Those hats with the big pom poms

I love them so much I actually have 3 of them. DH asked what I'd like for Christmas and I said I'd maybe like one in navy. He then tells me he actually doesn't like my big pom pom wooly hats and said they are made for people in their teens. What do you think?

My GS’s football team have a team knitted bobble hat and all the supporters wear them. This is my one and only concession to wearing anything with a bobble attached!

Never a cold weather hat fan until a trip to the Arctic Circle converted me. Now I have three pull on hats tucked away waiting for the weather to be cold enough, one is a Lara from Dr Zhivago lookalike hat, love it. No pom poms though. The less said about the state of my hair when the hats come off the better, they stay on until I get home and can make myself look less scary.

Just said to my daughter that my bobble hat needs to come out . Just got an old fashioned look !

Hats keep my head toastie on cold days out walking. Makes a real difference along with scarf and gloves.
I’ve got a few - favourite is a soft fleece one with flowers on the side. If I saw one I liked with bobble(s), I’d buy it!
Wear what makes you happy Ethel.
Do you like everything your DH wears? Probably not.

DanniRae Sat 24-Oct-20 09:10:51

My eldest daughter is 49 and she wears one - and looks really cute!
So Ethel my advice is wear what you want to wear. (I don't know what it says about me but if my Mr R said he didn't like it I would wear it all the more!!) grin

These are nice.

How do you keep them on in weather like we are getting in Scotland today?
I have knitted myself a headband from a pattern and wool from the Isle of Uist. I reckoned those shepherds would know about cold and wind if anyone does.

I also checked online Vogue and sure enough you can spend £300 on a pom pom hat with a genuine fox fur pom pom.

Knitted headbands, In the 60s I used to knit them and wear them when I went out with the Ramblers.

Funny how we bring up children to ignore those who make fun because of what you choose to wear. I think that the fact that you know what you like and wear it shows your personality. My ex mother in law was always moaning about what people should not wear because of age, size etc. But considering she had no friends, a spiteful nature and didn’t like anything out of the norm just showed her personality. I like the posts that say go ahead but add but I wouldn’t wear them! Is that a go ahead or a criticism. I really don’t think that comment was needed as it makes the recipient feel negative. Are we not doing what commercialism wants? Follow fashion but tell us what is right or wrong for you. It’s a hat with a Pom pom and I suppose some look good in woolly hats and some look like miserable old people. I bet you feel great in them and that makes you look great!

Not a nice comment about Missfoodlove , FH!

MissAdventure Sat 24-Oct-20 10:26:45

I'm not entirely sure why flying handbag was bought up in this thread.

That strikes me as not very nice.

dragonfly46 Sat 24-Oct-20 10:30:22

I rather think the comment from Missfoodlove was uncalled for also!

Whitewavemark2 Sat 24-Oct-20 10:32:56

Mary Berry had a fluffy Pom Pom hat on when she was in Scotland.

MissAdventure Sat 24-Oct-20 10:36:19

Well, if it's good enough for Mary Berry! smile

Marydoll Sat 24-Oct-20 10:42:54

It's still a personal comment about poster and how she treats others.
Complain about the post if you wish, but no need to say Miss FL is horrible to most posters.

EllanVannin Sat 24-Oct-20 10:43:44

I like the cloche type---a 1920's Peaky Blinder hat for me.

Calendargirl Sat 24-Oct-20 11:02:12

I thought FL was saying Missfoodlove was being horrible to most posters, but perhaps I have mis-read the comment.

Marydoll Sat 24-Oct-20 11:06:45

Exactly. Whether you approve of Miss FLs post or not. FH was out of order with her comment about MissFL

Purplepixie Sat 24-Oct-20 11:13:02

Go ahead and get more, I love them and didn't realise that they were only for the youngsters.

BBbevan Sat 24-Oct-20 11:22:19

Just make sure the Pom Pom is not fur and does not come from China. Could be cat !!!

EllanVannin Sat 24-Oct-20 11:53:46

Same as your Chinese takeaways BBbevan, you wouldn't know if you were getting cat----which is why I would never ever eat them. Just the thought would be enough !

Namsnanny Sat 24-Oct-20 11:55:33

Just remembering the great Billy Connolly's irreverent comments about hats.....grin
Belly laughs all round when he was at his best!
