The more tenuous and obscure the better!
My aunty went out with the bloke who designed * both*
A) the Cadbury's Chocolate Orange packaging, and
B) Buzby, the British Telecom mascot

Beat that Gransnetterssmile

An old schoolfriend of dh was in advertising and dreamt up the ‘Naughty but nice’ ad for cream cakes - does anyone else remember that?

Erm, I think that I might know...
SR? confused

My brothers were at school with Gavin Esler, Mark Goodiet and Andy Irvine, my father danced with Princess Margaret at a summer ball and my parents had afternoon tea with HRH and Prince Philip. I also met DofE by accident! My friend’s father was one of the sailors who escorted the gun carriage carrying Winston Churchill’s coffin.

I was with my children at a motorway service station when we saw Cannon & Ball. My son (aged 5) ran over to them and Ball told him to F* off.

Fanny I had a thread recently where almost everyone didn’t read the OP. Interesting that so many want to air their claim to fame and ignore the tenuous part.

I know hmm
Never mind. These things have a life of their own.
But the proper, grand ones are nowhere near as funny as the tenuous ones.

When I was still teaching I went on a school trip to Legoland and saw Peter Kay with his family on a nearby table in the cafe.

YESSS!!!
This is definitely a return to form! grin
Similarly, Chris Tarrant called a class mate of mine a w***er.
Tarrant was on the money there.

(Not that Ball was, of course, backpedaling furiously blush)

I'm trying to think if a tenuous one now. Erm.. we had a drink in the pub where Oliver Reid died. I'm not sure if that's tenuous.

My daughter was an extra in a Stephen King movie which was filmed on her ward.
I have nursed a few famous people or their family but obviously cannot divulge names.
My dad worked as a gardener at Ascot racecourse. I have sat on the queen’s toilet and my little sister sat in the queen’s carriage

Here’s a tenuous one. Over 50 years ago on the way to Cornwall we stayed at a cottage at Fairy Cross, Devon and the owner had a motor bike belonging to Lawrence of Arabia.

Oh yes, we've been there too, Kate1949

David Dimleby and I once looked into each other's eyes.

But he was eating his lunch at the time and I thought I'd better not rush over and say 'ooh, you're David Dimbleby' (in case he didn't know.)

Callistemon Thu 19-Nov-20 18:48:59

Dimbleby!

Jane43 Thu 19-Nov-20 18:51:06

My late mother-in-law worked with Lenny Henry’s Mum. My Mum and Dad and I went to a New Year’s Eve party at the home of Godfrey Baseley who was the producer of The Archers. DH and I were in a lift in a Glasgow hotel with Jackie Stewart and his wife.

Is it a bit more tenuous if I say that my DH (I wasn't there) had a drink in a Pub where Oliver Reid was still alive? Very drunk but alive.

Here’s a tenuous connection...We stayed in a B and B in Sussex and noticed photos of ... a famous journalist /tv personality /interviewer with his own prog/still alive/ who no one likes, /went to the US /think he’s back here now... it’s on the tip of my tongue...help me out someone, please.
Anyway the photos were with tony Blair and with other well known faces. The owners said it was their son. Not Tony but the other one.
Later we had a walk round the garden and there he was, writing at a desk under the trees, waving at us cheerily. Wish I could remember his name, he really is famous.

I once used a friend's bathroom while it was occupied by two lovely Lurcher dogs belonging to John Le Carré. (They were drying after a nice bath.

There are some very, very posh ladies on here!

And here's me with my Chris Tarrant verbally abusing school kids boast!

kircubbin2000 Thu 19-Nov-20 19:11:17

I taught a mass murderer. He did all the little messages for me and sat at the front in class.

kircubbin2000 Thu 19-Nov-20 19:15:39

I sat at a table next to Jane Seymour and her family. My daughter pointed her out but I had never heard of her.

NotAGran55 Thu 19-Nov-20 19:23:00

I spent an hour in the same room as Peter Sutcliffe , sitting no more than 6 feet away .

Annapops Thu 19-Nov-20 19:27:09

I went to college in Newcastle upon Tyne in the 70's and was in the same year as Liam Neeson. Little did we know what the future was to be for him, definitely not a teacher.

NotAGran55 Thu 19-Nov-20 19:29:03

I held Chesney Hawkes when he was a new born baby . His family lived in our village and his granny brought him into the village shop where I was the Saturday girl .

Also touched John Lennon’s jeans in the same shop! His seamstress lived across the road from us .

My 3rd great aunt wrote 'Shakespeare in Love' - but I don't know if this is what the film was based on.

My 5th great uncle was an artist and friend of Keats.

That would have been interesting shock
I have other links too but not to be mentioned on here as they are supposed to be tenuous
