After the outcry over so many of them being shut back in the Spring, along with awful tales of people relieving themselves in front gardens, I am pleased the authorities have seen sense this time.
That's a good idea but there are very few of them nowadays. Most toilets for public use are in shops. My two local supermarkets have closed their toilets since the first lockdown and there's nowhere else.
I'd rather not go anywhere than use a public toilet.
Mind you, I haven't seen one in years, apart from the ones in Whitby that you pay for and are very clean.
Well last time, I was terrified of going anywhere in case I was taken short!! Mind you I'm not planning on going anywhere now
Our nearest, three miles, town bus and railway station toilets are open apparently.
Up until this Thursday I would take my granddaughter to her ballet lessons in the evening. Sitting in the cold dark car park (not allowed inside) meant that after a while I was bursting for the loo. I would usually use a nearby hall, or the pub next door, but these are now closed, no public loos open, and last Wednesday I only just got her home in time!
I have got a portable urinal-thing with a female adapter which I kept in the car for my grandchildren if they were taken short. I think I will have to keep this in mind in the unlikely event that I ever leave the house, as I'd rather not use a public loo when we know that faeces carry the virus, let alone touching taps, doors, etc.
We live in a popular sea side town so I'm disappointed that public toilets will remain open as having them closed before, kept visitors away.
Many years ago, I was at a meeting of the NHS Retirement Fellowship. The subject of the lack of public loos was a hot subject as particularly pertinent to less youthful. Our organisation, among others was supporting Age U.K. making representation to the government to stop the closing of so many public toilets. Nothing, apparently came of this,
My own town has seen the closure of toilets leaving only one lot open. They are clean and well maintained but, a long walk from some of the shops.
There was a lot of talk at the time about being able to use cafe toilets as in France, with assistance for the extra cost involved in the extra cleaning and maintenance but, that does not seem to have happened either. Most cafes have notices saying the toilets are for the use of customers only.
I have been known to stride confidently into a hotel as if I am meeting someone in the lounge for example!
I'm with you Lucca, I will stride into a hotel or pub - or even McDonalds if i'm absolutely desperate.
Most of the staff simply aren't bothered but if challenged I would ask for a glass of water saying I felt unwell (i've never been challenged yet)!
Surely it is better for them to remain open, leaving us the option to use or not, than to seriously inconvenience many older people or families with children who cannot otherwise risk going out?
What is wrong with people saying they d rather not go out than use a public toilet is your bum so precious ?
Of course they should leave them open you can wash your hands after use can’t you ?
I ve often used MacDs ones nothing wrong with that
I was in a Russia just after their first macD opened...the ladies I was with said how excited they were not for the food but go in to use the toilet The public toilets in Russia in the 90 s when I was there ( I don’t know about now) had very severe women at the door taking your money and giving you one yes, one small square of toilet paper to take in with you
Talk about use it sparingly ?

Faeces contains more than just Covid viruses.
Just wash your hands after you have used the loo and, if there are doors, use a tissue to handle the door.
As for the SheWee, how useful are they if wearing trousers? That’s a genuine question. I have often wondered.
I am so surprised at people saying they would rather not go out than use a public toilet.
I don’t see the problem. Wash your hands thoroughly, and then if you wish, use hand sanitisers which I am sure we all have in our bags these days.
It’s such a shame to think of folk stuck at home as they are uncertain of the loo situation or are reluctant to use them.
I have also walked confidently into some quite smart hotels, particularly on holiday to use the loo and have never been challenged!
I’m another who thinks that public toilets should remain open. Yes the virus is in faeces but surely people wash their hands after using the toilet. Use a tissue to open and close doors and when flushing, wash hands, and finally use the hand sanitiser that you always carry in your bag. Well I do anyway.
I did have a problem when we got stuck on a French motorway. When we finally got off, we found this isolated hotel, and I dashed in and asked for the loo. I was told I couldn't use it until I showed them my passport!!! I think the look on my face said it all, and they gave in and directed me to it!
Of course public toilets should keep open, if you need to go you need to go, I wouldn’t hesitate to stride into any outlet if I needed to go,
I remember a coach trip to Germany where weirdly the attendant was male for the Ladies and female for the Gents! They gave everybody just a sheet of paper ?
Sensible.

Aaargh. I tend to be prepared with a small loo roll in my backpack. Sad I know.
Rutland Water loo this morning was open, nice and clean, plenty of soap and hot water, efficient hand dryers and much welcome after my walk.
I read this thread and was amazed. Most of our council loos in Argyll and Inverclyde have remained shut. This has put us off from going shopping it is no wonder that the local towns are struggling. They should definitely remain open otherwise the internet will be the place to shop. I wish Scotland would follow England's direction.

I have got a portable urinal-thing with a female adapter which I kep in the car. Mine is in a hold all along with a shee wee, a roll of toilet paper, some wet wipes and some sanitizer. I also have a pop up beach tent, a folding festival chair and an umbrella which has a loop handle so I can sit in the chair and chat to a friend and if a shower comes put up the brolly and am covered. I try to pick a parking place with bushes or trees but so far have not had to use either gadget. Lasst time before lock down, Sainsbury was open and so were their toilets, so that was a good chance to get some anchovies and some tonic!!
If I have to use the beach tent for privacy I am not sure I will be able to get it back in the bag.
