They never spend hours on the phone, listening to Enya sing "Sail Away" while they wait to speak to an advisor because their circumstances have changed.

Small children - they seem to disappear upstairs at about 3 months and reappear when it is time to go to school. Quite the opposite to any household I know with little ones in it.

MissAdventure Wed 18-Nov-20 15:50:25

They never spend a day surrounded by paperwork, having to phone all and sundry, and their internet never plays up.

They don’t seem to have many close relations. At weddings and funerals, the principal guests/mourners are always the neighbours.

Onthenaughtystep1 Wed 18-Nov-20 16:35:39

Oh dear, I was thinking about the gold label on the Imperial Leather. <I’ll get my coat>

In Corrie, the only GP at the Health Centre seems to be Doctor Gaddas, she is always available at the drop of a hat, kind, patient, knowledgeable.

She must be exhausted running the place virtually single handed.

And you can just pop over and be seen anytime.

I never fails to amaze me how many soap characters, who supposedly are totally broke, will still get tea, coffee, breakfast, sandwiches from the local cafe or pub, even it these places are virtually next door to their own homes.
But that is Soap for you - we have to have somewhere for them to meet up and chat.
Love it in Corrie when ambulances arrive within a few minutes of a telephone call for one, the local health centre, can accommodate anybody just popping in without any sort of appointment, and children and babies often seem to have no-one caring for them whilst their parents are out in the evening.

They never cut their toenails.

cornishpatsy Wed 18-Nov-20 17:20:22

The never have a straight forward happy wedding day or a birth without drama.

Billybob4491 Wed 18-Nov-20 18:07:29

Dont think I have ever seen anyone go into a bookies.

pensionpat Wed 18-Nov-20 18:12:13

I only watch Corrie. No-one seems to watch tv.

BlueBelle Wed 18-Nov-20 18:18:18

They always leave in a taxi

Jane10 Wed 18-Nov-20 18:25:00

Peter used to run the Bookies! It's become the florists now.

Lucca Wed 18-Nov-20 18:26:12

MissAdventure

They never cut their toenails.

Shame. That would make riveting viewing??

Hetty58 Wed 18-Nov-20 18:28:32

People either die or recover very quickly. There is no long term illness.

When they lie or do wrong, they are always found out (never get away with it) - we are just waiting for then to get their comeuppance!

Jane10 Wed 18-Nov-20 18:31:40

Wee Oliver's taking a very long time over his very serious and nasty condition. It's well written and Leanne is giving the acting 'big licks'!

Cherrytree59 Wed 18-Nov-20 18:39:45

Where are the extended family and friends???

Surely the mother, father, brother, aunts, uncles etc, would be at the wedding, christening, funeral.
Not just the mates from down the pub or colleagues from the factory or market stall.hmm

MissAdventure Wed 18-Nov-20 18:47:08

Their phones never cut out mid conversation.

Kandinsky Wed 18-Nov-20 18:59:36

They never mention Brexit grin

MissAdventure Wed 18-Nov-20 19:00:48

Oh yes!
That's a great one.

MamaCaz Wed 18-Nov-20 19:40:59

Someone in Corrie has just gone for a 'waz" grin

Kandinsky Wed 18-Nov-20 19:45:57

Yeah I saw that ?

Ohmother Wed 18-Nov-20 20:48:13

They never seem to have to charge their mobiles.

When something really important needs to be said there’s always an interruption and the stress continues.

Jane10 Wed 18-Nov-20 21:02:43

MamaCaz- I saw that too. Doubt if I'd have thought about it if I hadn't read this thread!

annodomini Wed 18-Nov-20 21:09:07

Do any of them claim benefits?

honeyrose Wed 18-Nov-20 21:12:07

Of all the soaps, I only ever watch Coronation Street. I have noticed quite a few of the residents now have very modern, attractive interiors to their houses (well the kitchen/living area - we rarely see the bedrooms) and there’s never ever any mention of plans to have refurbishments done. Some of the interiors look like something from House Beautiful magazine - but many of the characters seem to have no spare money for refurbs. An exception to the beautiful interiors is Fizz & Tyrone’s house - an explosion of poor taste, decor wise.
