What I would ban? and what would you ban?

I love fireworks. Good ones are a source of joy to me. I know they are wasteful and damaging and can scare people and animals but I would be sad not to have them.

I do not understand why they can't be confined to bonfire night though.

Ordered a blind. It arrived in a cardboard tube, wrapped in bubble wrap, surrounded by yards of brown paper and finished off with a huge outer box.

Lodged a complaint, could they not have stuck a label on the tube?

I'm not usually in favour of banning things BUT I agree about fireworks, if they must be sold they should only be used on evening of 5th November and finish by 10.00 pm.

On a lighter note I would ban some ads. those advertising anti aging creams which use a model who is barely 20, a model being shown shaving her hairless legs - why not use someone who has not shaved her legs for several months?

That's a typical example of what I would like to see banned, MrsRochester. I started a campaign in 1980 and I can't honestly see that it's had any real effect, sadly.

I would ban the manufacture and import of all products that are made from non recyclable materials.
Any products too large to be recycled must be taken back by the manufacturer and they must break them down to be recycled.

All internet sites that host pornography , surely there must be a way, our youngsters are bombarded by readily available hard core porn, which surely must have an adverse effect on them.

Lots of other things , none of which ( including the ones above) will ever happen.

I’d ban all non-recyclable plastic and anything not recyclable. Improve recycling to include electronics.

Huge trawlers taking everything from the ocean in their path.

Personal use fireworks

Built in obsolescence. Everything could be repaired at least for 20 years.

More positively, encourage Pass it On websites if it cannot be sold on; invest in sustainability be it fishing, paper making from old rags, returnable bottles etc. etc.

Have public fireworks on special occasions

Insulate all housing not just for those who can afford it but for those who are not eligible for government schemes eg. double glazing.

Support in country manufacturing to reduce transportation

Give us a national railway service that works - back to goods trains

I would ban all types of things which can be smoked. I can't bear to be next to anyone who smokes; they smell disgusting- along with all illegal drugs.
I would ban anyone who has been cruel to any animal from ever going nearer than 100 yards to any animal. in the future.
I would ban anyone who litters from ever opening a packet of anything again in the street or any open places.

When was this? I travelled to work on British Rail trains, which were awful. Virgin trains are much more reliable and comfortable and the staff are pleasant.

I'm getting into this now.
I'd like a ban the ignoramuses that has infested the Lake District lately.
They've left it looking like a tip with rubbish, disposable BBQs, tents and human waste for others to clean up after them. Scorched earth where they've had fires with branches ripped off nearby trees.
The sooner they can return to Costa wherever for their holidays the better.

I wouldn’t ban anything that I can think of, maybe if pushed Id ban alcohol - if it were invented today it would be banned - excess causes so much damage to society and it’s a poison to the individual.
Love fireworks we always buy and set them off for Christmas, New Year, Nov 5th Etc. Etc. Our DG’s adore them and we don’t have “sensitive pets” ours all live in their kennels, coups etc; outside where we believe animals should be.

Definitely fireworks for individual use. Those balloons with candles in. Cycles being ridden on footpaths which is illegal anyway other than on designated cycle lanes.
Football being played in the street or on No Ball Games areas. Footballers spitting on pitches during matches. Yuck!

Oh dear - I love Fireworks , Halloween & Rugby- sorry Optimist! (but we do come out quietly & we are sober as we have to drive home.)
I never use the word 'hate' but I do dislike a lot those cyclists who ride round the lanes near here 3 or 4 abreast chatting away & refuse to get over so cars can get past. If they only knew how daft they look in their silly outfits & few of them know how to handle a bike either!

I adore fireworks and I'm sure when I was younger they wern't so noisy. I suspect manufacturers add more "bang" nowadays. Re parking on pavements, necessary in some places as houses were built before everyone had a car BUT councils should paint boxes so cars don't take up the whole pavement or park over dropped kerbs on corners for disabled/pushchairs

Excessive charging in hospital car parks.

Car drivers who park on pavements and as long as they are OK will see mums with pushchairs and toddlers, disabled and elderly folk walk round them in the road. It is banned where my daughter lives and you are fined if caught.
At the moment - panic buyers.

I would not ban anything - that is rather an exaggeration. But look at the list we already have here, fireworks, shirt wrappings, rugby etc etc.

Everyone wanting to cause major inconveniences and spoiling the fun of thousands of people just because something irritates them. Isn't it bad enough having governments of all persuasions, not to mention those people so woke they cannot ever sleep, trying to tie us down to one single way of life for all, where we do nothing in case we cause the most minor inconvenience to other people, without GN members adding to the list.

It makes me more libertarian by the post.

Again - fireworks, except in organised one off displays.

TerriBull they are not only illegal everywhere except private land with the owner's permission (except the rented govt bikes being trialled in certain cities, as GrannyGravy13 said) but when caught it's points on your driving licence and a £300 fine.

I would ban fireworks, cycling on pavements and hospital car parking charges. Pets have been killed by fireworks.

Hate fireworks- such a massive waste and so traumatising for some people and most animals.

PLASTIC- ban it all NOW. And Trophy Hunting- and make sure the Hunting with Dogs ban is enforced.
