Hello All
I'm often awake in the small hours,
for a variety of reasons which I'm sure that many are familiar with.
So I'm starting this thread for anyone in the same position.
We can chat, share our 3am worries, whatever.
If you fancy popping on for whatever reason, here is the thread for all Night Owls moon
See you later x

Hello Molly I've been awake about an hour. Listening to Jim Davis on Radio 5. Whereabouts are you Molly? I'm in Derby. I've just looked out of the window as I was expecting snow, but no joy.

Rufus2 Sun 03-Jan-21 04:00:19

Mollygo I hear you calling! tchsmile Are you alright?
I'd read you a bedtime story, but can't stop long!

Just had lunch, hot steak and mushroom pie from "The Baker's Delight and the sunshine beckons. tchhmm
Maybe somebody else will wake up shortly!
Sweet dreams!

I hope that Suzan doesn't wander onto here. Her night attire doesn't appeal envy

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 04:35:00

Rufus are you purposefully ignoring me?

Mollygo Sun 03-Jan-21 04:47:19

Hi FC I’m in Lancashire and it’s not snowing here either. Thanks for the bedtime story offer Rufus2.
Usually listening to an audiobook works perfectly, but not tonight. I’d get up and make a drink, except it’s so perishingly cold.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 04:53:30

I love audio books. My echos and audible subscription were my best buys of last year.
What have you enjoyed recently?
I've just had to get up and stop the dog from going out and creating havoc.
I've said on a previous post that I've got a kettle in my bedroom now! Highly recommended!smilebrewmoon

Good morning everyone.
I have been awake for a couple of hours now but trying to doze, however I am fully awake now.
I have an old fashioned Teasmade but try not to put it on in the middle of the night, firstly because it is very noisy and secondly, I would have to get up and fill the kettle again and get fresh milk and wash the cup.
First world problem I know.
Fanny I was born, went to school and lived for my first 30 years not a million miles away from you in Heanor, do you know it?
We had snow yesterday and if it has frozen it will be treacherous out there.
It had turned to slush by late afternoon but I am too cozy to get out of bed and look.
Turning to my book now, sweet dreams to all who manage to get back to sleep.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:19:43

Hello Ann, yes I do know of Heanor, but can't place it, I'm sure that I've been there, I'll have to ask DH to jog my memory! He's a 'proper' born and bred Derby person. I think that you only really know a place when you've grown up there.
I'm from the Black Country originally.
What are you reading at the moment Ann?

Nannytopsy Sun 03-Jan-21 05:24:40

Morning! Woke up thinking about the fridge freezer which is defrosting, so I went down to check if it’s done yet ?. No it isn’t! The ice dispenser is jammed and there must still
be some ice in there.
Of course, I am wide awake now ?.
Some interesting threads on here tonight!
I hope you are all asleep again.

Nannytopsy Sun 03-Jan-21 05:25:56

Fanny Cornworth I was a Black Country girl too, from Bilston.

annsixty Sun 03-Jan-21 05:25:59

I’m reading The Essex Serpent as recommended by someone on Gransnet.
It is a mystery, set obviously in Essex late 19th C and interesting though a bit wordy in parts.
Can you believe a few minutes ago someone let a few fireworks off?
What do they have for brains?

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:30:17

Hello NannyTopsy
Defrosting freezers - what a job.
I've never thought of doing it overnight, I'll remember that for next time.
Yes, you do get some odd posts on here!

Nannytopsy Sun 03-Jan-21 05:32:01

Beer I expect Ann!

Nannytopsy Sun 03-Jan-21 05:33:04

We started defrosting yesterday morning but the ice maker was thoroughly iced up.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:34:53

I remember that The Essex Serpent got fantasy reviews when it came out. I also remember that it's got a gorgeous cover.
I haven't read a book properly for months. I've really got to pull my finger out.
I also realise that I need a really hefty project to get my teeth into. My life is quite empty and unfocused at the moment.
I miss the Black Country. I had an opportunity to move back a few years ago but didn't. I regret it really.

annsixty Sun 03-Jan-21 05:35:31

I expect Susan thinks we grans have unmarried S’s and GS’s we are keen to offload to “attractive” young females in the USA.
Think again sweetie.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:36:14

Fantastic not fantasy reviews.
I do wonder how autocorrect works sometimes. It seems nonsensical.

annsixty Sun 03-Jan-21 05:37:48

The cover of The Essex Serpent reminds me of a William Morris design.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:38:04

Suzan likes 'older men,' or so she says. The mind boggles.

FannyCornforth Sun 03-Jan-21 05:39:47

That must be why I remembered it! smile

annsixty Sun 03-Jan-21 05:40:43

I have just realised that in a little over 30 minutes Mick will be starting up the Good Morning thread and be ready to start his day, meanwhile some of us will be trying to get back to finishing our night.

Mollygo Sun 03-Jan-21 06:05:51

Definitely Audible-I started with Georgette Heyer and D E Stevenson, familiar books brought to life by the narrators. Then a few murders-not really comfortable reading at night. Currently I’m listening to . . . The Bridgerton books, but they didn’t work tonight. I’m currently making a cuppa and debating if it’s too easy to have toast as well.

Mollygo Sun 03-Jan-21 06:09:49

annsixty I’m reading Murder in the Snow by a favourite author, also mentioned on GN. I wonder if that’s what has kept me awake all night?

cathymum Sun 03-Jan-21 06:19:43

Good morning I've been awake most of the night, not an unusual thing for me, I always like to browse GN I have to say Suzans posts have had me in fits of giggles , I wonder if she could post something every night, it makes the insomnia much easier to deal with when you can laugh.

Nana3 Sun 03-Jan-21 08:06:40

Good morning night owls, I've been looking at on line sales for an hour or so, there's nothing I can live without. cupcake Also had tea and cake in bed tchgrin
