I've just watched the ad and it made me smile, the animation and the song are lovely

The sentiment behind it is about giving love which costs nothing and we all need a little love at the moment

Agree with you Rose

I posted a link on the thread I started earlier this morning

MawB2 Fri 13-Nov-20 09:03:58

As nobody seems to have spotted the thread I am repeating it here

Absolutely love ❤️ this years advert and the charities they are supporting.

I love all the differing animation styles, a surprise all the way through.

A great sentiment

Lovely ad., has brought tears to my eyes

BAH12 Fri 13-Nov-20 10:12:45

As the grandmother of the boy who did the JL ad with Monty the Penguin there’s only one JL ad for me!!

HannahLoisLuke Fri 13-Nov-20 10:13:16

It's lovely but I also love Aldi's Kevin the carrot and Amazon's The Show Must Go On.

Also have misgivings about JL making so many redundant whilst spending such a lot on an advert.

Craftycat Fri 13-Nov-20 10:23:52

I hadn't seen it before. It is lovely.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Nov-20 10:27:31

I love Kevin the carrot advert this year, I also really like the T K Max advert with the farmer and the goat!

grumppa Fri 13-Nov-20 10:46:52

If they don’t advertise there will be more redundancies.

Petalpop Fri 13-Nov-20 10:53:41

Much prefer Kevin the carrot. I find it hard to agree with the sentiment give a little love when they have laid off so many of their staff. Their shop in our town has shut so if I wanted go to their actual shop I would have to go to the next town along which has a high rate of Corona 19. Kevin for me every time but am pleased they have both included an endangered beautiful hedgehog in their adverts.

Good point, grumppa.

I’m a bit disappointed in the advert though. This one hasn’t brought a tear to my old eye, and just about anything can these days. smile

Maybe they’ve consciously avoided an out and out weepie this time.

Willow500 Fri 13-Nov-20 11:04:05

If you want to cry then watch the alternative JL film about the man and his dog lost on the snowy moors sad I couldn't get to the end of it but do know what happens.

To be honest the real JL ad did nothing for me and Kevin is just annoying - bah humbug grin

bigbird1 Fri 13-Nov-20 11:04:38

Seems to be saying that love not "stuff" is the best pressie. Completely agree but if everyone else does, it wont do much for their sales figures.

Lulubelle500 Fri 13-Nov-20 11:13:11

If you want a real ho ho ho laugh take a look at the Greenies snowman and dog ad.

Iam64 Fri 13-Nov-20 11:17:05

It's the right advert for this difficult year. Love is so important and to ask people to donate to Sure Start and FairShare is such a good idea
I also agree with grumppa (again twice in a week!) that JL needs to keep a profile to avoid going under. It's a good store and it would be so sad to lose it, not to mention awful for its many employees.

Ellianne Fri 13-Nov-20 11:25:39

Yes, it's poignant without being too slushy.

Another one that is really in the moment is the Macdonald's one, especially for parents/grandparents.

Iam I so agree. My SIL volunteers with sure start and has been working with them for some years. I think Fairshare is a good idea too.
I’m not sure we need a tear jerker this Christmas. Life has been tough enough. I thought it was a nice gentle add.

Ellianne Fri 13-Nov-20 11:31:25

Oops sorry Maw2 just seen your thread.
I think it was a case of the title wording because it will always be the "John Lewis" ad for me.
Waitrose ads need to stand on their own but I can see the connection, especially this year.
