Plastic baloons filled with helium.
Oriental lanterns made of lead, with the candle inside.
Fireworks sold on an indivdual basis.

Heard that Sainsburys will not be selling firworks this year,
a scheme they started back in 2019.
Just wondering if the other large chains will follow suit.

Too many things to mention that harm our environment.
But if I only had one, it would be: ban everything made in China ?

Janiepops Thu 24-Sep-20 12:11:32

Fireworks! My dogs go bonkers thinking we are being attacked!

Dropping chewing gum in the street, looks repulsive, and these days a proper health threat.

Spitting, anywhere!

EllanVannin Thu 24-Sep-20 12:11:53

Alcohol. Facebook----both causers of trouble.
Abuse of mobile phones----creating narcissism ( selfies etc. )

And a list as long as your arm.

I belong in a convent I think !

travelsafar Thu 24-Sep-20 12:28:03

FannyCornforth I totally agree.

Alcohol. Facebook----both causers of trouble.

Blimey! That's two enjoyable bits of my life out the window then.

BlueSky Thu 24-Sep-20 12:42:53

I’m with you Merlot depends how you use them!

Graygirl Thu 24-Sep-20 12:45:34

Silent cars, don't get me wrong electric/highbred card are great but I think the dipped beans should come on with the Ignition or they should have some kind of running noise

Graygirl Thu 24-Sep-20 12:47:11

Sorry meant to say hybrid cars

MawB2 Thu 24-Sep-20 12:48:37

Fireworks, except for one off “official” municipal displays.
And thinking about that, Covid will presumably put a stop to those so we face the prospect of even more garden fireworks which seem to go on for weeks sad

MawB2 Thu 24-Sep-20 12:50:13

Graygirl

Sorry meant to say hybrid cars

Oh I don’t know Graygirl one likes a bit of breeding in one’s car grin - “Bring the Bentley round James, I need to go to Waitrose” grin

gillyknits Thu 24-Sep-20 12:50:29

Footballers spitting on the pitch. This might stop the youngsters copying them and spitting in the street. Vile habit.

Buttonjugs Thu 24-Sep-20 12:51:03

I would love to ban companies that ‘buy any ‘car, house etc. They are a complete rip-off and IMO should be regulated and forced to compensate those they have already ripped off.

Immiesnana Thu 24-Sep-20 12:54:38

Builders who play their radios at top volume when working on neighbouring properties! They should be made to use earphones if they want music.
Queue jumpers in any situation but especially when we're patiently waiting to enter a supermarket. My time is as important as theirs.

Buttonjugs Thu 24-Sep-20 12:55:28

@MerylStreep I sell a few things I import from China that are really good quality and environmentally friendly. Of course there are things that are of dubious quality but I find it’s the minority. Also, how would people cope without B&M and Aldi special buys ?

LadyBella Thu 24-Sep-20 12:58:09

Fireworks, porn, litter (impose very heavy fines), tattoos, drinking alcohol on trains and in the street and lots of other things that I probably can't list on here for fear of them not being PC. (I think free speech has gone from this country.)

Alegrias Thu 24-Sep-20 12:59:10

I know that this is probably meant to be light hearted and I may get told off for being po-faced, but really. Anything made in China? Most things American?

What's next? Folk with ginger hair?

And all plastic? I assume you are typing this on some sort of keyboard made from....plastic?

Sallywally1 Thu 24-Sep-20 13:01:55

Yes I go along with a plastics ban and also unnecessary packaging, especially those styrofoam bits. I also hate fireworks and would limit them to displays. What else, eating on public transport, not picnics on long journeys, but rather takeaways on buses, people who put their feet on seats on buses, large children being put in shopping trolleys (three year olds +) in the supermarket (I have to put my food in their!).

Gosh I sound grumpy!

Any chance we could ban Boris Johnson?

geekesse Thu 24-Sep-20 13:04:06

I have a suggestion. Instead of just calling to ban something, why not just refuse to use, enjoy or benefit from the things you’d like to ban? That way we might actually make a difference. Sure, it may mean we have to go without certain things we like or are used to, but isn’t that worth it to make the world a better place?

Beauregard Thu 24-Sep-20 13:20:01

Another vote for fireworks - from a horse owner who knows how much stress they cause.

Sky lanterns - a fire hazard.

Drones used as playthings. Great for emergency services and some professions though.

Jaxjacky Thu 24-Sep-20 13:23:31

merlotgran I’m with you Facebook and alcohol ? I like fireworks too and porn has been around forever, it’s the media that’s changed.

Luckygirl Thu 24-Sep-20 13:29:36

Cyclists riding in packs - one or two I can cope with, but sometimes there is a whole string of them - impossible to get by on our country roads here. And sitting behind them feels ill-mannered, as though you are hassling them.

Also cyclists who must know I have been behind them for the last ten minutes waiting to find a safe place to overtake, who fail to dip into a gate entry or other opportunity to make space for cars to pass. I am doing them the courtesy of keeping them safe; the least they can do is to try and facilitate me getting by. It is simply about good manners.

And I am a slow driver!

b1zzle Thu 24-Sep-20 13:37:58

Please could we ban those terrible noisy exhausts that the attention-seekers seem to enjoy these days in a look-at-me sort of way.

Newatthis Thu 24-Sep-20 13:45:12

Packaging that are impossible to open, even with a good pair of scissors. I don't have arthritis in my hands and constantly wonder how those that do, open things. The worse things to open are the molded plastic casing you get around toothbrushes, computer leads etc.

I'd ban the ridiculously high salaries paid to professional footballers. It's a GAME for heavens sake, kicking a ball around a field. No way do they do anything that justifies such excessive salaries. In fact I would go so far as to ban football altogether!

Facebook and Twitter and other socalled social media, which seem to be far from 'social' and simply cause argument and distress for so many people.

Car parking charges at hospitals.

Inflatable beach toys, they're so dangerous.

Plastic wrapping on fresh vegetables. They don't need it and should be sold loose.

All smoking products and recreational drugs.

I actually like fireworks, and organised professional displays are always preferable to home displays but many of them are overpriced especially if you have more than 2 children. So many families will always choose to have fireworks at home. But I'd ban the sale of them until a week before November and New Year and not at any other time of the year. I'd also ban the public sale of the large, noisy, expensive fireworks and restrict it to sparklers, catherine wheels and roman candles etc.

I'd also ban the display of Christmas stuff in shops until the 1st November. Who wants to see Christmas cards and wrapping paper in August in a heatwave.

I'd ban the use of mobile phones in restaurants and pubs. It's so annoying to have to listen to someone else's loud and usually boring conversation while trying to enjoy a pleasant meal with family or friends.

And I could go on and on......
