Ours is the Loo, Our grandchildren call it the toilet, generally it’s can I use your toilet nannie, when I was growing up my grandparents called it the lavatory and it was down the garden, it was one of my earliest memories I was around 4

Loo. I don’t like the word lavatory either. Toilet whenI was a child.

The loo, don’t mind toilet, hate lavatory for same sort of reasons as Marydoll.

It always sounds dirty and smelly, and makes me think of Izal toilet paper.

Me, and kids, loo, husband, lavatory, my mum, lav’.

TheFrugalPiggy Mon 05-Oct-20 20:42:28

Usually the loo or sometimes The Little Girls Room.

Marydoll Mon 05-Oct-20 20:32:57

I have always hated the word lavatory. I think it's because, when I was growing up, we had smelly public toilets in our town, with a sign, Gent's lavatory. All sorts of unsavoury people hung about there, so it was eventually closed town.

I switch between loo and toilet.

'the closet', my father called it!

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 05-Oct-20 19:50:47

Loo.

paddyanne Mon 05-Oct-20 19:45:25

it was the bathroom when we were wee, there only was one in the house. Now its the loo, hate the word Lavatory reminds me of an old Nun in high school who was very posh and refused to answer if someone stuck their hand up and asked to be excused to use the loo or toilet..she would have let us wet our pants rather than allow us out without saying Lavatory

Namsnanny Mon 05-Oct-20 19:40:39

It used to be the lav when I was growing up. I tend to say lavatory, if I have to say anything.

Nanny27 Mon 05-Oct-20 19:33:37

It's the loo in our house. My mother always called it the toilet but I never liked it. GC's tend to say toilet but unlike you trendienannie they never ask to use it. Just go in then come out leaving the light on and the hand towel on the floor!

phoenix Mon 05-Oct-20 19:31:32

Damn! CATS, of course!

phoenix Mon 05-Oct-20 19:30:52

But to add, if I'm doing a bit of "light domestic" I will usually say that I'm going to clean the downstairs toilet. confused

TrendyNannie6 Mon 05-Oct-20 19:30:25

Always makes me laugh though when I hear the term, can I borrow your toilet, I want to say yes if you bring it straight back ?
