I've just watched the ad and it made me smile, the animation and the song are lovely

The sentiment behind it is about giving love which costs nothing and we all need a little love at the moment

I love the Offaly pub Christmas adverts, genuinely amusing and it’s a real pub in Ireland.

I’m glad it’s not just me, pollyperkins

Second wind I don’t like the song either or the sentimental way it’s sung.

I think the Kevin the Carrot one is plagiarised from Stickman.

Gwyneth Sat 14-Nov-20 16:48:14

I like the Kevin the Carrot ? ad the best so far but haven’t seen them all yet.

Moonlight113 Sat 14-Nov-20 16:43:03

It's just fun isn't it? I think the carrot one brings people together. ?

I don't understand why the dog running away video seems to have been nominated as the John Lewis alternative one. It's just so naff. Why did the daft dog run away? Is he supposed to have gone to some happy place with Father Xmas? Is that what the Father Xmas hat the bloke finds means? Doesn't make me cry.

I'm not a Bah Humbug person but I really can't see the fascination with the Christmas Ads. They just seem to be fixated with tugging at heartstrings which I absolutely hate. Do they make people actually shop more in a particular store if they like the advert? I can understand M&S adverts that focus on their food -yum. But an advert about a carrot or someone being kind? When basically they just want you to buy their goods.confused

I have to say it’s Kevin the Carrot for me. Always makes me smile when I see it. Also reminds me of a friend who ordered veg online during the first lockdown for the first time but in her innocent ordered 1 carrot and 1 onion!

I look forward to the JL Christmas ad but must admit I found it a bit underwhelming.
Nice sentiment and very worthy charities though.

lemongrove Fri 13-Nov-20 19:04:34

Have just had a look at the JL Christmas advert.
I don’t think much of it to be honest, not a patch on some of the great JL ads over the years.
Off to look at the aldi one and any others I can find now..I rather like Kevin the Carrot too.?

Secondwind Fri 13-Nov-20 19:00:17

It looks as though I’m in the minority here, but I don’t like the song at all.

Calender37 Fri 13-Nov-20 15:45:34

I have a soft spot for Kevin the Carrot and his friends, along with the other similar Christmas ads. They bring a smile and a chuckle to me - but then perhaps I’ve never grown up. The animation and background music are amazing.

FlotheCrow Fri 13-Nov-20 14:49:58

I love the Aldi Christmas ads.

Joesoap Fri 13-Nov-20 13:13:08

What a heart warming advert from The Irish SuperValu, one of the best adverts this year.

Joesoap Fri 13-Nov-20 12:59:28

Just seen it,its lovely, the message very true this year.Well done John Lewis.

Georgesgran Fri 13-Nov-20 12:57:54

The Irish one should have had a Government Health Warning!
Mascara everywhere here - think I’ve a speck of dust in my eye!!

narrowboatnan Fri 13-Nov-20 12:51:22

The John Lewis advert is supporting @HomeStartUK this year.

Aepgirl Fri 13-Nov-20 11:35:31

Just lovely, and made me cry a little. However, I think it is the Waitrose ad, not JL (yes, I know they are the same company).

Ellianne Fri 13-Nov-20 11:31:51

Can we join the two threads please?

Ellianne Fri 13-Nov-20 11:31:25

Oops sorry Maw2 just seen your thread.
I think it was a case of the title wording because it will always be the "John Lewis" ad for me.
Waitrose ads need to stand on their own but I can see the connection, especially this year.

Iam I so agree. My SIL volunteers with sure start and has been working with them for some years. I think Fairshare is a good idea too.
I’m not sure we need a tear jerker this Christmas. Life has been tough enough. I thought it was a nice gentle add.

Yes, it's poignant without being too slushy.

Another one that is really in the moment is the Macdonald's one, especially for parents/grandparents.
