Who has a lovely speaking voice, and why?

I also think some people assume Brummies are thick because of the accent. I hope I'm not!!

I am from Haydock St Helens. My first boss thought I was 'common'. I am often mistaken for someone from Yorkshire. I saw a programme once with one of the impressionists I forget his name but they said the St Helen accent was the closest to a true old Lancashire accent. A lot of scouse creeping in now though as my husband has a lovely soft Liverpool accent

I met my DH again after 44 years. We met through emails to start with and then the telephone for 4 weeks before we actually me up. I fell in love with his gorgeous deep sexy voice quite quickly. He certainly didn't have that voice when I knew him in 1969!

I could listen to Alan Rickman, Matthew Macfadyen and Andrew Scott all day and night.

Women: It's probably Kiera Knightly, Lauren Bacall and Joanna Lumley.

Thanks for replying?. We nearly bought a wheaten but decided that they would be too hard work with their lovely coats to keep looking good. Have a cairn instead.

I was told I have the voice of Frances del a Tour of Rising Damp, an old tv programme, I really hope I don’t.

A light voice which is useless in my job a nursery nurse and controlling a lot of noisey three year olds!

If we're choosing gorgeous voices, I vote for Benedict Cumberbatch. His voice is deep, soft and sexy. He reads poetry so beautifully.

I think John nettles has a lovely voice he has been narrating some programmes of late.

Funny how we're all so different in what we find attractive/unattractive isn't it? I've always rather liked the deep rich voice of the BBC's continuity announcer Neil Nunes. He was once described as sounding as though he was speaking from deep within a ship's funnel! I think he has a lovely voice, so I was surprised to see that he was voted as having one if the most irritating voices on the radio. Along with Sarah Montagu, who definitely has a very irritating voice imo.

Reading through these, I think I must be the only person who absolutely LOATHES Joanna Lumley's speaking voice! It's so affected and makes me want to stick two fingers down my throat. As does the diction of Penelope Keith. I also cringe when I hear the latest 'old lady' voice of Felicity Kendall (whatever happened to Barbara Good?) and the strident yapping of Twiggy, Alex Jones and Stacey (of Gavin & Stacey).. Welsh people do not jump up and down..I love listening to Richard Burton, Anthony Hopkins and Ruth Jones. Oh and by the way, dont get me started on Elaine Page, Grrr!!

No, I don't think so lemon. From what I've read about him, he's British but grew up in Jamaica and then came back here to go to university. He's got a wonderfully deep voice!

I love Frances De la whatsit's voice.
She fascinates me.

My D went to live in Denmark. She joined a Danish language class. The rest of the class understood the Indian gentleman's English better than they understood her, using non colloquial and a non regional accent.

I love Jenny Murray's voice. It's like a soothing hot chocolate. Could listen to her reading the ingredients of a frozen pizza ?!

So sad that it was her last day on Woman's Hour today after 30+ years ?

For sheer gusto and joie de vivre, Martin Jarvis, reading anything.

i think joanna lumley ,judi dench,hugh bonneville and of course richard burton all are very famous partly because of their beautiful voices.
