Things you never see on soaps.

You never see anyone cook an evening meal or doing the dishes.

All the women always have make up on no matter what time of the day or night.

They never get up in the middle of the night to go to the loo and bounce off the door frame in the dark ?

They never have to take through piles of stuff to find their mobile when it rings.

No-one (in Eastenders at any rate) appears to have a washing machine - the launderette does a roaring trade.

They seem to pinch storylines from each other all the time. I watch Emmerdale and Corrie.

The hospitals all seem to have private rooms available and no one’s left on a trolly in the corridor for hours.

They never learn that it’s not a good idea to discuss some terrible secret while washing hands in the pub or cafe toilet. Because the person who’s going to be affected most by the revelation will always be in the cubicle having a silent wee and will have heard every word!

If someone offered a new job, they have to leave right away to be able to start tomorrow!! Yet there is still time for a farewell party.

These are three scenarios that are over used in so many dramas nowadays, in my opinion, soaps or otherwise. They are more things that you do see frequently, but don’t often happen in real life.

* Characters A and B have something to discuss that relates
to character C (usually in a very public place) Character 3
is standing near and overhears.

* Character A has something that must be divulged to
character B, but seconds before is accosted by Character C
who relates a situation involving other people that is
quite similar, but the outcome of the story causes
Character A to have a change of heart.

* Two characters are bursting to tell each other something,
They go through a “Let me go first” dialogue, and as a
result of what Character A says, Character B, says that
what he/she wanted to say, doesn’t matter.

* Character A has been building up to saying something
Important to Character B, they are interrupted and it
is not continued after the interruption.

* When admitting a visitor who really shouldn’t be in the
House, the householder admits them and then comes
out, furtively looking up and down the road.

I know I am nit-picking, but it’s all so predictable.

Not just soaps, but all films and tv,- they always find a parking space wherever they need one.

franbern only this week, we were talking about a family friend (early 30s) who had to live in the dining room for months because stairs were too difficult to manage, when ME was at its worst. Lockdown is putting pressure of the couple again as family can't come into the home from outside to support, as their jobs bring them into contact with lots of children. A very stressful nightmare.

I can remember being very, very annoyed several years ago when a story in EE had Dot's son (Nick?) being severely disabled and unable to use his legs at all. He went back to live with his mother in her terraced house, and then we saw him up the top of the house in his bed, with no explanation at all as to how he got there.
At the time my hubbie had severe MS and so many problems that caused in the home. I actually (for the first time in my life) wrote to the BBC complaining, pointing out that they had missed such a grand opportunity of highlighting the difficulties homes bring for disabled and their families. Never got a reply or an explanation as to how a small, frail woman got her tall, heavy son, up all those stairs and into bed.

Mind you, imagine a soap that showed all these things?

Of all the soaps, I only ever watch Coronation Street. I have noticed quite a few of the residents now have very modern, attractive interiors to their houses (well the kitchen/living area - we rarely see the bedrooms) and there’s never ever any mention of plans to have refurbishments done. Some of the interiors look like something from House Beautiful magazine - but many of the characters seem to have no spare money for refurbs. An exception to the beautiful interiors is Fizz & Tyrone’s house - an explosion of poor taste, decor wise.

Do any of them claim benefits?

Where are the extended family and friends???

Surely the mother, father, brother, aunts, uncles etc, would be at the wedding, christening, funeral.
Not just the mates from down the pub or colleagues from the factory or market stall.
