Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

When you get to an age where your kids think you’re crackers. I can hear my kids saying this to me. I don’t care. ?

HootyMcOwlface Tue 20-Oct-20 15:37:52

I got mine from a joke (around the Boatymcboatface time) which made me laugh. I can’t remember the joke but the name stuck in my head! (I thought it a hoot ?). I’m pretty unimaginative thinking up clever names myself and it was all I could think of when I joined!

Shows a complete lack of imagination. I was 22 when I moved to Leeds. Will try to think of something more exotic,

I have been obsessed with seahorses since I discovered they existed and were not figments of a fertile imagination. Then I discovered sea dragons: - seahorses in party frocks!! Just right, except I hate parties....

Ellan Vanin I had often wondered if you were Manx and had intended to ask. The Isle of Man is such a beautiful place. Many years ago we had hoped to live there but sadly it didn't happen. We still like to visit as often as possible.

How interesting!
my name is real and is translated from Greek as "hospitable" (our names are usually translated from Greek like many). I am very happy to help others in real life

Mine is the name of a blind snake, a character in a book my eldest had when she was little. The snake lived with creatures called hairy eyefuls who were so busy trying to see everything beautiful that they saw nothing so the little snake showed them how to slow down and appreciate life. In the book the snakes name had a C in it..... i never was good at spelling

Coughdrop Tue 20-Oct-20 16:59:20

My Nan used to tell me I was a right 'coughdrop" and laugh. It used to make me feel very loved, which I was but I never knew really why she called me that. Just a comical and loving thing I suppose. My Grandad called me blossom.

maydonoz I worked and lived all around the Antalya region from Belek to Alanya and one summer in Kalkan. I've never been to Ankara but I adore Istanbul and would visit whenever I could. It's a wonderful country with fabulous food and hospitable people, I miss it a lot, especially when it's wet and cold here!!!
