Hi all
I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread.
My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley.
Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.

Mine is my favourite colour and lord is the title of an old poet who has the same first name as me.

Panda25 Tue 20-Oct-20 13:19:04

Mine was the nickname my first husband gave me when I was hugely pregnant with our 2nd child and I was very tired so had dark lines around my eyes!!! Not sure if it was romantic or not

Scribbles Tue 20-Oct-20 13:20:43

I'm a writer.

threexnanny Tue 20-Oct-20 13:27:44

Simply have three grandchildren

schnackie Tue 20-Oct-20 13:33:42

My real name is Candy (which I thought I would hate as I grew out of childhood, but it still suits me) and a little Dutch boy in a B&B where I was staying in Amsterdam forgot and called me Schnackie - he knew it was something sweet to eat!

Mine’s obvious. They are such a joy. Very premature and now very bright and ahead of their peers.

songstress60 Tue 20-Oct-20 13:37:37

My user name is because I used to be in a junior theatre as a child, and my mother was told I had a talent for singing, but sadly in those days it wasn't regarded as a real job.

missdeke Tue 20-Oct-20 13:53:10

Maydonoz I had to laugh at your post, I lived and worked in Turkey for 13 years and as a hater of parsley, all the local restaurants used to say to me 'maydanoz yok?' when I ordered a meal. My username comes from a bellboy in a hotel in Alanya who used to call me missdeke.

chelseababy Tue 20-Oct-20 14:01:32

Team I support.

lucid Tue 20-Oct-20 14:04:40

Because I’m generally not lucid grin

Milliemabel Tue 20-Oct-20 14:05:51

My two bichon frise that I absolutely adore ?

Nannyjulesrules Tue 20-Oct-20 14:06:07

My user name couldn't be more wrong, I'm not at all bossy. My OH is is the one who rules in our house, sadly. I must have been having a good day and feeling very assertive when I was trying to think of a name, it was the first thing that came into my head! I shall change it when I can think of something better.
I also have very thin legs,*Luckylegs*, especially from my knees downwards. Always embarrassed wearing school skirts and short socks. If I put on weight it never goes below my knees!
Love reading all these posts today, cheered me up loads!

Sheilasue Tue 20-Oct-20 14:06:33

Sheila is my name and Sue was my mother’s.

VeeScott Tue 20-Oct-20 14:09:01

Mine is the pen name I chose as a teenager when I thought I might be a writer. It is my middle name and the name of a young actor I had a crush on at the time. Never did get into the writing game, sadly.

Runrigg !!!

SynchroSwimmer Tue 20-Oct-20 14:33:53

We had a single 30 minute lesson of this at school aged 14, and chuffed that it’s stayed with me for 50 years.

Someone unknown yesterday walked past me in the gym corridor and then suddenly called me back - “excuse me, but is it you I see in the pool doing “those things”? (cartwheels)
So chuffed - it made my entire day.

I also have a bit of a reputation to maintain with solo demonstrations at various European hotels where it’s not unknown for people to get their cameras out....(looking like a sack of spuds in lycra) ?

Not boasting, just find it amusing...

Bluecat Tue 20-Oct-20 14:34:37

Mine is in memory of my dear cat, Belle, who was part Russian Blue. She was beautiful but very dim. Sadly, she was run over in our street and killed.

Llamedos13 Tue 20-Oct-20 14:37:49

Mine is from an expression my husband has been heard to say on occasion!

Nannasharky Tue 20-Oct-20 14:47:19

Because 3year old GC loved sharks and when he came to stay we always had a new stuffed shark toy for him or something shark related. He started calling me Nanna SharkygrinPlus I used to do all the moves with him to Babyshark. I still do but for my own amusement as he's now into dinosaurs... confused

Bijou Tue 20-Oct-20 14:50:34

I always wondered about user names, when I was three months old my mother took me to Jersey to visit French speaking aunts and they called me “petit bijou”. Little jewel.
After that I was called Bijou and when I first went to school could not understand why I was called by another name.

Dottynan Tue 20-Oct-20 15:01:05

Self explanatory

specki4eyes Tue 20-Oct-20 15:10:44

I was diagnosed with myopia at the tender age of 8. My mum got me those NHS pink round specs with bendy ear pieces. Kids in my class called me specki4eyes (nice kids huh?). I got contacts in my late teens and used those until the menopause. Then I discovered that I liked wearing fashionable Nana Mouskouri type frames and so went back to being specki4eyes.

Acciaccatura Tue 20-Oct-20 15:22:40

The definition of acciaccatura is a grace note in music played as quickly as possible before the main note. When I was a child, my music teacher called it a crushing note. I thought that would take care of the two sides of my personality ?

Braganza Tue 20-Oct-20 15:22:48

When I first signed up to GN I was volunteering around the corner from Braganza Street in S.E. London - just thought it was a fabulously exotic name!

Pinkrinse Tue 20-Oct-20 15:32:21

‘Cos I have pink highlights in my hair!
