DiscoGran Thu 09-Sept-21 16:32:01

Have you bought any since this time last year? I've bought 2, one small blush pink to go to a wedding, and a bigger round straw type one (charity shop buy) ?

BlueBelle Thu 09-Sept-21 16:15:39

I gave away loads of handbags recently as I wasn't really using them. Just kept a couple back. I need a handbag more these days, as instead of just a purse, I have to carry hand sanitiser, disinfectant, mask, when shopping.

For travel and for hiking, I finally found a backpack which doesn't collapse in a shapeless heap when you put it down. It is a nappy-changing bag! I haven't needed the straps for attaching it to a pram, but the insulated compartments for bottles might come in handy if I want a cup of tea whilst out. And no, it doesn't have teddy bears on the outside,it's a smart navy and grey stripe.

Of course, I could have gone for a bag designed to carry a laptop, but I couldn't find one I liked.
