Hi all I sometimes ponder over the meaning of posters' usernames and thought it might be an interesting topic for a thread. My own "maydonoz" is the Turkish word for parsley, to reflect my many years living in Turkey, previously and also enjoy cooking so use many herbs, including parsley. Some of you may wish to share your username meaning too.
Mine is a childhood nickname and where I come from ish!
You come from Leicester, ish? Lutterworth maybe? Kirby Muxloe perhaps? Do you know, I really thought that you were a great fan of: Revoyda Frierson, known as Ketty Lester. She's an American singer and actress known for her 1962 hit single "Love Letters." Kitty & Ketty are not that far removed.
I love history and words, and have a particular interest in the Anglo Saxon period. Ealdemodor is the nearest approximation of Grandmother in old English.
Mine is named after my little Jack Russell - who actually wasn’t called Mrs Woo at all - but over time, for some inexplicable reason, we used to call her “Mrs Woo from Peru, Madam ZaZa from Zanzibar”. She was actually from Shepherds Bush.
My name came about as I was looking out at the garden this summer, trying to think up a suitable name, when I spotted that the honeysuckle and roses were blooming. Hence honeyrose!
We bred a filly foal from our mare a few years ago and gave her a beautiful name. I always thought if we bred another horse I would love to call it Beauregard. Alas, it wasn't to be, so I decided it could be my username instead.
A literary reference: one of the central characters of my favourite Charles Dickens novel, Bleak House. I have no place in Lincolnshire nor any connection with (Sir) Leicester) but I may or may not have a dark secret.
Bleak House.....brings back memories of English A level... Evangeline Harcourt was one of my favourite parts I played when Am Dram was permitted... remember those days, long, long ago....
Annie is the second part of my christian name lengthened , my grandfather called me Annie Bach, little Annie, it stuck, ok when a child but when grown to 5’7” !
