Extravagant purchase

We bought a Dyson hand held and a Dyson Robot vacuum cleaner.
We haven’t been able to have a cleaner since March, due to my shielding and we are sick of doing the housework. So we spent silly money on vacuum cleaners ...

My treat to myself was a holiday in Canada. Cost a lot but was worth it for the lovely memories. I like this thread Roses.

Roses
I made my silk pillow cases. A lot cheaper ?
Do you find that you now don't have bed hair ( if you did ?)
My hair looks practically the same as I went to bed.

The thing is that none of those things are extravagance if they serve a purpose and bring you pleasure.

I'm a big believer in spending to bring pleasure. The saying about knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing is very true.

We have just completely redone our lounge - decoration, furniture, carpets and lighting. We spend a lot of time in there, and presumably will more as we age, so we want to make it as nice as we can.

Thanks Roses I do travel on my own as DH unable to make such a long trip because of health issues. I have toyed with the idea before, but as I’ve missed this year, next time I’ll spend some of the children’s inheritance! grin
Watermeadow of course you can, in fact you must! smile

Watermeadow, go for it!

Hate to say it Roses, I have 2 silk pillowcase I bought years ago and don't particularly like them. I like cotton.
My extravagance was buying a new iphone (I usually get reconditioned) but reckon what I've saved at the hairdresser has probably just about paid for it!

I bought a gorgeous cashmere wrap and matching fingerless gloves
It will come in handy when I have to huddle over my lonely gas fire - alternatively I can fling it over my shoulders and feel a million dollars!

I am trying to justify spending £200 on something which I’ve managed without for over a year. It’s a CD/radio, because I have nothing to play my very much loved classical CDs and no radio in the kitchen so I use my iPad there.
If I buy what I want then I can use it in the sitting room and put old radio in the kitchen. I have no TV and listen to the radio a lot.
Please tell me I should buy this expensive luxury for myself.

BLUESKY
I have travelled twice to Australia in business class and it was worth every penny as I could not have sat in an airline seat for all that Time plus I was travelling alone and it made me feel more looked after

I hope it's not too long before you can go

Bellanonna Sun 27-Sept-20 11:21:59

Quite right annsixty. We all deserve treats like that.

annsixty Sun 27-Sept-20 11:00:32

The last twice I visited my D, I travelled First Class on the train.
I was over 80 by then and considered it money well spent.

BlueSky Sun 27-Sept-20 10:50:30

Depends what we consider expensive. My extravagant purchases were a new iPhone when I could have got one second hand, two Stressless armchairs, short breaks abroad where we want the hotel we want, and why not? If we don’t treat ourselves now we’ll never do! My next, whenever that will be, is going to be going to Australia to see my family business class!

Roses Sun 27-Sept-20 10:40:38

They are expensive so I save my John Lewis vouchers up over the year and use them to offset the cost

FannyCornforth Sun 27-Sept-20 10:39:10

Morris & Co wallpaper! smile

Pantglas2 Sun 27-Sept-20 10:37:12

I’m tempted by them Roses, but the cost is currently putting me off! Will see if I can buy some silk at Abakhans next month and run up a couple myself to save a few bob!

Which leads me to my extravagance.....two Estee Lauder gift sets reduced at Boots and a ‘free’ gift set thrown in! £200 worth of goodies for £100!

We’ll always find a way to justify what we want, won’t we!

Roses Sun 27-Sept-20 10:31:20

Do you have something that you buy even though it expensive but you can justify it for whatever the reason
Mine is silk pillowcases which I started buying years ago when the menopause kicked in
They are so cool I couldn't go back to cotton ones now

What's yours?
