I have lived here for 1 year and 3 days and I’ve just cleaned the inside of my kitchen windows for the first time!
I know I’m a slattern but they are so hard to reach but I finally managed with the aid of a swiffer mop. I’m now on a window cleaning rampage, if you stand still near me I’ll give you a good rub down too.
Is there anything that you have suddenly found the urge to do?

I still want to know what he posted

I have 2 upstairs windows in my house that are way, way up high and, to my knowledge, they have never been cleaned. I have lived here for 50 years. Oh the shame blush
I must say in my defence that they are far too high to ever look through!

Disturbing the dust is bad for the sinuses. Leave well alone to avoid a sneezing fit grin

NfkDumpling Sun 15-Nov-20 19:41:12

I cannot move the double beds enough to clean under the middles so I don't bother at all. I just catch the dust as it falls out of the sides.

I come from a family who don't believe in cleaning unless you can see the difference afterwards. I believe in following family tradition.

Squiffy

Dust is very useful for writing memos to yourself. Fluff is insulating. ??

But it could make you sneeze!
That's why we thought it was time to pull out the bed and clean the fluff.

We're still sneezing though.

I'm the opposite to my mother!
She loved cleaning and was an avid 'thrower-out' of stuff.

Charleygirl5 Sun 15-Nov-20 21:12:19

Callistemon it sounds as though your mother was related to mine.

When I was young my mother worked as a ward sister and in those days had one day off a month which was spent cleaning and in those days we did not have a washing machine. Sheets went to a laundry but everything else was hand washed.

Even when she was dying I made sure the kitchen floor was washed every evening before bed- it was immaculate but it kept her happy.

I lead a different life with every modern appliance known to man and she would be horrified.

Well, I am going to shame you all. I wipe my oven out every Monday. Honest! It is spotless. Yesterday I washed the kitchen down, tiles, cupboards, light fitting, the lot. Today I have done nothing.

Vickysponge Sun 15-Nov-20 21:33:34

Callistemon Sun 15-Nov-20 22:49:28

Charleygirl there was always a frenzy of cleaning before my mother came to stay, although she was never critical! I knew my standards would never match hers.

V3ra Sun 15-Nov-20 23:21:31

cornergran I use a feather duster with a long extending handle to sweep under our ottoman beds. We do have laminate flooring though, it might not work with carpet.

Littleannie the last time my kitchen cupboards were washed down was the night before the Environmental Health chap from the council came to carry out my inspection for childminding.
I decided he must think the world smells of bleach, much as the Queen thinks it smells of fresh paint! ?

Oh gosh you clean freaks make me feel bad. I've never cleaned my windows. DH did once which was nice but we've only lived here for 9 years so there's no rush is there? We can still see out if the windows.

Really, in 9 years? Never?? Well done! ?

icanhandthemback Mon 16-Nov-20 10:20:29

I cleaned the oven the other day, it nearly killed me. I had to take out all the shelves, turn it on to a special programme and then wait to sweep out the dust. I was so overwhelmed, I bought a liner to put in the bottom of the oven so I wouldn't have to do it again too often.

I need to go to lie down to recover just thinking about it!

Lclaytonuk555 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:25:37

No point in dusting as the Xmas decs will be out soon and they will cover some surfaces and distract the eye from seeing any dust.....

pen50 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:27:38

My 12 year old oven has developed a fault and I have decided to replace it so I have been saved from cleaning it (phew.) Going for a pyrolytic one this time...

Beloulou Mon 16-Nov-20 10:31:21

I have found my people!
Thanks, everyone,
If I ever get the urge to deep clean, I lie down till the urge goes away. Usually with a cuppa?

AuntieDote Mon 16-Nov-20 10:40:43

I have a very good relationship with dust. I don't disturb it and it doesn't distrub me !!

rowyn Mon 16-Nov-20 10:46:36

Oh, thank you. It's so great to know that I'm not the only slattern! As for cleaning windows, over (many) years I've tried every method there is and still cannot do them without leaving streaks, so I've given up!
And I tried the ketchup method on the front door lock inside; gave up after 30 seconds for fear of dripping ketchup on the carpet! Did it work, Lucca?
PS Yes, that man from the repair shop is absolutely gorgeous!!!

Feel free to follow this quote daily. ?

Well done! I am putting off cleaning the oven- TBH I haven't used it much except for baking cakes & biscuits as we seem not to feel hungry in the evening now. No- we are NOT eating all the cakes etc.
If I am cooking I tend to use the Wonder Pot my husband bought me a couple of years ago- it does everything with just a bowl to wash up.

Charleygirl5 Mon 16-Nov-20 10:53:14

rowyn we are not slatterns by any means- we are saving the planet by not buying the 50 million cleaning products on the market. Also during lockdown money can be a bit tight for some so this is another method of saving.

LauraNorder Mon 16-Nov-20 10:55:16

I opened the cupboard door and looked at the Pledge, does that count? Round of applause?

LauraNorder Mon 16-Nov-20 10:56:18

Ear worm ‘big bad John’, thanks for that.
