1000 words. Photos on GN.

They say a picture paints a thousand words and there have been some lovely photos on GN recently. I am a visual person and, especially at this time, pictures cheer me up. Autumn scenes, people's gardens, cake baking, craftwork, pets, clothes we fancy buying etc. Even stock images of Boris, royalty etc.
What is the general feeling? Are they superfluous or do they add another dimension? Are we "allowed" to just drop them into a non photographic thread?

Today I went for a paddle

What a cute little Robin in the birdbath Greyduster.
Are you in the UK Bluebelle? It is very chilly outside.
Seeing as my dog showed off his Christnas photo yesterday, today is the turn to show a painting of my cats sitting by the fireplace. The two black ones either side are brothers.

Yes U.K. ellianne North Sea and it was horrid this morning gale force winds pouring rain and ver cold by this afternoon sun was out and it was a lovely November day The water wasn’t cold it was really good though my feet felt new

Greyduster Sun 15-Nov-20 18:28:00

Wow! Respect, Bluebelle. I think I’d rather have old feet than stick them in the North Sea at this time of year (bad enough in the summer!)?
GQ I didn’t get balloons on my birthday - I feel cheated!

You’re a brave soul Bluebelle, my last paddle was in June. Thanks for the photos everyone, smiling looking at them. Didn’t think you’d want to see today’s torrential rain pouring over the gutters grin.

Did you paint the cat pic Elliane ? Am very impressed.?

MellowYellow Mon 16-Nov-20 07:29:52

My nephew's partner made this cake for his birthday recently. smile

Marydoll Mon 16-Nov-20 07:41:43

Its looks so realistic!!! ?

MellowYellow Mon 16-Nov-20 07:47:51

Yes, she even embossed the 'paper'!

Marydoll Mon 16-Nov-20 07:50:33

I am impressed. Many, many years ago, cake decorating was my hobby. However, it was more rosettes and scrolls. So dated!!

Ashcombe Mon 16-Nov-20 07:50:33

These two live with my DH in France and are very different characters, despite being siblings. On the left is Lola, still a skittish airhead despite being 15! Her brother is Cooper who is a very loving boy and likes to lie on my chest and look into my eyes when I speak to him. If I stop, his paw gently touches my mouth as if to say, “Please go on!”
Their names are connected with motor racing (although Cooper is the colour of marmalade!) as it's one of DH's passions and they live near Le Mans.

When I saw the photo Mellow I thought I wonder what’s that about, never thought it could be a cake. It’s brilliant.

Puzzler61 Mon 16-Nov-20 07:53:41

Ellianne you cats by the fire painting is wonderful - I would get the design printed on my Christmas cards. ?
MellowYellow what a fun (and very clever) cake. Is it embossed with the puppy - or the koala? ?

Puzzler61 Mon 16-Nov-20 07:56:37

Bluebelle you are brave! I watched Countryfile last night and Ellie Harrison was swimming down the middle of a British river with bare feet. It is a passion I couldn’t share as my feet will be in Icelandic wool slippers until Spring, but fair play to you ?

Puzzler61 Mon 16-Nov-20 07:58:11

Cooper and Lola are my passion Ashcombe. Thank you for sharing this beautiful pair with us. Love cats.

Puzzler61 Mon 16-Nov-20 08:01:14

My cake efforts were mainly for our DD’s birthdays Marydoll and so it would be a mermaid, Mickey Mouse, or a My Little Pony. Not perfect by far, but DD’s were always happy with them as they got to choose.

Ellianne Mon 16-Nov-20 09:50:24

Cooper and Lola match the furniture Ashcombe. They look good for 15 years old.
Love the loo roll 2020 cake. In years to come Mellowyellow your nephew will look back and laugh!
Yes, the cat painting was knocked up by a friend one evening as we sipped the wine on the fireplace. Puzzler you're psychic, yes we did use it as a Christmas card while we were living in that house.

Ellianne Mon 16-Nov-20 09:52:42

Another of our Christnas cards was this photo.

BlueBelle Mon 16-Nov-20 10:17:03

BlueBelle Mon 16-Nov-20 10:17:41

BlueBelle Mon 16-Nov-20 10:58:14

Sorry it’s cleared gremlins on the line
I m a Pisces and always feel ‘right’ when I m by the sea
I m lucky that I live within a whistle of the beach
Hope you like this Good morning to you

Ashcombe Mon 16-Nov-20 11:12:46

BlueBelle I have the same problem with photos. Bringing it to the attention of HQ elicited the response that it could be due to my slow broadband but it isn’t. It is disconcerting but the photos do appear about five minutes after the text of your post.

Marydoll Mon 16-Nov-20 11:24:34

I sometimes have the same problem with photos, Ashcombe. I just refresh and try again.
What I have noticed is that it only happens on my tablet, but not on my PC.

Only just caught up with this thread.
Here is a shot I took in the garden earlier in the year.
