I have lived here for 1 year and 3 days and I’ve just cleaned the inside of my kitchen windows for the first time!
I know I’m a slattern but they are so hard to reach but I finally managed with the aid of a swiffer mop. I’m now on a window cleaning rampage, if you stand still near me I’ll give you a good rub down too.
Is there anything that you have suddenly found the urge to do?

Its how I do my housework. If I spot dust I dust otherwise I don't bother

Cleaned my cooker hood after a year! Followed that by cleaning my oven! I think I might buy a diary for next year to log these tasks because the net curtains are looking grey.

Oh don’t worry it must be the bluebells thing I don’t do any of those jobs till they REALLY REALLY REALLY need it

SueDonim Sun 15-Nov-20 14:16:06

You need to go and lie down, Bluebellwould! grin I had a window cleaning frenzy just before my daughters wedding. I damaged my shoulder so much in my exertions that I spent the next 18mths in agony and ended up needing steroid injections. ??

Oh dear Sue, that’s a timely reminder that housework is dangerous and should not be done too often. Hope you are all better now.

Only a small job but one which needed to be done. My kitchen bin needed to be cleaned and it was too tall to fit at the sink.

A flash of brain activity- I took it with me when I had my shower that evening- it, the shower stool and myself fitted with difficulty but I now have the cleanest sweetest smelling bin around. I do not want to use it and I must be careful where I put the carrier bags as liners.

Congratulations everyone. I cleaned one brass handle (with ketchup that handsome young man from the repair shop recommended it) then got bored so planned a quiz for the grandchildren instead

Lucca Sun 15-Nov-20 15:06:59

Charley girl. That is great lateral thinking, or thinking outside the box/bin?

Jane10 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:12:34

Oh gosh you clean freaks make me feel bad. I've never cleaned my windows. DH did once which was nice but we've only lived here for 9 years so there's no rush is there? We can still see out if the windows.

SueDonim Sun 15-Nov-20 15:14:18

Yes, all better now, thank you, Blubellwould! Housework should come with danger money. grin

I’ve just watched a Christmas movie on C5 and justified it by dusting parts of the the living room during the ad breaks. Now I’m having my reward: a cuppa with flapjack.

I was so devastated when I heard the result of the Brexit referendum that I went and washed all the windows. They've never been so clean since!

Calendargirl Sun 15-Nov-20 15:24:57

Who was it said “Better a house unkept than a life unlived”?

Me probably.

Charleygirl5 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:29:16

I am so pleased to see that none of us has been overdoing this cleaning lark.

One small item at a time such as one door handle is more than enough. You do not want to get repetitive strain injury, it is very painful- resting for weeks in between is essential.

mumofmadboys Sun 15-Nov-20 15:38:26

Charleygirl - the thought of you in your shower with your kitchen bin made me laugh!!

Lexisgranny Sun 15-Nov-20 15:39:07

I used to clean the bathroom with great vigour if something had annoyed me, but my dh bought a steamer which he loves using each week in the bathroom and kitchen, so I have to simmer instead.

Babs758 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:40:40

My best lockdown purchase has been a robot vacuum cleaner. I love it. Hubby wants to stick some eyes on it!

May I draw your attention to The Slatterns Charter:

It's not that you haven't made your bed, you have left it to air.

Leaving your windows uncleaned reduces the amount of sunlight getting in and fading your soft furnishings, meaning they don't need replacing so often, which saves money.

The layer that builds up inside your oven acts as insulation, and saves money on gas or electricity.

Callistemon Sun 15-Nov-20 15:43:35

Yes, I've had that (too much sanding down of paintwork so I've never done it since). Also a damaged shoulder so using a vacuum cleaner can start up the pain.
I did buy some Simoniz window cleaner a while ago and perhaps ought to try it some time.

Jane10 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:45:37

Slatterns Charter is very reassuring. No need to rush into things.

Bluebellwould Sun 15-Nov-20 15:49:17

What lovely funny and reassuring responses. I watch the American hoarders buried alive programmes so I am reassured I have a way to go yet ?

Charleygirl5 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:52:17

Callistemon money is probably a tad tight and with Christmas around the corner please be more mindful how you spend your money. It really is not necessary buying that cleaner this year is it?

Beechnut Sun 15-Nov-20 15:56:16

I had the tv tuned into a craft show one afternoon while on my iPad. I looked up from the iPad to the tv and thought “That’s a nice sparkly bag”. Only it wasn’t a sparkly bag was it. It was the sunshine catching the dust on the tv screen ???

AGAA4 Sun 15-Nov-20 15:58:20

This is a good thread and I feel better already. I seem to have a longer and longer list of 'should dos' that never seem to get done.
